Another version --Click here to view--

You know they warned me not to make double posts you can put it all in one post by using the edit button. But anyway I'm with you on this one we need translators who play fair and are not letting their fandom brainwash them. wink.gif

I can work with ungrammatical literal translations from Japanese (not babelfish garbage, although I can work with that, but not as well, because it's a mess). I can translate from the Japanese but with only knowing 100 kanji really well (and semi know around 100-150 more) you wouldn't want to wait how long it would take me! But I can do what the translators at Viz, etc... do, take a literal ungrammatical translation from a Japanese translator with basic knowledge of the Naruto manga (character names, country names, jutsu names) and clean it up pretty quickly. (Knowing what synonym fits best, etc... both Japanese and English are synonym rich languages, English even more so than Japanese. It's knowing what one fits best that is often the hardest part of the job.)

1) No caps lock in the title

2) You want translators to give a non biased review on pairings on a NARUSAKU site? Don't you think when others see the original translators already have a preferred pairing, they won't be called biased themselves? Your best bet on pairing situations are yaoi fans who don't hate Sakura/Hinata.

3) Or you know just take the manga for what it is and just go along with that?

True, I believe this is for our benefit not the web in general. It's to give us a translation that is not automatically biased against narusaku- something that has become infamously obvious on certain other Naruto fan sites. I'm sure not many people here are going to give a rip if those other sites call the translations we have are biased, we'll know we have the real deal, that's all that matters.

I apologize for bringing in US politics, but this is to combat the "Fox News" effect. The problem isn't that
they are biased in which side they agree with (so are a bunch of other news channels). They are
notorious for not even stating that another side exists. So its not surprising when their viewers have
certain world views, when they aren't even aware of an opposing view.

I'm just bringing this up, because when anti-NS forces use a scene or quote, it would be nice to know
whether the translation could be ambiguous. I appreciate posts by ciardha and others, who point out
when translations can have more than one interpretation. Especially when it involves like/love/ danarusakunp3.gif .

smile.gif If you can get Innera to do it, I'd like to bounce mine off of hers, her Japanese vocabulary knowledge is signifigantly larger than mine- I'm pretty sure- so she could get one out a lot faster than me, but then I can take a look over hers and the Japanese original and point out where synonyms would give a different feel and make my suggestion on what one fits best. (I'm most comfortable doing that kind of translation work, that's where my skill is.)

Basically. There is nothing you can do to prevent them from saying that, so there isn't any reason to worry about it. If the translator has a pairing or character preference that is even remotely relevant to the content translation, the accusation will be made by somebody, unless someone on "their side" can confirm it's accuracy.

It's the nature of pairing wars.

I can second the motion that this is a CRITICALLY important part of the translation process. My late father used to provide essentially the same amount of service working with an (then Serbo-)Croat ex-patriot named Antun "Tony" Nizeteo (diacritical marks on his name omitted) to translate Croation Poetry back throughout the 80s and into the early 90s. Tony would provide the literal ungrammatical translation, my father would clean it up. It could take weeks, or even months, to finish a book full of such poetry. (a lot of what they did together was published in the Journal of Croation Studies, which I believe is a now-defunct publication, but may be archived in some academic libraries, still)

Then again, that was poetry, and Naruto would be a lot less intensive in terms of idiomatic translations than poetry.

You haven't experienced the full cofusion of modern gender relations until you've heard an angry group of women yelling, "We want tentacles!" at an all-night Hentai-fest.
