Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto series officially wrapped up in the manga on November 24, 2014, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #50. The anime followed suit just a couple of years later on March 23, 2017, with episode 500. The Naruto franchise has since continued with the Boruto series. However, the original story stopped with the conclusion of the Fourth Great Ninja War, a short timeskip, and Naruto's ascension to the position of the Seventh Hokage.

Now, almost 10 years later, TV Tokyo is officially bringing back the Naruto franchise in 2027, as they announced recently on May 19, 2026, during their latest fiscal report announcement.

TV Tokyo Officially Confirms A Naruto Comeback For 2027 To Celebrate 25th Anniversary

In the latest Q&A for its earnings briefings held on May 19, TV Tokyo officially confirmed that a Naruto comeback is on the cards in honor of its 25th Anniversary, which is set to be next year in 2027. While the specifics of the comeback aren't fully clear yet, what we know already is that this comeback is going to be in two forms, with the first being a game and the second being a video project.

“We see the 25th anniversary [Naruto‘s] as the beginning of a new stage, and we have several projects planned to capture that. New projects, including videos and games developed with new partners, are planned for 2027 and beyond.“

A New Naruto Game With A New Partner Will Be Released In 2027

TV Tokyo has confirmed that a new Naruto game is in development. Unlike its previous games, which were made in collaboration with CyberConnect2 and Bandai, this one is going to be made with a different partner. Exactly who is going to be involved remains to be seen. This game is scheduled to release at some point in 2027, but more information about it will be released later down the line.

Historically, Naruto games have always proven to be a phenomenal experience for all the fans such as Storm 4, while the Boruto games that were released in the more recent years were not able to replicate the same heights. A Naruto game that goes back to the roots would be something exciting for all the fans, especially to mark the 25th anniversary. More information about this game should be released by the end of 2026, and fans hope for something that beautifully ties in the story of Naruto and Boruto and, at the same time, potentially even expands the lore of the world in unique ways.

New Naruto Video Projects Are On The Way For A 2027 Release

Most importantly, the new TV Tokyo report confirms that a couple of new video projects are on the way to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Naruto franchise as well. It is unclear as to what exactly these video projects are. This could be a new Naruto anime that is set in the timeskip between the end of the 4th Grade Ninja War and the beginning of the Boruto era. It could simply be a remake, which is also likely, given that One Piece recently announced its own remake and Dragon Ball Super is also getting one around the same time. Naruto, being one of the biggest anime franchises in the world, could potentially be getting a remake of its own, and that would also be incredibly exciting for the fans, as it would breathe new life into the franchise.

The chances of it being a new Naruto movie are also high, and we would be delighted if that were to be the case. Naruto movies have always been huge hits, and since the last one dropped on August 7, 2015, it is time the franchise gets another one and taps into the unlimited potential that it holds.

Naruto's 4 Special Episodes Could Be Released In Late 2026

The video project in question could also simply be referring to the four Naruto episodes that were first promised in 2023. Studio Pierrot and TV Tokyo both advertised these four episodes, but they ended up facing significant delay and have since been on hiatus. No major information has been revealed about these four new episodes since, although recent leaks suggest that they are scheduled to air at some point in 2026. Perhaps, this project has been delayed once again and is now being scheduled for a 2027 release to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Naruto series.

In either case, these four new episodes are coming fans' way soon, be it late 2026 or 2027. These episodes are going to take us all the way back to the pre-Shippuden era of the Naruto series and give us one more look at Team 7 as it was in the past, exploring the ninja world and embarking on various missions. Hopefully, Studio Pierrot delivers this batch of episodes soon, and after all this wait, ensures that it is up to the mark both in terms of story writing and animation.

A Full Naruto Revival In 2027 Is On The Cards

The recent fiscal report for TV Tokyo clearly indicates that even though Naruto ended around 10 years ago, it is still the highest revenue-generating series for the TV station. Boruto, which is the continuation of Naruto, finished second in the year. As such, TV Tokyo has realized that they need to invest in the Naruto franchise more and aim for its revival. This is precisely why a new Naruto game is scheduled for 2027, along with new video projects.

“It's kind of like a prayer. To keep enduring until it comes to be, no matter what. And to those whom that task falls on…Perhaps that is what it means to be a ninja.” — Naruto Uzumaki’s last message, Chapter 699

No matter which way we look at it, it is evident that the Naruto franchise is set for a major revival moving forward, and that is something that we are incredibly excited to see. Fans would absolutely love to see Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the series, collaborate with the TV station and Studio Pierrot to deliver an original anime that continues the story of Naruto following the conclusion of the 4th Great Ninja War, although that is merely our hope as fans.

Another interesting approach would be for them to simply reanimate the entirety of Naruto, this time without fillers, modern animation, and better pacing. The game also cannot be underestimated, especially because Naruto games in the past have been incredibly popular and delivered an unmatchable experience. With the franchise reaching such a huge milestone, fans are incredibly excited to see what they get next year, and the stage is being set for it already.

Unless they reboot and fix the following I don't care!  :hm:

  • Expand og Naruto. Show us how team 7 works and progress. Especially the friendship between Naruto and Sasuke. Because in the og Narutos obsession made no sense. And no Ahura/Indra being the reason also don't make sense because the others weren't obsessed to the lvl Naruto is.
  • Fix the ending of Pein arc. What we got was embarrassing.
  • Erase everything else. The war, the finale. Leave only Minato/Kushina storyline.
  • Respect your own work and your fans. Do not gaslight us and insult our intelligence.
  • Character progression should be respected. Not disrespected and doing character regression/assassination. Example: Sakura

I could write more. But if they don't put even this bare min I will not watch it. That is even if we do get a remake.

Ew they picked the Baryon/Suicide Nuke Mode for their image.

Anyways. Remember Boruto exist because they wanted to keep making money from the Naruto Franchise. It is still, even twelve years later, TV Tokyo's highest grossing anime IP. While they had to cancel/suspend the Boruto anime, the manga has slipped to 50,000 volumes sold, and it is clear to anyone that looks at this franchise; Ikemoto cannot turn this around. Boruto only value at the moment is its licensing fees because its tied to Naruto. So the only way to make money is to go backwards. The biggest complaint from anyone that has even heard of Naruto, is their endless filler. One of the main things people want is for them to do is a Naruto Kai to get rid of them. Of course that removes all their Hinata scenes they made to build up their preferred pairing. If they just continue from the end of the War arc; that won't work because they already did that as filler in the anime to stall while they prepared to adapt Boruto.

The Ninja Storms games were a huge successes, especially for an anime games. That Boruto connections game if not a flop was disappointing compared to their earlier works and that was with the player playing as Naruto for like 75% of the game as well as making it a nostalgia trip as much as they could. Also CC2 had to make an original story for their game instead of adapting the manga like they used to do, that Kishimoto even praised them for because they were able to enhance his story, because there was so little story in Boruto.

A Four Episode Miniseries has taken an extra 3 years to come out.

So this screams that they are tired of Boruto not making money and they want to go back to Naruto. Will they fix anything? Who knows.
