How do people find these mad fics..OrochimaruxSakura? The synopsis alone would scare me away.
You know, when I suspect a fic may be something will make want gouging my eyes out, usually I read the reviews (because if it is tripe I am NOT giving it a hit). Usually, if it is a rape, torture, hate... fic the reviewers will comment on it (often praising the author and congratulating him by such a stuff like "putting that b*tch in her place").
That tactic has served me well, especially in Adultfiction.net, where you are never sure of what mind-scarring horrors lie behind a click.
By the way, I give a prayer for those poor souls visited Adultfanfiction.net having no idea of what kind of site it was.
I think some people are sick and try to infect us with their sickness. Or maybe it's just their intimate fantasies, lol. Disgusting really.

Maybe I sound judgemental, but honestly I have thought that sometimes. People will write a multi-chapter fanfic where the main character savagely rapes and tortures a female character (coincidentally, the outspoken tsundere) before cold-bloodely murdering her and destroying her corpse (and getting away with everything), and then the writer will claim they are not his fantasies. Are you joking? This has come out of YOUR head. YOU have imagined this. And YOU thought a fic with that content would be arousing or other people would find it arousing.
Sadly I have found that kind of tripe.
As much as I LOVE mangas and the Japanese culture, I have been forced to realise that the Japanese taste in terms of litterature can sometimes quite....disturbing. Or maybe they are more honest about it? They are open about liking incest/rapes/torture/ - and express these tates without any inhibitions in their litterature.
Personally I always take effort on separating "Japanese culture and mindset" from "quirky, eccentric or disturbing stuff Japanese makers of comics, cartoons, games... think audience will love" and not mingling them. It is not the same thing at all.
It is true they have a different attitude regarding what kind of themes and scenes can and can not be admisible in comic-books aimed for kids and teens. But it does not mean they are more open about liking certain kind of stuff. Large numbers of otaku population love reading incest hentai, but most Japanese do not. Blood siblings incest is not more tolerated there than here.
When Go Nagai started making manga (Indecent School, Devilman, Mazinger-Z, Cutey Honey, Violence Jack...) in the late sixties/early seventies, he quickly earned a reputation for introducing fanservice, excess gore and often outright disturbing stuff in manga and anime aimed for the teen crowd. Nobody had done that before. He got heavily criticised for it.
Besides, many of those writers add disturbing stuff for shock value. There is many comic-"writers" do not know how writing a good story that appeals or draws people; so they add excess gore, out-of-place sex scenes, rape, torture, etcetera... to shock people and thus drawing attention. There are many Western comic-book writers also do that. "No one likes my story! What can I do... That's right, I will include maimings and a rape scene, and pretend my comic-book literature piece is adult, mature and unafraid of pushing the envelope! Inmature teenagers will buy it in droves!"
So it is not a culture thing.
Anyway, I will not touch with a ten-meter-pole fics containing:
- Rape
- Torture
- Character-bashing, especially if it is fueled by shipping issues
- Drama for the sake of drama (for example, after failing in retrieving Sasuke, Sakura hits Naruto and the villagers all but stone him, forcing him to leave Konoha. Then Naruto becomes a dark, moody badass, Sakura gets angsty and looks for ways to atone her sins... That situation makes absolutely NO sense according canon, but the author is altering canon to create an artificial situation in order to have his/her story ongoing because he is unable to think of an organic way to have Naruto leaving the village, so he/she takes the easy road, even if it does not fit and it is out-of-character)
- Author shoving his/her political agenda down my throat
