Why do NH & SS have such big fandoms?

I only started shipping online about a year ago and I had no idea that there was anything besides NS, it never even crossed my mind that there was SS or NH. So I have been looking everywhere for reasons people like NH and SS, can anyone give some reasons? I just need some clarification.
