Honestly, If I were running things. Boruto would be canceled, declared "Not canon" (not that it ever was since Kishimotto doesn't even write it), Kshi's editor and all the other NaruHin/SasuSaku employees would be fired, and Kishimotto would be green lit to do with the franchise as he pleased.
At this point, Boruto is well into development that it would be pointless to cancel it unless the series itself is no longer profiting. Unfortunately, we have to wait until Boruto is done/completed to know what's next. For an example: do we have a third generation series where Naruto is a grampa and so so... or will the Naruverse final come to an end.
The downsides are that Kishi's is in his advancement age and the longer Boruto runs, the chances are very unlikely we will see a true intended conclusion from Kishi. Secondly, whoever has the final say rather if its SJ magazine or the manga house (forgot the name) has to give Kishi the green light after Boruto has been concluded.
If Kishi does have the green light, how is he going to present the story because I don't see him rebooting the majority of the manga given how old he is? At best we will get a couple chapters or an one-shot volume alternative. This could be the ideal "retirement". A full duration reboot is going to have to come down to Kishimoto getting an author co-op assistance for the long haul.
