I know this isn't technically an issue with anything, but I'm looking for advice. Right now I'm looking into the phone service providers since my contract is up and I don't know which to choose. So far I'm looking at AT&T and T-mobile. Verizon is a bit expensive for me since I'm on my dad's family plan.

I've seen people complain about AT&T's poor quality, customer service, dropped calls and reception... so I'm asking you guys based on your experience if the current AT&T is good. I used to have Cingular and it was awesome, but I'm not sure about the new AT&T...

I have T-Mobile, and I've had it for about 8 years or so. Honestly, I don't ever recall losing a call or service. Usually on trips I'm the only one with a connection, and the prices are great. Also, using My Faves you can just pick 5 people and talk and text with them for free. I only talk to 4 people mostly, so I have tons of leftover minutes each month.

So, I recommend getting T-Mobile. ;]

Why dont you get a pre-paid/pay as you go? I have a pay as you go Verizon and its only like 16 bucks total for a phone card. I guess its only for the people who dont talk on the phone all that much and only use it for really important calls. It's worked for me. I used to work at a place where i was on call most of the time and they called me if someone called in or if they needed me to cover someone's shift, so it worked pretty good i guess lol. But like i said pre-paid is a good way to go for someone who doesnt talk all that much. Find the cheapest phone, pick your plan and hopefully the phone card isnt that much either lol. Hopefully i helped (i'm useless at giving advice most of the time lol)

I've had AT&T/Cingular ever since I got a cellphone so...for about nine years now.

The only real complaint I could say is the customer service since AT&T is such a huge franchise that they aren't as dedicated as other companies who don't have as many people to deal with it. Though this is from my mother's perspective since I have a family plan so I think she maybe slightly exaggerating since she pays a lot of bills anyways.

AT&T provides great reception (especially if you have a phone with 3G). I can be in a lecture hall for class which is located in a basement and still have 2-3 bars to work with. I can also automatically sends texts as well. Free calling to anyone who also has AT&T. This is the biggest plus since "AT&T Mobility has approximately 77.0 million subscribers as of the fourth quarter 2008" [*]. Chances are you can talk to a lot of people without wasting your minutes since they have AT&T as well. Also the rollover option lets you use minutes that you didn't use in your previous months so nothing is 'wasted'. With the 3G network you can see/watch pictures/videos (as well as send) via text all in a matter of seconds which is a great improvement.

Now that AT&T has continued to expand its network chances of you having a problem with your cellphone are pretty low if you take good care of it. Also when I had my internship at Bank Of America during last summer, all the computers used AT&T broadband cards for internet.

So from someone who doesn't have to deal with billing due to having a family plan I'd say its a good experience. However, if you are going to have your own separate plan then I'd think you may be in for some poor customer service (I can't guarantee this since I've only known of one instance where this has occurred).

I'd recommend T-mobile. xD My mom uses it, and so do I, and so far, it's been wonderful. 8D

And I got free shipping on my phone. >.>! But, I only just recently got my cell, so.. xD; We used to use AT&T, but... I never liked it much. xD; I pay for myself, so the bills aren't that bad, depending on what plan you get. the individual 300 plan without myfaves is about.. 30 dollars. I think. <.<

Verizon is a little more expensive, yes, but they have excellent customer service, as well as cell service in general. I've been using them for about 6, maybe 7 years and haven't had a single issue to report.

Use T-Mobile. My mother and I have been using them for years and they have a great customer service and plans. Though, I'm pre-paid but I love that service because I get more minutes thanks to their Gold membership.

Honestly, it depends on your location. I lived for 10 years in the USA and I always had Alltell and had coverage almost everywhere. (Didn't really check the boondocks of Iowa or the Dakotas lol)

Only problem I had with Alltell was the lack of wireless plans and the fact that my monthly bill increased by 10 cents. It's not much but after you do the math... 120 months x 10 cents = $ 12. I was going to switch to AT&T simply because they had the best plan for what I needed (PDA/Smartphone). But I also know that T-mobile is very good and reliable.

Try to find out what the coverage is for AT&T and T-mobile in your area and then go by the wireless plans they offer. Make sure you only get what you really need or else you'll pay too much. Another suggestion I'd like to make is, make sure you get a phone service with sim card. I know T-mobile uses them but not entirely sure about AT&T. Sim cards are useful because if you ever switch a phone, you don't loose your contact list (as long as you save it on your sim card).

Thanks for all the advice guys! The main reason I asked was because T-mobile didn't give me good enough reception at some parts of my school while AT&T and Verizon got better coverage. After speaking to the phone dealer, the package that was most worth it came from T-mobile so my dad ended up sticking to T-mobile and we got a few new phones. Plus, for some reason about 75% of the people we know have T-mobile xD

i think AT&T is meant for people who just want to call, get a good family plan and not pay as much -- all at the same time with having crappy services (seriously my dad is such a cheapo. he switched off all the extra features. .... like pictures. TAT)

and that T-Mobile is moreso for people who pay individual plans and like all those snazzy things (like... pictures TAT)



but really i just want me an iphone DX
