spelling and grammar are important. so is separating your paragraphs and make sure that each character's dialogue has it's own line. my best bit of advice is to go look at the forum topic here (I don't remeber what it's called) about fanfiction peeves. people tend to not like the same kind of things and looking at that will give you a basic overview of what to avoid.
