Okay this has been driving me crazy and I am hoping someone will recognize the story I am looking for. I believe it was multi-chaptered and was pretty angsty. Naruto confesses to Sakura and she rejects him so he decides to distance himself from her in hopes that it will help him get over her and they can remain friends. Sakura tries to act like nothing changes. I think at some point she is working extra hours to buy him something for his birthday and completely flakes on the date thus missing it. To make it up to him she buys him a really expensive bracelet that responds to his chakra and creates little spirals that remind her of his rasengan. I also remember her accidentally ruining his scarf somehow so Hinata knits him a new one.
