In terms of DVD/Blu-Ray sales? No idea.
All I do know is that Japan blasted The Last with bad reviews. If Studio Pierrot didn't hire false positive reviewers, I'm pretty sure the rating would be lower than it is now. (Which is 2 1/2-3 stars?)
Plus the no refunds BS likely helped sales when Studio Pierrot KNEW people would lose their minds over The Last and its deceit and lies.

I think we're focusing too much on Japanese market, but Pierrot doesn't give a kitten about it, he's focusing in USA and Europe's market where the money Boruto makes comes from. If we look at the Naruto's sales he never was able to beat One Piece, so Japanese market is dominate by Oda's Manga, but Naruto's internacional sales made him the king, so Pierrot made Boruto just for this market. Look at the hottest manga in Manga plus, Crunchyroll list and so on.

According to Someanithing, in theaters it sold ¥2,000,000,000 worth of tickets, compared to Road to Ninja's ¥1,359,163,387. This is also slightly above the first two MHA movies. But it's interesting that they pulled it after 5 weeks if I'm reading this right. The MHA movies stayed in theaters 6-9 weeks, much like One Piece or weaker Detective Conan films (both of which outsell Naruto). Even the two movies directly below it, Crayon Shin-chan's, stayed in 8-10+ weeks. I'll leave a link if anyone's curious

To give you a perspective, when manga industry was at its peak in 2006; total market size of manga books (excluding manga magazines) was about 260 billion yen in Japan alone. That's about USD 2.5 billion in Japan alone.I think we're focusing too much on Japanese market, but Pierrot doesn't give a kitten about it, he's focusing in USA and Europe's market where the money Boruto makes comes from. The other countries outside Japan combined (all countries in the world that imports manga from Japan) at that time contributed about ~4.6% of total market size. The international market have since grew in 3%-7% YoY basis.
~95% Japan, ~5% all other countries in the world combined. This is for manga market.
For Anime market, it's totally different ball game. There are many analyses out there you can refer to. But in summary, it is much bigger than manga market, but it also costs a lot more to produce (high risk, high return).
The recent market size for anime was about USD ~19.9 billion (domestic & International combined, with international market USD ~9 billion). The international market continues to grow.
Now, recent report from TV Tokyo's earnings indicated that their anime division earned 11.6 billion yen for domestic and international (about USD 110 million). This covers *ALL* the anime series they have distributed in FY 2019 (including Naruto and Boruto which are leading the sales). And btw, Bleach was ranked #5 in their sales report for FY 2019. Yes folks, Bleach --a series that stopped airing since March 2012 was actually came up as #5 in TV Tokyo's FY 2019 report.
So, let that sink in.
Overall anime market size USD ~19.9 billion. TV Tokyo's anime division with *ALL* their anime series earned ~5% of the market size. Also put the production costs into the picture.
Such context would give you more perspective where Naruto franchise is within the grand scheme of manga/anime market.

I still find it funny of some people think that Kaguya is a great Villian, I mean I have heard some say they love her because she is so hot, others say it's because she made Hinata and her clan more prominent.
Hell one user on DA even said that Kaguya can take Sauron in a fight.

In other words Naruto was once a moneymaker the if the anime team working on it said that they could return it to its glory days by them all putting on pink dress and sing a song. The CEO would be putting on the stocking asking what song before they could blink.
Kishimoto promising them the end of Naruto with NS. SP promise the return of 2006 with nH. Which one would the companies would go for?

A few thing to remember as well. A lot of those tickets were preorder tickets of the first two weeks and were bought under the impression that the last movie was a NS movie from the trailers. Next that it made more money in Japan than anywhere else in the world despite the fact they were not deceiving the international audience to go see it like they did their domestic and it was suppose to be an international targeted money maker. It made 32 times the money they got from the US -home to the largest number of Hinata devotees- in Japan the place they were willing to abandon for the US fanbase.
That ree is why we keep bringing up the Japanese market. Yes they want the international money, but the threw away fans they understood for a phantom audience they didn't have a real understanding of...mainly would they financially support their pairing. So bringing the vast disparity between the earning is to show how much of an idiot they all were.

Well, at least the second group aren't lying. Once he made Kaguya have the byakugan the last chance of stepping back from nH was gone. Though they had to throw away the original Hyuuga story, Negi's story, to do it.

Oh please! Honestly Sauron would win that fight! Hell, Kaguya may have had the Byakugan and the Rinne Sharingan, but she lacked a lot of creativity with them due to how she was dropped in all of a sudden.
I would want to show that in my fanfic that in spite of her gifts, it was her raw power that made Kaguya dangerous but also why Hagoromo and Hamura had beaten her. Of course she also shows up only in flashbacks or being mentioned in passing.

Kaguya has the powers of the 9 Tailed Beasts. All that Kaguya does is change worlds or throw pieces of wood that Unreasonably causes death. In the end She summoned a giant bunny that contained the 9 Beasts that Team 7 was able to defeat easily without making any effort. A kaguya fight is the worst fighting in existence. I prefer watching the fillers over watching this stupid fight written by kishi.
That arc should have ended with Obito's defeat. That was the last time the war arc had any impact. It was clear after that even before the ending that both the arc and kishimoto were almost out of steam by Marada, and fumes by Kaguya.
Its also clear he had no idea what to do with her. "OK she should be "all powerful" to make it make sense she replaced Madara (a character he made so powerful he didn't know how to defeat) but incompetent. So, they can defeat her quickly enough that he can then move onto the Naruto vs. Sasuke rematch before he hit chapter 700."

That was my prediction from around the time we reached that point in the war arc. It would've been the best spot to end the arc which would've allowed us to slowly transition into other matters like the status of the villages, the tailed beasts, Taka, Orochimaru, Naruto vs Sasuke, etc.
Volume 68 ended the entire Obito conflict, and if it stopped there then you could've spent the remaining 4 volumes on the stuff that I just mentioned.

Also combined the fact that many Japanese fans wanted refunds for their movie ticket and were denied. So they were tricked by false advertising on the hopes of NaruSaku AND Sasuke and Kakashi being more predominate....and when they realized they got tricked, they were denied refunds.
The movie ratings were VERY low and like here in America, they both deleted low scores AND they implanted 5 star reviews with nothing more than "It's a great movie. You need to see it."
It is sad how obvious the media openly lies to you, manipulates the numbers, and fakes it all....and yet people STILL believe them.
"Naruto the Last got 5/5 stars"
How? All the user reviews gave it 1-2 stars. How does it still have a perfect score?
Even the thank you page for Kishimoto was altered where many of the criticism notes were deleted. There was one comment where a father who grew up with Naruto berated Kishimoto for making SS canon stating that he was sending a bad message to young girls about who they should date.
So....yeah, the reality that is and the reality the media paints are two very different things.

I'm trying to understand, but I can't find out how Boruto is still profitable enough. I mean if you put yours expectations so high, and don't got what you think you could, why are they still animating Boruto?. Even in MAL Boruto can't reach the top 20, practically in all Boruto's merchandise they put Naruto in the name or it's about Naruto Shippuden. And Boruto isn't so much popular in Japan for what I've been reading. That's why I can't stay calm. Maybe I'm over thinking it I hate Covid19.In other words Naruto was once a moneymaker the if the anime team working on it said that they could return it to its glory days by them all putting on pink dress and sing a song. Think of it like this. If something made a million dollars 1,000,000. Tenth of that is hundred-thousand, 100,000. Tenth of that is ten thousand 10,000 and so on.
Naruto was one of the biggest manga/anime ever. Still one of the Top 3. The biggest international seller for years only rivaled by maybe dragon ball and now a days my hero academy. Used to for over a decade be part of a power hour duo with Pokemon, POKEMON. On a timeslot that was normally not good for ratings.
Boruto has according to namenash roughly 15-20% of Naruto earning before the ending.
It still has the brand name recognition which is often enough for foreign companies to purchase the right to distribute it locally; which name namenash says gives it a lot of money.
It had to be moved to Sunday so it can just be a random sunday cartoon kids watch while they wait for something else to come on so they can keep the ratings up.
The manga moved from the biggest manga magazine in japan to on of its subsidiaries.
...Sorry losing my train of thought because of the heat ....So, TLDR: It went from 'biggest manga ever' money to 'bog standard manga' money. Which is enough to keep the manga and anime going and sometimes release a new mobile game, but nothing else.
