He wanted NS from the beginning and he kept that in the manga. He just didn't go futher with the NS stuff. Like when he wakes up after sakura helped him. Don't you think he would've thanked her? There are other parts that didn't come up. Then 699 was all switch up.
You know when you have to make a movie to explain things, there was something wrong.

The more I think about, kishi did keep true to his story. The war arc is where I think they decided to go NH.

Incidentally explaining why the series doesn't really plummet downhill until the war arc.
Behold! Akame ga Kill's True Canon Pairing!

Then why showing Hinata only act like a weak girl during all war arc about love. Why showing 631, where it is Sakura that meet Naruto's dad, reinforcing that it is Sakura's that look like Kushina in attitude, and ultimatly, he ask Sakura to take care of his son?. Why in that CPR scene, we see Sakura's pledge to not let Naruto die, no matter what, same time as Hinata trip, Sakura save Naruto life for real here, she wants to defend his dream. Naruto awoke into Obito pocket dimension and was never aware of what exactly happen.
Why 676, Sasuke his shown ready to cut through Sakura to get a hit at Madara and it is Naruto that save her again there, Sakura's thanks him then. And why Having Naruto always care in the chapter where Kakashi awoke both mangekyo and Susano'o, it's Kakashi that made the save while Naruto ask Sasuke to do it and it won't even budge, he didn't care less of what happen to her even though Sakura save him earlier.
The war arc got one chapter that have open a door, 615, when Neji die. Even after Hinata little speech, it was cut out of importance when Kurama end it. Then it end with the hand holding, but in 616, Naruto hold hand with everyone to share Chakra.
It didn't stay true to his story. He had occasion during the war arc to make Hinata shine and Naruto show some affection toward her. Databook that was out during 691 could have state that Naruto has no love interest at the moment, it still state he loves Sakura. And Sasuke laugh at anyform of Sakura's feeling during 693.
War arc was bad. That I can agree he never decide NH during most of the war arc. It's an asspull no matter how you look at it. He could have made Sasuke care about Sakura during the war if he were to make SS happen credibly somewhat and made Sasuke saves Sakura a couple of time to erase the murder attempt. That way, a credible SS canon make more way for an NH canon credible. The other way to do it his to shift focus to Hinata. Make her important to Naruto during the war. 615 was a foundation for that. But he shut it out completely in 616.
He did what I just told here, but not credibly. SS happen out of nowhere, still in the movie and Hinata is the start of the movie and gain Naruto affection out of nowhere too. Even if Sakura make the most cruel rejection ever, it makes no sense, no matter how you look at it. That NH crap wasn't the original plan. HE SOLD OUT AT ONE POINT, BUT TOO LATE TO BE BELIEVABLE.
