Fanfiction.net acting up...again

Right here
And it's just comment after comment about people having this problem. The thing that's *really* irking me about this whole issue (besides the fact that it's been days since it started and has yet to be fixed) is that the admins/moderators/support people of FFnet haven't even acknowledged that there is a problem with the site. At least post a message on the front page that 'yes they know there is a problem, they have received the MANY 'support emails', and that yes they are working on trying to fix the problem'. But they haven't said a single word about the problem, so we writers are left to try to work around the problem ourselves, until the FFnet admins decide to get around to a permanent solution. The work-around solution is to replace the word 'property'
http://login.fanfict...ory/story_edit_property.php?storyid=
with the word 'content'
http://login.fanfict...ory/story_edit_content.php?storyid=
and that will allow you to finally access your story.
But it apparently doesn't work for everyone, and it still doesn't solve the problem of trying to add a new story.
So, is anyone else here experiencing this aggravating FFnet problem?

It is unforunate that it is the only thing around that has such a comprehensive scope...attracted the largest crowd. And it's a testament to the writers and readers that they have to really really want to be on the site to put up with the crap. But, as with all things, someone will build a new site, more comprehensive, better design and ease-of-use, and ff.net will be relegated to the internet way-back machine.... Not being mean, it's just that there's nothing better around. Myspace was fine until Facebook came along.
Imagine a site like Deviant, except for authors. Where you could share fanfics as well as other works, belong to groups, have featured items, forums, meetups, etc. It'd be great. There are other writing sites now, I know, but not a comprehensive replacement for ff.net.... Yet.

However, if there is a problem, the staff SHOULD post a notice saying "We're aware there's an issue, and we're working on it." If nothing else, it will cut down on all the "What's going on!?" questions, allow them to take some time off and fix it when they're ready. I wouldn't know what to say.
In all honesty though, for all the complaining I hear, I never seem to have as many issues with FF.net as others are complaining about. I guess I'm just lucky.

Refer to my first post on a way to access your story to edit it.
I don't usually ever have any problems myself. In the 10 years I've been a member of FFnet this is really the first time I've had such an aggravating problem.

And come to think of it, FF.net is probably trying to figure out what the problem is and won't post a notice until they believe they have found a solution.

I seem to remember in the past that ff.net was a bit easier to use. They even allowed different fonts etc. But as they grew, things got complicated. I will agree that ff.net has problems and could use improvement, but like you said, until there is a better site or something with the same bells and whistles but fewer problems. Sadly, I think the only way that would happen is if they start charging for the services. But free is free. You get what you pay for which is nothing.

They do, generally, respond to technical issues fairly quickly, however... at least, they usually do. But sometimes it will take them a week or so, and sometimes their "fix" can be worse than the "damage," but they will get around to fixing it. Then they'll announce there was a problem they fixed (or that they spent time working on the problem and couldn't fix it, but hold on because they will soon).

It's been going on since last week Friday. And the issue is that they should at least acknowledge that they know there is a problem and they are working on it, instead of having their members frustrated and in the dark for almost a week.

I remember that. That would have absolutely devastated me if I'd had a story that big with that many reviews deleted like that.

As for the issues that ff.net has been having these past few years, I think I'm lucky to have experienced very few of them as I can't even remember what issues frustrated me in the past anymore. It's either that or it's due to my huge gap in updates that I rarely log onto my account unless I intend to post something...

Yep.
Their first action whenever any maintenance needs to be done is almost always to disable the search engine to reduce server load. The good news is it probably means they're aware of the problem and working on it. The bad news is that we probably won't have a working search engine on ff.net for a while.
