Spoilers from the latest chapter..
This chapter seriously opened my eyes. Like (excuse me for cussing) but damn. Seriously.
I never could see the abusive undertones before because like many SasuSaku fans I really only saw the redemption aspect.
Sure I haven't shipped SasuSaku since part 1 (and yeah on other forums I will defend NaruSaku because SasuSaku arguments against it do rely on hypocrisy and double standards), but I've always been a fan of it and really, I thought the bad moments weren't THAT bad. I always thought anger at Sasuke's attitude towards Sakura was just exaggerated mainly because the lack of SasuSaku interaction in part 2 made it hard for me to idk see what was so wrong.
Even the murder attempts were just so extreme that they appeared to be situation specific (to be fair I apply that to confession as well. When will Sakura EVER have to use her feelings for Naruto like that again?). It was a low point for Sasuke, but not THE lowest you know? I couldn't imagine him trying to kill Sakura again.
But what just happened in this chapter? I don't know if you get this, but it affected me WAY more than anything Sasuke has done in the past.
Because it was just so damn realistic of abusive cases. I mean I physically cannot even get mad at Sakura and I definitely CANNOT get mad at Kishimoto for writing her reaction that way because have you seen this unfold in real life? Do you know how hard it would've been for Sakura to stand up for herself? This was shockingly realistic for me! In fact the way Naruto stood up for her I feel was the best way to handle it! Sakura will eventually have to come around, but I understand why Kishimoto is making it take a while for her too. Defending someone else is realistically a LOT easier than defending yourself especially in a relationship like Sakura's and Sasuke's.
Someone pointed out that even Sakura's body language communicated the dark understones and I definitely agree. So so so so damn much. This was just all around painful to read.
I honestly don't think ANY moment has made me feel bad as what happened in this chapter.
And what's worse is seeing other SasuSaku fans treat the moment like it was nothing.
'Sasuke's rude to everyone' - HOW THE HELL IS THAT A GOOD THING kitten? And I looked through the 678 thread and I agree SO much ramenanmistu. Sasuke was never pointlessly rude. When he first called Sakura useless it was back in part 1 when she wanted to go on a date with him instead of train and even then it didn't come across as rude as it did now. And how can you sit there and ACT like Sakura has special meaning to Sasuke EXCEPT in cases like this?!
'I think what Sasuke did to Kakashi was ruder than what he did to Sakura' - Shut the hell up. Kakashi deserved that no more than Sakura did but DO NOT kittening trivialize his attitude towards her just so your pairing will not look as bad. Especially when you say (or agree with the people saying) the above.
'Sasuke's actually just worried/butthurt that Sakura was injured last chapter and just wants to protect her'- I don't think they know what butthurt means. But I also don't think anyone expresses worry/concern like that not even Sasuke.
'Sasuke still cares because he protected her with Susanoo'- The best you can hope for is Sasuke finding use in Sakura's healing abilities because he clearly doesn't care nor respect her in any other way. Maybe in a future chapter when Naruto beats his ass down he'll think, 'All this time I still cared for my teammates' but my GOD if you honestly think Sasuke is aware of his 'care' then 'delusional' is not NEARLY a strong enough word to call you.
'Sakura needs to punt Sasuke in the face'- 'So that the light will immediately appear in Sasuke's eyes and he'll realize that this woman was strong all along and she's perfect for him'. I think EVERYONE agrees that Sakura needs to hurt Sasuke (badly) but the reasoning differs and some people's reasoning just makes me shake my head. A woman cannot just beat a man up and expect him to fall in love with her if they had the history Sasuke and Sakura have had. This does even apply gender reversed! Do you think that Sakura is falling even MORE in love with Sasuke because she sees how strong he is (of course they do)? Sakura isn't even falling in love with Naruto for his strength! This isn't part 1 where Sasuke was seen as SOOOOO cool for being the best in the class! kittening hell people!
I cannot even believe what some of the SS fandom is saying. And the few rational ones who are calling Sasuke out on his kitten? People are trying to convince them why it's not so bad (adding the disclaimer of course that 'I don't agree with what he did THOOOOO!!!!').
Fanon SasuSaku>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Canon SasuSaku.
Give me a fanfic where Sasuke has his part 1 characterization just mature and twisted a little so that he'd accept a romance with Sakura? Yes please.
Have canon Sasuke sit there and think 'I'm doing this for your own good Sakura.' HELL TO THE NO!
...
Sorry for stating what was probably obvious to all of you. Just a disillusioned SasuSaku fan expressing her feelings before she has to go to class.
Btw, NaruHina still stinks. But the only argument that really bothers me is some believe this chapter is proof that Naruto was reacting to Hinata last chapter because Sasuke had to tell him that everyone was in the genjutsu.
I still find that false because 1) Naruto didn't give Hinata any specific consideration. And B) it's much more likely that in the last chapter, Naruto was just realizing/remembering that while he and his teammates were still safe in Susanno, there were a bunch of other people out there who weren't and he wanted to see what was going on (as evident by him asking what is happening out there). And I still think Hinata's thoughts were meant to symbolize the alliance as a whole asking Naruto to help save them.
Or hell maybe she was already asleep and seeing her dream Naruto-kun walking towards her with roses. I really don't care about that pairing.
The only sweet moments that made me feel better were:
Naruto's face when Sasuke insulted Sakura and the way he defended her by pointing out her extreme use to the team (I don't think he was saying that Sasuke was better than him overall, just better at strategics and analysis...He still sounded kinda bitter when Sasuke said they were surrounded and Naruto replied with a rude sounding "I know.").
And Gaara's dream. That pulled on my heartstrings in a completely different way and I can't help but feel Kishimoto did that on purpose because the severe mood whiplash was seriously welcomed. For me at least.
I'll probably calm down in a couple of hours. Thanks for reading my rant.
