LOL the absurdity of them "bonding" because Sasuke tried to murder them both is incredible, considering that they both still fangirl over him. The only way that works is if it was after the fact and they had both moved on. As it stands now, Karin is just another person for Sakura to flaunt her victory and her prize over. It's funny how Kishi tried to show SS in a semi decent light then turns around and says that Sakura is "immersed in poison" when it comes to Sasuke.
Welcome back KnS!!!
IMO, in the real story they really bonded. That moment when Sakura is healing her while she's still the supposedly enemy is strong. Sakura is crying, then Karin is touched and she cried too. That precise moment, they bonded. It's not because Sasuke tried to kill them both. They bonded because of their suffering and empathy. But after that, there is nothing and this is really a big miss.
Sakura and Karin should have talked a little when Karin have been made prisoner or Konoha. I always imagined that Sakura and Naruto would come to see her in her prison... it was such a miss... Naruto never talked to her while she was an Uzumaki !!! I'll never understand...
I also always thought that Sakura and Karin would continue to bond while letting their feelings for Sasuke go away. That time when Karin said "I'm done" it was so badass... Why did he went back and made her a fangirl again ? It's just...
But in the end of the manga, that bond is destroyed because having Sakura tape over Karin's picture with Sasuke is really low from her... she would never do something like that... the real Sakura would have put that team7 picture on her table, because team7 was so dear to her. Even more than Sasuke alone.

You know what guys ? That one-shot is here only to justify the fact that Himawari will have the byakugan in the next gen series. It's not about Naruto becoming Hokage.
It's a pretext. Only to justify future settings.
SP must have asked (forced) Kishimoto to give it to her.
It's utterly obvious that Kishimoto is not happy with this.
Also, I can't help but notice that, once again, Naruto and Hinata are not really talking to each other.
Hinata send the children to wake him up.
She then only tell him some words, then she leave.
And after, she finds him unconscious.
They have nothing to say to each other. Nothing. Everything is very formal between them because Kishimoto don't know how they could interact. They have no chemistry, no magic. Nothing. She doesn't seem to care about Naruto's dream at all. It's like he must wake up for his usual day at work... Sakura would have woken him up right away... Hinata feels so out of place with Naruto. LOL...
Everything that happens with Naruto family makes NO kittening SENSE. Everything.
What is happening with Himawari is a pure epic farce.
It's hurting me so much so see all this...

I just thought... This should've been named Sarada Gaiden instead.
No because this is a shônen. So putting the name of a girl as title wouldn't work.
So ' Kishi ' (editors *cough*cough*) chose to put Boruto's name.
All this are just commercial moves. 'Boruto' sounds almost the same as 'Naruto', so it's easily recognisable, and you understand right away it must be Naruto's next gen.
By the way, Shinashiku would have been waayyy too long and complicated for a title, and nobody would rely it with Naruto like it's possible to do with 'Boruto'. Those are the reasons why the name Kishimoto chose at first wasn't ACCEPTED by the editors. This is not Kishimoto's choice for sure. Then someone had the "excellent" idea to use the same meaning as Neji because Neji have been used to put Naruto and Hinata together. Boruto is the perfect name. I wonder who came out with it...
So... Sarada is the main character of that gaiden. It's clear since the beginning. Boruto has the movie, and they wanted to give something to SasuSaku fans so they made that gaiden revolving around Sarada. Don't expect to see Boruto, Naruto, or Hinata do something really badass. Even Sakura will not do anything to let Sarada shine a little. Everyone look horribly OOC and weak just to let Sarada shine because it's all for commercial purposes. Don't expect to actually learn something concerning the story you once loved. This will not happen. Kishimoto is just writing on command for commercial purposes. That's all.
No way Sakura would be that weak, falling or her knees from that small attack. She made the face she usually made around Naruto to Sasuke. LOL. SasuSaku fans are loving it and they are seeing love in it. Double standards. LOL. When Sakura did those kind of faces around Naruto, it was only friendship LOL.
Editors must believe that fans want to see Sarada. But fans wanted to see the original characters treated better, in reality.
Boruto will shine in the movie. Everything is already set up. Also, look how they are trying to interested you in reading or watching the movie. It's all about drama. Sarada's drama with her parents, Boruto's drama with his parents. It's pitiful really.

Kishimoto choosing it to be the "loving" gesture Sasuke expressed to Sakura skewed the meaning it had had up to that point. Except for the fact that Sakura is obviously not Sasuke's priority, and that he isn't willing to spend any time with her until his important work is done -- whatever that might be.
Personally, I interpreted the use of the forehead poke between Sasuke and Sakura at the end of the manga to be a cover for the fact that Sakura's forehead had been sacred to Naruto. Since it was decided that Naruto would be stuck with the deadly dull Hinata, there had to be a way of making it seem as if Sakura's forehead issues and all that foreshadowing were retconned by Sasuke's gesture.
THIS.
...Yes, exactly. Kishimoto is still writing the same old story he's been writing for 699 chapters. That's why this story is such crazy mixed messaging. He can't let NS go, yet he's not going to go all out and have a consensual mutually-affirming SS lovefest either.
And hello? The panel with Naruto saying "Let's go save your mom!" - Wha??!? Shouldn't this be Sasuke's line? Why is Naruto the one saying it?
The whole thing is a mess. I think ultimately, NH had to be the ending to satisfy the higher powers, that's why it's such a no-show in the manga. It's an SP-driven ship, made by the anime and brought to fulfillment in the movie. But Kishimoto never wanted it.
Which leaves the real manga ending NS or SS? And that's why the Gaiden is such mixed messaging. Kishimoto doesn't want to disrespect his main character, who has always chased after Sakura. It's Naruto's whole identity. So he can't show a fully-realized SS. Showing SS in a mutually loving relationship means that Naruto lost (even though he's with Hinata, the one he never wanted) and makes Naruto less of a hero.
HOWEVER, Sasuke is Kishimoto's favorite, so he is the one who is awarded Sakura and her long-suffering love of still waiting at home for the cool drifter guy. But any kind of affection between the two is never ever shown, and now their child might not actually even be theirs.
Affection between them would make one the clear winner over the other. And honestly, Sakura was one of Naruto's main goals. Making Sasuke and Sakura have a full-on romance makes Naruto irrelevant.
So Sakura looks like Kushina (the manga's high bar of what a loving wife/mother should look like), gets unconditional support from Naruto (who has his hero's identity wrapped up in loving her his whole life), and maintains an unromantic marriage to Sasuke (who is the author's favorite) so that Naruto stays relevant.
That's why the relationship messaging is such a mess. Even though the story's over, Kishimoto still can't commit. This weirdo ship-heavy ending — where NH is noticeably absent, there are panels that pre-699 would have been overtly NS, and we're seeing more positive scenes of Sakura than we did the whole last half of the manga — instead of a ninja-related plot is a perfect example of how Kishimoto can't commit to the ships he's slated for the end.
He's ok with Sakura being with Sasuke (because Sasuke was his favorite) but NH falls just as flat in writing/drawing as it does for everyone else who's been following the manga. That's why he's not covering it.
So yeah, I'm taking the long way around, but I completely agree with you - Kishimoto is still writing for NS. And in fact, even in the manga he never stopped. He just tacked on the NH ending. But in this ship-heavy Part 3, Naruto is still coming across as NS to me. Not NH.
The forehead poke is a stand-in for real love. And yeah, it's a subtle ret-conning of Naruto's connection with Sakura. So stupid.
I agree with everything you've said. I feel like we will get some SS scene, or perhaps him saving her at the last moment, with Naruto looking on smilingly like Hinata after the Pain defeat in Part 2. Something like him being happy to see his two friends together. But nothing more SS than something sweet like a look or even a hug. I don't think Kishi will commit to a kiss. I don't think SS will crash and burn, even though I'd like it to.
On another note, if this level of shipping confusion had gone on before the ending, a lot more people would have been in Sakura's camp. If you had Naruto supporting Sakura in words, and Sasuke occasionally putting forth a little effort/action to support her, while Sakura was stuck in the middle, leaning on herself for support in a bad situation, I think there would have been a lot more sympathy for Sakura in choosing the one that loved her completely and unconditionally.
Unfortunately, in the manga, every two steps forward she took were immediately followed by three steps back. Either by thinking of Sasuke or crying, or by having it paired with some crap with Hinata doing the same thing.
But if this type of shipping ambiguity happened in the manga — with Naruto and Sasuke having to rescue a strong Sakura — I think fans would have reacted better to her. Instead having doe-eyed Hinata inserted at every opportune moment undermined anything Sakura brought to the story.
THIS. SO MUCH THIS.
Why do I have the feeling that the April 4 SP/SJ interview with the VAs said about Naruto and Sakura's bonds are more stronger than husband and wife. Sakura is more like Kushina than any other female cast. And Naruto and Hinata's relashionship cannot work without Sakura so that the three of them can have a happy family in the end might actually be legit instead of a mere jest
I have this feeling too. The seiryus had this feeling and they were totally immersed in Naruto's world. We're not wrong to feel that way. Everyone that have a brain feels that way.
Also, considering the fact that in Japan, marriage is most a "contract" than love, it could be true.

What I think about this chapter...
I'm just UTTERLY, STRONGLY shocked because Sakura is so damn OOC to a point it's painful to watch.
That moment between her and Sarada, that moment when she's pocking Sarada's head it's just.... Completely out of it. I'm sorry. That thing hurt me and shocked me a lot. It's like Kishimoto is grasping to branches because he lost the forehead kiss that was his real love back-story since the beginning of the manga. How could that forehead poke became such a big thing ? How that forehead poke that was ONLY between Itachi and Sasuke have spread to Sasuke and Sakura, and then to Sakura and Sarada ? Please ugh... I'm sure Kishimoto will make Sasuke poke Sarada's head at some point now. It's so cheap... I can't even...
Naruto was supposed to kiss Sakura on her forehead. THAT was supposed to be the real love back-story of the manga. THAT was the real thing that was spreading since the beginning. We even had Tsunade and Dan play in it.
He sets everything up in the beginning to have Naruto kiss Sakura's forehead, and he foreshadowed it all along. That was a very classic theme that you can find in a lot of manga stories. Girl is in love with the "cool" guy, good guy is watching and good guy is actually what the girl really wants but she can't see it yet.
Even those moment when Kishimoto paralleled her (again) with Kushina were OOC for Sakura because she never had that kind of behaviour. Sakura is more foolish. She never had that kind of almost shy reaction. What happened to her lust and her foolishness ? She became a woman and a mother OKAYYY... but it's not her. She's not really exactly like that. Her putting her finger under her mouth like that, it's not like her. And her loling while she's touching her head... it's a Naruto thing. It's not Sakura's. I can't even recognize her with this behaviour.
Yes she was like Kushina in the manga, but she never was the exact same copy. She was always herself. She was just giving a Kushina vibe that's all. This is not Sakura.
I'm sorry but it's exactly like Kishimoto IS FORCING HER RESEMBLANCE WITH KUSHINA to make her look even more like her. To make her look even more like the girl that was like Kushina. Or else he's just so short of ideas and so lost that he just recycled what he already wrote... I don't know he already wrote that kind of exchange between Naruto and Kushina so it would be easy just to reuse it. But he's not that dumb right ? What does he want to show ? Really ? I think it's all on purpose.
Also, why did Sakura look sad when thinking about a kiss with Sasuke ? Did they never even kiss ? Really ? Why is Kishimoto doing this ?
Also, how it's possible that a girl as young as Sarada at that moment would say to her mother " you're nasty " and think that her mother was thinking about sex ? Really ?? It's an adult response not a child's !!
Why that 'Karin is the mother thing' is still here ? Why Naruto is still saying to Sarada that it's not really important ? It's like Kishimoto is setting us up. Is Karin really the biological mother of Sarada ? I can't make my mind to accept that a SHÔNEN MANGAKA would write that. I mean really ? He already went too far. It's a shônen ! Why doing all this ? Is this a rebellion ? Are the editors really OK with this ? Maybe they don't care... after all, they just wanted to know that poor Hinata was able to be impaled on Naruto's kitten, so they can fap on the idea of it.
AND THEN
PAGE 8 came.
I'm sorry, I'm now SURE AS HELL that Kishimoto is sending a message.
" Cold hard truths, facts, none of that matters "
The fact that's it's Naruto saying it is while talking about love and about Sakura... makes it even more stronger.
" As long as deep down inside you want to help her... "
" That's what's make it the real thing! "
This is Kishimoto telling us that canon doesn't matter. Only feelings that are buried deep down inside are real. Canon is not real. Canon (hard facts) can't change the feelings that were in the past. If you love someone, well then you love that someone, no matter what happens.
PS : and I was right, Kishimoto really used that lame excuse that we were talking about for Sasuke's weakness : jumping dimension. And he let Naruto with no excuse, still looking like a total looser. The Hokage.

SasuSaku is already canon.
But yet I don't think that's what he wanted to do.
I don't know everything feels forced and that's not the vibe Kishimoto was giving us.
This is all forced on him I'm certain.

So... I've talked with one of my japanese friends about that "dan'na-sama" Sakura said.
This is what she said to me :
" Dan'na-sama means "the master" or "the husband". If there is "sama", the person is talking about someone else's husband, not her husband. "
" Dan'na is a popular way to call your husband in Japan. It's not distant. "
I've asked her what should I think about a wife that calls HER husband "dan'na-sama".
She said :
" She should learn japanese ! It's like a beginner's mistake ! "
I've asked her if that could show some distance between the wife and the husband.
She said :
" No. If she's talking about HER husband with "dan'na-sama" then there is something off. "
She asked me about the context. I explained a little, I told her that it seems that the wife hasn't seen her husband since a very long time. I told her it's from Naruto.
She said :
" You have these readings ! So... I think either it's not her husband, either it's sarcastic. But the fact that she hasn't seen him for a long time doesn't explain that "sama". Or else it's a very specific context... if you want to mark a distance between your husband, as a wife you would say "otto", not "dan'na", and not "dan'na sama". "
This is not a translating mistake, she confirmed to me that the kanjis are saying dan'na sama and to her it's REALLY weird for a wife to call HER husband like that. She also said the "sama" could be here because she's talking to someone else. I could guess that maybe it would be a way to 'present' her husband to the stranger with the use of 'sama'. I don't know if I understood well. What she told me exactly is that :
" I think here she used 'sama' toward the person she's hitting. It's complicated. 'sama' is usually used for others. It's a polite use. But you can use it when you talk to a third person about your mother, brother, wife... "
So... what I understand from all this is that "danna" is not that distant, but the use of "sama" seems off to her. To her it's somewhat sarcastic, but not mean. It's like if you're saying "this girl won't finish her meal" when you're talking about your daughter. Well I guess it's the same when Sakura said "that girl of mine".

keeping Naruto like himself would mean that he would have to be going all out to go rescue his Sakura-Chan. Kishi can't have that. (Yet) lol.

OK. My opinion is that DNA testing is a red herring. Definitely. The answer is in the DNA sample.
Suigetsu is not sure it's from Karin's birth so...
Seems to be an umbilical cord still. So... from who ?
At first I thought it was from Sakura because it would be perfect to prove she's the mother undoubtedly... but... why would Karin have this... ?
That perfect match is weird. Perfect match is not possible unless with yourself (or a clone...) right ? Does Kishimoto even knows that ? Did he want to simplify everything for his young readers ?
So what ? All that kittening story about clones... is that umbilical cord Sarada's ? Why is it in Karin's desk ? Is Sarada a clone ? A clone from who ? Why all that philosophical discussion about parenting, genes passing and all ? Is Sarada an experiment ? Did they want to create the perfect ninja with Uzumaki and Uchiha DNA ? Ugh my head....
The question is : why the kitten is there a DNA testing in that gaiden ? Why ? Well because nobody believes that Salara is Sakura's child. So let's do a DNA testing because it's not questionable right ? So... will that DNA sample be from Sakura ? Does Kishimoto read the forums ? I mean it's so deeply unbelievable those theories were CRAZY but still we find it in the canon manga a short time after some fans wrote it in forums. How is that even possible ? Did fans in Japan made a fuss about it that much ? To me it's a proof that Kishimoto is writing whatever and that he never predicted to write all this kitten.
Still... all this is just horrible and I don't really care who the kitten the mother is.
It's hurting me deeply to see fans here pushed to a point for them to write "Naruto is a piece of trash".
Really.
It's hurting me.
Naruto is not that.
This is not him. He's not like himself at all.
Everything is destroyed. The real story was wrapped too quickly in the end, and the end is not satisfying at all. And then, we're forced in that gaiden and we're not interested in these stories because we wanted the original story to be wrapped with care and time. Kishimoto said he wanted to finish everything, and to me he didn't succeed at all. And now that gaiden... that brings MORE drama were the original drama hasn't got proper answers... it's deeply unsatisfying because the characters don't have fulfilled lives.
That plot is so empty it's still telling me that Kishimoto is writing whatever comes to his head. He never wanted to write all this time about Naruto. He wanted to end it sooner. He probably wanted to end it with Pain arc.
What I don't know, is the reason why he's writing all those horrible things.
Is this because he believes this is good ?
Is this because he wants to destroy it all ?
Is this because he wants to tell us some message ?
Was he forced to write about this ?
I still strongly think that NEVER THE KITTEN he wanted to write those stories. IMO he wanted to give Naruto the Hokage title, Sakura the girl of his dream, and a child and that's it. Neji was supposed to be the heir or Hyuuga clan, Sasuke was supposed to live in Konoha trying to repair his sins, Tsunade was supposed to give Naruto the Hokage title, the bijuus were supposed to be freed. Why is Kurama still in Naruto's womb ? Were are the other Bijuus ? It was supposed to be a HAPPY END WITH NARUTO'S DREAMS FULFILLED. It was foreshadowed enough. And we're forced into this... and we even never saw Naruto BECOMING Hokage... ugh...
