Dorkly have posted a survey to find out what most frustrates you in gaming!

The Most Frustrating Situations in Games

It takes a while, but the results can be interesting.

Here's My Top 5 --Click here to view--

  1. Rented game is too scratched to play.
  2. Having a game's plot twist spoiled.
  3. Having to backtrack for hours because you missed an item or key somewhere.
  4. Having to restart an entire mission because some stupid NPC caught a stray bullet.
  5. Running out of inventory slots.

So, what really irks you off in games? laugh.gif

That One Boss types of...er bosses.

My most recent experience with that was first time fighting Barthandelus from FFXIII. Though I've since grown to admire Super-robot-Pope's troll-ish tendencies.

Wait, no, not Barthandelus..., one of the bonus bosses in Birth By Sleep (the one encountered in the final World after beating the game) is a pain in the unmentionables.....

1. Having to deal with terrible voice acting in an otherwise great game
2. Watching someone struggle with a puzzle you've beaten
3. Losing because of a broken controller
4. Having a game's plot twist spoiled
5. Handheld dying before you save the game

1. Ugh, I've had to deal with this too many times. I'm usually not too picky, since I've seen enough anime dubs that I'm used to awkward voice-overs, but sometimes it's just unforgivable. I remember playing MegaMan X: Command Mission a couple years back, and just bursting out laughing at a couple 'dramatic' scenes. "You can't beat me...I'M AFRAID!" facepalm.png
2. This happens a lot when I watch a friend or sibling play Metroid or Zelda games. I'm a puzzle-maniac, so it's hard not to just blurt out the solution sometimes.
3. I really have to stop buying Mad Catz controllers. Seriously, what a crumby deal. For only $10 less you can get a controller that only lets you move in one direction! argh1.png
4. I have a bad habit of reading fan wikis and going on game blogs while I'm playing a game. Considering how long it takes me to complete games, this always seems to be a problem for me.
5. Not usually a big problem, buuut....I play handheld games so often I've run into the problem more than enough times. Usually I just switch to a game with an auto-save feature, but I'm not always so lucky. For example, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn has some unreasonably long dialogue scenes, so I pretty much already know I'm screwed if a cut scene starts while the light's red. arg.gif

1. Thinking you were great at a game then getting destroyed online
2. Being over-encumbered
3. Unskippable cutscenes
4.A glitch prevents you from progressing
5. Dying when you haven't saved

There is also an 6th one that is not there but I would like to mention:

6. Going throught an flawless playthrough and winning every fight and then getting killed because of an lame mistep. Ughh...

1. Dying when you haven't saved - absolute bane of my existence shamefulcry0js.gif
2. Having a game's plot twist spoiled - most of the time, it's the reason I'm playing the game! I flee at any sign of spoilers but it still happens sometimes
3. Getting killed while doing a move you didn't mean to do - what can I say... I'm clumsy
4. Beating a game and getting a lame ending - disappointment galore sad.gif
5. Having to deal with terrible voice acting in an otherwise great game - I come to revere good games and I kind of get 'protective' of it, glaring at anything that threatens its awesomeness

1. Accidentally hitting "YES" when an NPC asks you if you need them to repeat entire explanation
Dodgy controls or way-too-fast reaction results in hearing an explanation again. Nothing’s worse than having to sit through minutes of hearing someone’s voice or reading through text that explains crap that you either have already understood or you’re not going to end up doing anyway.
2. Escort missions
Absolutely hate these. They tell you this, they tell you that, challenge accepted, wrong route or NPC gets harmed in some way, mission failed, have to start again. The worst part is if you’re out of ammo of some sort and you have to make use with what you still have, if you even have anything. Or if there’s a bunch of enemies that can’t be seen until they harm or spot the NPC you’re meant to be escorting. Or you're about to finish until the latter happens. It doesn't matter what happens really, I just hate escort missions.
3. Almost done sneaking through a level then getting spotted by everyone at the end
Having to begin a mission/level again simply because you get caught before you finish said mission/level really annoys me a lot. Especially if you’re actually starting it right from the very beginning. Checkpoints, fine by me, but from the very beginning? PISS.
4. Getting Blue-Shelled in Mario Kart
The joy of being in first place suddenly gets ruined when you know you’re about to have your ass handed to you by some flying blue shell. Worst case scenario is when you’re approaching the finish line on your last lap and that stupid, stupid Spiny Shell decides to troll you and ruin your chances in coming first.
5. Watching someone struggle with a puzzle you’ve beaten
I suppose I could sometimes be harsh with this one. I kind of let it go when my sister is doing a hard puzzle. It may have also been hard for me, and with those kind of puzzles I tend to forget what to do sometimes. But with easy-ass puzzles that literally throw the hints in your face and are practically common sense... oh my god don't even get me started on that.

1. Having a game hold your hand all the way through - I mean I do appreciate having the game help me through certain situations, but to have it do most of the stuff for you is quite annoying.
2. Bad voice acting - I can't stress enough of how much I hate this. I mean the game itself is amazing, but to have it ruined by crappy voice acting is a bad no no for me.
3. Clunky controls - This is another one that pisses me off a lot, and usually the game I'm playing has a lot of potential, but it's ruined by bad controls. That usually warrants for me to get rid of it.
4. Not saving before dying - I will admit I'm one of those people that forget to save during my game because I'm too involved, but when the game doesn't remind me to save or have an auto save, it gets annoying having to reload or play the last hour of a game you already completed.
5. Games with tacked on mutliplayer - There's usually a lot of fantastic games out there that don't need a multiplayer component, but when a company adds on multiplayer it feels so tacked on, and not part of the game. Developers, just do us a favor and keep the game single player.

Having to restart entire games because you get trapped.

Final Fantasy Tactics comes to mind. It has several points where you save between multiple story battles. The very first time I played, I was strong enough to win the first first fight at Riovannes Castle, but too low level and had the wrong equipment to beat Wiegraf in the one on one. Havin saved mid battle, I could not level grind or visit a store.

Had to start from the beginning of the game.

It's definitely number 3 for me, more than anything else. I remember playing Tomb Raider and I had to walk all the way back to the previous level because I missed a key or some artifact. But it's really messed up if you can't return at all. arg.gif

1. Having a game's plot twist spoiled
This has happened to me WAY too many times. It just ruins what could have been ;__; Unfortunately, many Silent Hills have been spoiled for me because I just can't keep myself away from that damn wiki.

2.Finding out your PC can't run a game you just bought
This is the absolute worst. What a waste of excitement and money.

3. Backseat gaming
HATE THIS. When my siblings want to take a gander at some of my all time favorite games and I just have to sit there and clench my fists as they stumble about, not knowing what to do. I just feel like yelling "THE DOOR IS RIGHT THERE" but then I get shushed.

4.Rented game is too scratched to play
Yet another waste of time. This gets me so down.

5. Family walks in during embarrassing cutscene
Uhhh this one happens quite a bit. And it never gets any easier explaining just why that scene was necessary to the game. Just my luck, you know?

2.Running out of inventory slots: Minecraft thats all im saying.....

3.Family walks in during embarrassing cutscene: That awkward moment when your 10 year old little sister walks in during a kissing scene in a game and ask's me whats going on.

4.Encountering a shiny Pokemon but failing to catch it: Need I say anything....

5.Screwing yourself over by saving your game at a bad time: Did this in Final Fantasy all the time.

4. Losing because of a broken controller

3. Dying when you haven't saved

Try plugging in the charger while you play, and then saving when you can. Works for me.
