Heaven and Earth is holding a contest to help spotlight all of our talented members that have been contributing to the Fanart Gallery and the Fanfiction Library while maybe encouraging a few more entries. In fact, it's two separate contests - one for fanfiction and one for fanart. Unlike the gallery and library, the entries do have be about Naruto and Sakura and entries should be somehow related to one of ten keywords (or phrases), to be detailed below. However, they do not need to revolve around the keyword.

Twenty-five keywords have been selected and placed in a poll. Any member can vote on the keyword that they want to see in a fanfic between now and June 28, 2006 and the top ten keywords will be the ones used.

Then members have until July 26, 2006, 5 PM EST to enter fanfics or fanart for the contest. All entries must comply with the rules for Fanfiction and Fanart that have already been set out. Fanfictions can be as short or as long as the writer wishes, but they must be complete. By the same token, fanart can be very simple or elaborate. All entries should be placed in the folder specially set aside for the contest to make it easier for the judges.

And the judges are YOU! Any member with at least 50 posts is invited to PM myself with your vote for both the fanfiction and fanart contests. All votes need to be in by one week from the end of the close of entries - August 2, 2006, 5 PM EST. I'll tally them up and announce the winners.

I'll only vote coz i can't write interesting stories.

Not sure I can handle this one. My fanfics tend to balloon out of control, so trying to write a contest-worthy one in that small an amount of time will be something of a stretch for me. I suppose it might depend on the keyword. Since it's for a contest (with an actual prize), I'd have to account for editing time too -- unlike with Training -- which usually takes me longer then writing the thing itself. (Just ask me about my (still unfinished) original fantasy novel, which I spent two months writing, and am now going into my third year of making revisions)

Ah, well. I'll try to enter the contest, anyway. (The fanfic one, of course. Somehow, I doubt any characters I could draw would resemble Naruto and\or Sakura enough for anyone to recognize them )

Keep in mind, people, that these fanfics will have to be based on one of those twenty five 'keywords' (many of which aren't exactly words, but rather are phrases. Heh) It's pretty hard to start writing until you know what that keyword is going to be, unless you want to write twenty five fanfics between now and July 19th (one per keyword).

I can tell you right now there are some keywords on that list I wouldn't know how to begin to use in a NaruSaku fanfic. I strongly suggest that we not decide for certain whether or not we'll participate until we know what the keyword is going to be.

Technically, you'd "only" have to write 16 fanfics or fanarts to make sure that whatever you wrote would apply since only 15 of the keywords is being voted off. The top ten vote getters are all staying as options.

More importantly, the entries do not need to revolve around the keywords, despite the use of that name. Just fit them into the story or art. We don't want to hobble our artists' creativity.

But yeah, you probably don't want to start writing ... or at least get too attached to a particular keyword ... until the 28th.

im a lazy ho if a previous artwork fits into a keyword can I use it? XD;;; I dunno if I have time to do another one cause I gotta draw some prints for Otakon

Requesting some clarification: Do the stories need to have NaruSaku as main characters, or as a main focus, or can we get away with them having a supporting role? Or perhaps something like a Watson point of view from another character on their relationship?

Previous fanarts or fanfics that you've created are fine as entries, regardless of whether or not you've previously submitted them to our gallery or library.

The NaruSaku stuff doesn't need to be the primary focus, but it should be a bit more than just a passing mention. It should be enough that you'd feel comfortable labelling it as a NaruSaku fic or artwork and placing it in those categories in the gallery and library.

And as mentioned before, the Fanfics have to be full, complete stories.

yeah i was wandering the same thing i'm hoping there will be, because i'm not very good at the fan fics even though i've been practicing lately.

i have no talent in art or writing, so i'm just gonna sit back, relax, and enjoy the work of others

Alright, I am looking forward to this contest, I can tell its gonna be a blast. It will give me a chance to greese the gears and get back into the swing of writing, I've been so busy lately I havnt had a chance to do almost any writing.

We weren't planning on offering any prizes to the runner-ups, but we were going to announce them depending on the number of entries.

I'll take a crack at the fanart portion of it. Unfortunately writing a ship manifesto is eating up all available time I'd otherwise have to work on a fic.

I'll probably enter, but I don't think I'll win. XD So I'll just say I'm doing this for fun. My art's not good enough to beat Hinano anyways. <3

Everything will be onsite. We'll be adding a separate category for both the Gallery and Konoha Library for submissions so that they'll be easy for people to find.

Let's make it just one entry per keyword per category (fanart or fanfic).

So basically you can have mutiple entries...but you must limit them to one entry, per keyword, per category.

And there will also be prizes for 2nd and 3rd place, for both categories. The prizes will be announced soon

If you have the time and energy, you can enter 1 fanfic/fanart for every one of the 10 different Keywords that will be selected...if you so choose.

It all depends on you, and how many entries you want to have.

Any member can make submissions to The Great Heaven & Earth Fanfic/Fanart Contest from now until July 19, 2006, 5 PM EST. Simply submit your fanart or fanfic to the submission section of our fanart gallery or fanfic library.

You can make up to one submission per keyword for both the fanart and fanfic contests. Previously completed works are permissable as long as they match a keyword. Just PM a mod if you need help moving them in with the rest of the submissions.

wow! this is a great idea... if we copy (not trace) another picture does it count as fanart for this particular contest, or do we have to make something completely original?
