I haven't seen the movie yet but I heard it's way better than the book, which is a good thing because the book SUCKED. Like I don't even know how they're splitting it into two movies because nothing even happened in the third book. Pah. As for Peeta, he and I don't get along... He doesn't agree with me. I despise him more than I despise Hinata or Sasuke, though I despise SasuSaku and NaruHina more than I despise PeetaxKatniss. I'm excited to watch the movie though. I think J Law does an amazing job on Katniss. She actually makes Katniss LIKEABLE instead of a pathetic, selfish, whiny, idiotic, hateful b****. I HATE Katniss in the books but I love her in the movies because J Law makes her awesome.

See, I'm the complete opposite. I like Book Katniss because she's so flawed. J Law has too much swagger.

Peeta was a bumbling oaf who just wants really bad to helpful but just gets in the way and makes other people get hurt. He's lame and boring. Just... a one-dimensional character who is just extremely boring. He probably doesn't deserve how much I hate him, but most people love him so I don't feel too bad. I really dislike book Katniss because she hates everyone. There's even a line in book 3 where she says that she hates everyone. I hate how she doesn't care about anybody except for Gale, Peeta, and Prim, and she would just as quickly run away and live her miserable life alone and full of hate instead of trying to actively change the world with the power that she has and save all these people's lives. The thing that bothers me about that is that she really DOES care and hates to see people mistreated, except it doesn't matter to her unless they're right in front of her. That's what I like about Gale. He actually sees the big picture and cares about the cause because it'll save people. Peeta's annoying because literally the only thing he cares about is Katniss. The most selfless one is Gale because he cares about people he's never met!
I hate that Katniss is never instigating anything, instead either hiding in stupid closets and complaining about how she hates the world or she's just moodily going along with everything, whining and complaining the whole time and dragging her feet. I really just don't like her. Sure, your life sucks. Sure, you don't wanna be brave. Whatever. Don't be such a hater though. Characters can and should be flawed but she was just downright unpleasant to read about. I didn't even like the book because it was so miserable and dark and Katniss is just a pathetic character. Dean Winchester went to hell for what felt like 40 years, and he still smiles! Granted he's a miserable fellow, but at least he isn't miserable to watch! GET OVER YOURSELF.
Sorry. Ha. I just think that your protagonist, especially of a book like that, should be someone brave and inspiring who cares about people. That's why I like J Law Katniss better, because she cares and she isn't such a whiny brat. I haven't actually seen Mockingjay yet. I'm excited to see Finnick be more of a stud ;) But *SPOILER* I am NOT excited to see him randomly get his head ripped off by a bunch of random muttations. *SPOILER END* Like, that was ridiculous too. That made me livid. Finnick, Gale, and Haymitch are the best characters in my humble opinion. Oh yeah, and Cinna.
Sorry, this just turned into a rant. My apologies!

Honestly, I think your concerns are perfectly reasonable. And it's part of why Mockingjay is such a terrible, terrible book. The Katniss of Hunger Games is a sympathetic character bravely standing in for her sister. The Katniss of Catching Fire is sympathetic, too, a young girl caught up in forces beyond her control. I think the author tried to convey angst in book 3, but did a very terrible job of it.
And for what it's worth, I find the resolution of the love triangle to be extremely problematic.

Yeah, well, I think Peeta was improved in the movies because Josh Hutcherson is a cute kid, but even then I'm still not a huge fan. I DEFINITELY think that the movies greatly improved the books.
It's all my fault that NaruSaku didn't happen, guys. I always ship the wrong thing! And the one that I actually cared the MOST about! I was certain it would happen - CERTAIN. Waaahhh!! Imma cry, guys, Imma cry.

Uh, not sure about that. I mean yes Peeta is very focused on Katniss, but he cares about other people too. He painted dead Rue for the judges - that wasn't just for Katniss. He also offered part of his winnings to Rue's family. He helped take care of drunk Haymitch behind the scenes. There are plenty of examples of him doing things for other people, even while the book is in Katniss' pov. Peeta was always shown as a caring person, that's why Katniss was better with him than with Gale. Gale is not selfless, as his desire to fight is motivated by his own rage/anger. The same anger Katniss has. It's not just about other people for him, so I wouldn't call his actions selfless.
