Ok, I know that this topic may have been discussed to death, but I would like to throw out some opinions real quick.

I've recently noticed more and more of Sai and his involvement as a part of team 7. I've noticed some of the things that Sasuke has said, and kinda feel like everything is starting to make sense. We all are wandering whether Sasuke will truly be redeemed in the end or not, though it seems like he already has been. I'm sure everyone has noticed the little parts where Sai and Sakura show that they don't trust Sasuke, or where Naruto told Sasuke to stop burning the Juubi so he could save the bijuu, but was disregarded. Its obvious Sasuke is still very much so screwed up in the head, I dare say more than ever. If anyone actually believes he is normal now, or a good guy, don't fool yourself.

The only reason Sasuke saved Naruto from Obito was because he wants to kill Naruto himself. He said it " I will delete the past". Sasuke at this point is more than likely going to end up betraying Naruto after the Obito and Madara fight.

Back to my topic's point: I believe that Sai's character was created as a replacement for Sasuke. To Naruto and Sakura, Sai has been the true friend, his whole character was developed because of the love he has felt for his comrades. A huge part of the story was to redeem Sasuke and bring him back into the fold, however I don't believe he can be redeemed. I believe Sasuke could be if he stopped, but its just not in his nature. I think he will die in his fight with Naruto at the end of the manga. Sai was made to fill the gap. He is the true friend that would never betray Naruto and Sakura. The friend that would sacrifice everything for them. He is also the person who understands them more than almost anyone else in the manga.

In the end things may turn out different, but as of now, I really think this is how its suppose to be. Not to mention, Sai is the of the best things that has happened to the NS fandom.

I always saw Sai as the representation of the reader. Notice how he asks the questions we want to ask the characters especially when it comes to the love affair and Sasuke's character. It would make sense and since he is an emotional blank slate, it might be the very guy who represents us. He is like Winston from Ghostbusters who wasn't stupid and could understand the other guys, but while the others made it sound like a complicated tech babble, Winston kept things simple and easy to understand.

"That's a big twinky."

Sai's role I don't think is meant to take Sasuke's place, but he might be. I just think he is more of the character to ask the questions other characters are afraid to ask. He is sort of a realist look. A guy who explains the jist of it and asks the other characters the tough questions.

It was he who asked Naruto if he still loves Sakura. It was he who pushed Sakura and Naruto together. It was he who questioned whether or not Sakura trusted Sasuke. He also asked many different questions to establish how everything is for example like him questioning the suffixes and saying that not using them means you are really close to someone. Thus establishing NS even more. I really think this has a huge meaning behind it cause why would Kishi have Sai do this if not for nothing?

That's what I think anyway.

I do agree but for some incribly reason i only remember those three questions.

I also belive that Sai is like Kishi on the story, he even says "this is the old team 7" he says stuff that foreshadow things later on the manga, when he talked about Sakura and explained her confession.

Well said.

Sai is the guy who questions on the moment and see if it's good or bad thing. Like he learns how a fake smile could lead you being deceived, or how one can hide his/her feelings from another, or whatever. When Sai got into action, he questioned if it's ok to be with Sasuke, who was a member of Team 7 and after entering, he doesn't feel right, which is normal because he's pretty much telling us that having him doesn't suit well in the moment. It's like if Naruto's old friend, who he never saw before, shows up and Sai gets a bad feeling, it's not a good thing because people should feel comfortable if that person's friend got the ok from him. You noticed how many media always have one person saying, "I don't trust him/her" and it turns out they are right most if not all the time. Well, this is no different. Sai didn't like the feeling so he was hoping something good from Sakura, but she's guilty of feeling the same, so Sai is pretty much right about this.

The reason for Sai  well belive it or not i think hes an awesome character but back to topic Sai knows he a replacement for sasuke in the team but i think kishi put Sai in the manga to put more drama in the shippuden series like when he told sakura naruto loved her and her realizing how much she hurt naruto with the promise of a life time and also to uncover more about Sakuras feelings towards Naruto, maybe he will find out more about the bond between Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura and why Naruto wants to bring back Sasuke so much even if he dies          wellll that's my opinion
