The "Cid's Bar" Planning Thread

Um, because, i was thinkiiiiin that maybe the people behind the screen really really REALLY need a way to communicate with eachother? ):

the RP thread 'Cid's Bar' has friggen 8+ characters writing in there and I THINK WE'RE ALL LIEK, CHICKENS WITHOUT THEIR HEADS

maybe this thread will help organize our writing-- like say:
- how we can figure out how we can take turns writing
- how we know how to wait so everyone gets a turn to write what they want without our posts and actions being an esplotion of time paradoxes and confusion and constant editting
- maybe we can start a rule where someone has to write something in the 'Reason for edit:' box -- to let people know they EDITTED something? D:



oh and also, we can use this thread to plan storylines and arcs in!


whaddya say? And also, is anyone feeling kind of frustrated with the way we RP? Maybe we can make it easier and fairer-- so everyone doesn't blow a VEIN (LOLOL) while RPing-- and I really want everyone to have fun while doin it. (:

I don't think we're all running around like headless chickens, and all 8 people aren't all posting *at once*. It's just that I think you guys uber post so much, that by the time you actually finish whatever you're writing, someone else just posts a short post in the time you guys are posting. So, I guess in that sense maybe you might need this thread. To kind of go "YO! DUN POST YET! I BE WRITING EPIC POSTINGS RIGHT NAO D8"

but i think that BECAUSE of it being so laid-back, there's a higher chance of everything being a jumble of posts and time contradictions. D8

for example: we all do the laid-back, relaxed social RPing at one point right? But then at another point, we end up fighting someone or something and the posts really turn crazy because they take an ACTION/ADVENTURE-esque style.

that said, i think our kind of RP is worse than a fighting based RP-- so I really think that this thread is a must. And that we really need to figure out someway to spread and even out the awesomesauce.


and I have a suggestion!

okay, so at a few sites I've been dragged to by a few people i've met over the year, I noticed that the sites really do a good job with their RPs. What they do is specialize in ONE RP-universe (like ours right now) and then make multiple RP-threads.

For example:

Thread Title:
Girl's Night Out (Jyuuki, Shihna, Raven, Echo)

• "Girl's Night Out" is the title of the RP-adventure, so basically we're just pegging the thread with a name
• (Jyuuki, Shihna, Raven, Echo) are the only people involved in the thread; that means that only those people are allowed to post (unless given permission)

Other examples:

Thread Title:
A Business Meeting (Archer, Cid, Jyuuki, Shihna, Raven)

Thread Title:
A Date Long Overdue (Jyuuki, Ferrumo)

Thread Title:
First Day of Work (Echo, Jyuuki, Raven, Shihna)


a few things that I made up on the spot but do you guys get my point? I think we should start doing it that way-- it's easier, it gets rid of the clutter, and the time consistency makes sense because whenever the thread is done-- the memory is done.

Like, whenever each 'adventure' is through, it's generally understood that the character is at THAT place in time-- so with each different thread, it's a different day-- thus your character CAN post in multiple threads, without waiting for others to post.

i think, maybe it'll be better if we can digivolve like this; you can constantly post but in different adventures all at the same time-- saving time, allowing organization, and letting the people who don't get to do something-- do something. 8D

...uh we're the only active RP in the past 3 months.

I doubt anybody would mind the clutter. But I was thinking about that and if it comes to be a problem or if it just becomes to jumbled up-- maybe we can create a sub-forum for each universe. That way all the threads will go underneath 'Cid's Bar' as being one of the pinned "Home" threads.

And yeah sure that one thread is convenient-- but one of the main points I'm getting at is that everyone will get a chance to RP as much as they like, without having to wait for other arcs to be finished and whatnot. Also, the mini-threads ARE convenient in themselves; each will have it's own storyline and not be jumbled up with another and/or be pushed aside to be finished later.

So, what happens to the current story in the 'home-base' Cid's Bar? Does that get put on hold while other threads are made? What about the people who may not want to do a 'sub-thread', and want to continue the story in Cid's Bar, which would mean interacting with *all* the characters that are still in the bar. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just trying to get a clear understanding of what it is that you want to do here, as first you said that we could have the *same* character in different threads, rping at the same time (though I'm still unclear on how that works, as you would have to keep track of different storylines, and different times and dates *within* those storylines). And now you're saying that whenever we *complete* a thread *then* we can 'move' our character 'back' into Cid's Bar? So as I asked before, everything that's already going on in Cid's Bar would come to a standstill?

And I have to agree with Krisk on multiple threads. One RP I'm in has it defined to the point where if the location changes (from Asia to Europe, for example) then a new additional thread has to be made to finish the original thread's story in the new location.

Apologies for my absence. Had some viruses to deal with and it took all my comp's resources to do the scans, leaving not enough remaining for other stuff.

And plus, with all the different things going on with our characters, it would be best to have multiple threads... and then there wouldn't be much confusion. ^^ Additional threads might help whenever people accidentally post when you're trying to complete an epic, amazing one~ XDDD

I actually had planned on multiple threads for my arc...though that's on hold, officially, until SB's Ragorak arc is finished.

Which reminds me...*walks over and pokes the RPers posting in SB's thread to see if they are still alive.*

@SB: Any objection if I post the rough outline we agreed on for my arc in this thread as incentive to get them posting so they can see what they'll be missing if they dont? I may not be much in terms of leader material, but I am able to spin a decent tale or two, IMHO.

Well that's the thing with 'Cid's Bar'-- we started that thread without this kind of RPing in mind. So, yeah I'm still kind of wondering how we're gonna deal with CB in all the mini-threads. Right now, I'm thinking we might not even need CB as 'homebase' or a thread even, because one) the majority of the mini-threads would END in the setting of Cid's Bar-- because even if the main setting is the Sky Pirate Final Fantasy-esque universe, Cid's Bar is OUR group's mutual setting and two) if we wanted to have a huge event then we can announce it to everyone in THIS planning thread about it and then, everyone would be able to RP in that thread.

for example: Jyuuki's Birthday (All)

• Jyuuki's Birthday is the event's name
• (All) means anyone can get involved if they want

The 'All' threads would be like Cid's Bar but with a plot-line. Like! Currently in Cid's Bar we're about to have dinner via Ferrumo the Chef right? Well if we were using this way of RPing we'd call the thread 'Initiation aka Dinner (All)' then.

But I think it's better to keep it in Cid's Bar because we wouldn't have to go through the trouble of changing it to a mini-thread; we can use it as it is and RP normally. So forget what I said about moving your character to CB when you're done with your mini-threads, each thread will be SEPARATE in all aspects. While you're in Cid's Bar, you're not gonna be thinking about what you did in another thread-- each thread is each thread in itself.

It's sort of complicated even to me still, what with Cid's Bar being there and all... so if you had any ideas about how to deal with Cid's Bar being related with the mini-threads, lemme know. I'm still trying to find the easiest possible way or solution to deal with all of this XDD

The time span between the mini-threads is to be understood chronologically.

okay for example:

The Girl's Night Out thread would be of course at nighttime. The RPing would be done into a time-span of one night, thus the thread would end when everyone would most likely knock out and morning would come. That's one day in your memory.

Now let's say your next thread is First Day of Work, where it could be a morning and an afternoon. It's set chronologically AFTER Girl's Night Out because you started GNO -first- THEN FDOW second. So basically, it all depends on the order of your threads-- if the GNO thread comes before the FDOW thread, you have to acknowledge whatever happened in Girl's Night Out in First Day of Work.

But really, you shouldn't HAVE to acknowledge what happens in your mini-threads with your other mini-threads. Each thread should just concentrate on ONE plot-line and the RP-ing should be done with each post concentrated on dialogue moreso than musings on past events.

To make it simple, I guess you can say that the mini-threads are kind of like filler episodes whereas your home base (in this case Cid's Bar) is the main story/plot/etc.

I'd say just PM them your rough outline-- it'll get to them indefinitely.

Oh and more on the 'Cid starting his bar' idea-- you can have your solo-threads if you want. RP-ing yourself can be a way to give your character growth. :]

Oh no Krisk, too narrow-minded.... exploring Cid's past, his motivations and attitudes towards 'his' girls can be revealed in that thread. It could start out in one scene as a day of work is over, and then a character broaches the topic of Cid's past, story time, yada yada.....It could even be funny if during the tale, another one of yous can break the "flashback" mode and ask irritating questions :teehee:
