So, I wanted to know how many fans of Code Geass we have here. Did you stop after Leouch's revolution? With who did you agree more? Lelouch or Suzaku? Is Lelouch dead or not?

Wait, there's an R3? Or is that manga-only? (I usually don't check out the manga unless I'm really into a series.)

 

I found myself more in agreement with Suzaku, but then I'm also an idealist type person. But I appreciated how the series portrayed both sides. I like stuff that's debatable like that and that makes you think.

eta: *does a search* Oh, I see. R3 is an OVA? I'll have to watch it. Is it considered to be canon?
 
This may be one area that I have a hard time clarifying myself on...and it's been months since I watched Code Geass.
I tend to side moreso with characters like Suzaku, the ideals he had, his intent to be as non-violent as possible, change the system from within. But I appreciated the focus on LeLouch as well, willing to sacrifice himself and get his hands dirty for the betterment of the world. I liked how the story showed their two ideologies clashing.
And in the end,

how Suzaku ended up taking on LeLouch's role as Zero. Kinda like that Batman quote, "You either die the hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain". I guess.

Not that I viewed LeLouch as a villain or that he was in the series itself, but in relative terms he was. But I guess it shows that in the end, idealism can't exist in it's purest form in humanity since in the end Suzaku had to get his hands dirty, too. For me, an idealist both by choice and by nature, this is thought-provoking.

Ah, I was looking for a Code Geass thread!

First of all, Code Geass is one of my favorite animes ever! My brother and I both marathoned this anime last summer- it was an incredible animelike experience we both never had before. I don't know about you guys, but when I first heard about the synopsis, I backed away from it first b/c I saw Code Geass being classified as a mecha anime- I'm not into the mecha genre at all. But I wanted to give it a try since I've heard such great things about it; I'm glad I did.

Favorite character: Lelouch Lamperouge of course. He was different from all the other heroes I've seen so far. He's smart, well-crafted with his words, a strategist, but also manipulative, physically weak, and extremely arrogant. Despite his thirsty drive for power and revenge, his love and protection for his sister keep him on the ground.

As for Suzaku... ugh. Before I saw the anime, I thought that he would become my favorite character b/c he had this heroic looking like aura surrounding him. Turns out, his intentions were too utopian to come true. I understand his motives and that he only wanted what was best for Japan, but he really pissed me and my brother of- a lot.

His death is one of the most saddest things I've ever seen in anime T_T

I've seen both movies from Akito so far... It's ok, I think it's boring here and there. But the third one looks very exciting!

I just saw someone on youtube bingewatching Code Geass R1. When he got to the end of it he flipped out and called it "the worst cliffhanger" he has ever seen.

What do you guys think of that infamous cliffhanger of R1?

Well, I don't remember a lot but I know that I felt like I had to watch the next episode.

Maybe it's b/c we didn't have to wait for Season 2, but even so, I thought from a writer's standpoint it was a good cliffhanger.

Most likely, the weekly watchers back then were raging b/c Suzaku and Lelouch were just beginning to shoot at each other when the scene switches to Nunnally quickly and then turns black.

But isn't that what a cliffhanger is for? To me, a bad cliffhanger is one where you you feel it absurdly forced or out of place . I mean, cliffhanger by themselves are a cliche mechanism, that's why it's difficult to make one. It needs to be really catching and an unexpected situation even if expected as a mechanism.

The cliffhanger in R1 was unexpected and nerve-wracking, but it left off at a good place in my opinion (too bad you don't remember, lol). We were left with so many questions and alternative routes. It practically screamed "Season 2, Season 2"!

Not too long. I did a Google search on the ending to see if I could get more of an explanation, and that's how I found out about R2.

I stopped watching after R2, haven't looked into R3 yet. Since I saw it back in 2009, Code Geass R2 still has one of the best endings I've ever seen.

Lelouch died for what he did; Suzaku will never be able to reveal his identity again; C.C. is... well, I suppose she will live for another 500 years alone :(

And then we have people like Obito and Sasuke in Naruto... ugh.

Btw, I was wondering: Do you guys think Suzaku revealed his Zero identity to Nunnally? Or does she already know?

I mean that Lelouch wanted his death, but it won't change the facts that it's dead by Suzaku's hands. Knowing that Lelouch wanted it won't take away her pain.

I've been wondering how Nunnally would react if she realizes that it was her and her brother's best friend that killed Lelouch. That certainly puts a strain into Nunnally's and Suzaku's relationship.

I was kind of confused in the end. When Lelouch fell down next to Nunnally, she touched her brother's hand and some images were flashing through her mind. What the hell happened in that moment?
