It's a recton. Don't remember the exact chapter but in this page:

Late 600's

Pretty self-explanatory. Don't even know why Sarada should be having that sharingan in the first place, it's bad news. How she unlocked it the way she did just discarded what the manga already established....kind of a big insult to the other Uchiha's who had to experience horrible things to unlock theirs too!

Oh wow, lol! Seriously, a cheating device? Technology? For jutsu? That's even more ridiculous. How does that make any sense? :lmao:

Oh my mistake. I just grazed that chapter because the Uchiha bore me and I don't care for all that text. The one thing I understood was that Uchiha's need to experience strong emotion and I thought the hatred/loss was only for developing new powers of the sharingan. Again, my mistake.

However it should be noted that that page itself is a retcon. Sasuke first activated his sharingan (that we see) when he thought Haku was going to kill him and Naruto. He didn't actually lose anything, I think it was the desperation, fear, and determination that pushed him to unlock it. The whole Uchiha thing is a mess and it had the most pages dedicated to it lmao.

Yea the guy who invented it did so to make training a thing of the past apparently. What's worse is according to a summary, the guy who made it was a decent but arrogant guy. Totally harmless, just a little thoughtless with his words when speaking the leader of all the ninja.

As a matter of fact, imagine how much more sense would be made if HE caused the conflict. What if the plot went something like this?:

Thanks to all of the treaties, trade between all nations is booming. Therefore, escort missions and deliveries are at an all time high and are in fact the only missions available. Naruto is working so hard at the office because of the high volume of missions he has to hand out. But he works so hard at it out of the affection he has for the ninja profession. Being a ninja was his whole life (literally) and with wars being a thing of the past, he wanted to keep the profession relevant. No one needs to hire assassins anymore, they just need someone to keep them safe from the occasional bandit. Chuunin and Jounin are a bit restless, but it gives Genin something to do. Ninja go to the academy to learn how to defend yada yada.

However, out of the village comes this kitten. He says with his invention, civilians will be safer than ever because they can use jutsu at the push of a button and no longer need to spend so much money paying a ninja to escort them to a destination and back.

Naruto is against this obvious reasons and then we get a movie with message about how careful we must be about technology (since the technology in Boruto seems to be a sore spot for even the fans). In addition, action can come from the idea that selling such obviously dangerous technology to just ANYBODY will lead to misuse or it falling into the wrong hands. Someone setting it off at the wrong time (during an argument on accident, blah blah) could lead to an actual conflict.

Boruto's story could be him and Naruto learning once more about the importance of forgiveness and how revenge is NOT (always) the right answer. Boruto could argue that the conflict is necessary and Naruto could argue that a peaceful resolution can be reached. And the ninja are in conflict because again, the older ninja remember the glory days of fighting for your home and younger ninja would be scared or excited about possibly having to actually fight.

It would be a way he could properly teach the lesson he's been trying to teach the whole manga (and failed at).

I don't know what hurts more. What we actually got, or what we could've got.

Also, personally, I think he would've found a lot of success and NOT piss Naruto off if he made it to be some kind of home security system. Robbers would be the thing of the past.

I heard that he does? Meh, might just be a rumour, but him being able to use gentle fist is a huge recton so there's still that.

Sarada being able to unlocking the sharigan the way she did was a recton. She was just excited to see her dad for the first time and boom sharigan? Doesn't work like that, and it sure didn't work like that for Sasuke or Obito.

Agreed on the super strength though.

I think he uses a cheating device. It's some technology that allows the wearer to store ninjutsu scrolls that can be used at any time. So someone who's never done a water jutsu can use a specific water jutsu at full potential if they have this device and the ninjutsu scroll. That's how Bolt used the Raikiri. He stored a jutsu scroll of it in this device he was wearing on his arm.

As for the sharingan. It was stated that it unlocks through powerful emotion. Not just anger and hatred. I suppose they thought it would be refreshing to see an Uchiha unlock it through joy for once, but it's not a retcon. However I agree 100% about the super strength. Since Salad just became a ninja, there is NO way Sakura had the time to teach her that when she was just learning the basics. There wasn't even any implication that she was learning it I mean come on.

Rehash. Rehash. Rehash. That's all I'm seeing.

Anyways also of note about this oneshot, Naruto was sleeping in.

You'd think he'd be up and ready before sunrise (if he even got sleep at all) for his ceremony. But he seems so unenthusiastic. I mean how did Hinata beat him there? Maybe the translation will explain some things but I am not convinced he wanted this job. This is especially egregious because after he becomes Hokage he never leaves the damn office. One wonders what the hell happened to him in between the time of chapter 699 and then. Like come on can his marriage to Hinata and becoming a father really take away all of his passion? To this extent?

@laylo
Naruto doesn't stop using sexy jutsu in part 2.
He even compete with konohamaru.
So I don't think he find it disgusting.

Oh no I don't mean he found the technique disgusting. I know he doesn't stop using it and in fact, most of the time that he does use it it's for something he needs (training mainly). But I could've sworn that he was upset with Jiraiya and Ebisu because both of them fell for the jutsu very easily. He didn't talk too highly of perverts either so I'm saying he was disgusted by anyone who was a victim of the jutsu, not the jutsu itself. Admittedly it was hypocritical of him given the fact that he fell for it too in one infamous comedic moment..

the humor in this oneshot was not up to snuff compared to the Lee and Sasuke SD either.

Part of it has to do with the recycled jokes.

A character does something ridiculous and others, including the serious character, praises it while the only 'sane characters' wonders what is wrong with everyone. It's been done before SO MANY times in many comedy series (including Lee and Sasuke SD). Now on its own that is NOT a problem because it can be legitimately funny. The problem is Sexy Jutsu isn't funny (even Naruto never found it funny and only used it to mess with and/or bribe his perverted teachers. I'm pretty sure that at 13 (after maturing a little) he was disgusted by anyone who fell for it). Sexy Jutsu on its own isn't outlandish enough to be ridiculous and so much of the humor was lost for me.

And using a surprising mundane and kinda stupid move in an important battle also can be really funny. But lemon juice was random in a 'LOL RANDOMZ' kinda way as opposed to a 'haha that's random' kind of way. Unless there's a joke I'm not getting, it was WAY too out there for the setting/characters to be funny. It was just, to be frank, stupid.

The other part is the characters.

We don't really know anything about ANY of them except Sarada and even she acted different. I understand making her the straight man but she wasn't shown to be violent in gaidan and so yes, that was a terribly cheap tactic to parallel her to Sakura (I would understand if she got angry because Bolt put her mother in there. We could've got a hilarious chase scene from that. But a standard 'stop fooling around'? I would've never guessed Sarada would get THAT upset over that). Bolt is a brat but instead of drawing humor from that he was basically a stand in for Lee (only less sympathetic. Lee was fun because of his genuine enthusiasm and naive nature meant that he would do everything with a gusto and seriously believe that what he was doing was cool. Bolt is a brat but supposedly born into greatness.) And who the hell cares about Mitsuki's and especially Konohamaru's opinion (Konohamaru hasn't been relevant since his introduction).

I mean I don't know if it was just me or what but this was not at all funny to me.
