Anyone here want to read Mario

it is up at Mangareader for those who can get it

warning it is seinen and so far full of killing (just for those who said he didn't know how to kill anyone)

I quite enjoyed it but it was very dark

Do I see Saori as a combination between Sakura and Hinata? And Mario as Naruto? And him compensating for being called sexist with the bad-ass girl and have both fandoms satisfied with this Sakura-Hinata combination? I hope I am not too paranoia... O_O

Actually since Mario was originally written before Naruto any similarity would be the other way, Kishimoto condensed the 160 pages he wrote/drew 15 years ago just before he started Naruto to the one shot he did here.

there is a translation of the interview on MangaHelpers that is interesting to read

I actually like this one-shot... I was sad at the end, though. For some reason, I was liking Mario/Saori.

Well, so much for trying to make this as a series. But that's not the point. The point is that it was pretty good. Crazy backstory on that girl. The ending is pretty sad. One funny thing I found is the parallel, but I digress. I was satisfied reading this.

It was an decent one shot. I honestly liked the baseball one better. I guess it's a bit hard to sympatise with the characters because they background it's ratter vague. I think my disappointment is that for an gangster story there is an general lack of shootouts. You know those cool ones at an restaurant were an deal goes wrong and everyone goes guns blazing? But this one shot could actually be an cool setup for an series, were Mario and Saori are one the run from the mafia and they decide to create their own organization and make an stand. Speaking of Saori, she reminds me a lot of an long haired Konan.

As an avid fan of films centered on organized crime, I found this to be a very good one shot. I can see why he was so confident about it, the first couple of pages was such a pleasing start, I'd like to see more.

If I'm honest, aesthetically, Saori's design is similar to that of Hinata. The only difference is the eyes.

Personality wise is easy to think she like Hinata as well, but as explained she acts like that thanks to her previous trauma. It seems her true personality is way different, but since this was just a one-shot we won't get to see how cheerful she truly was. Too bad. And it's not even that she's shy, she chooses not to talk because of her trust issues.

Well, if one thing is clear is that Kishi is actually very serious about the concept of finding and liking someone who is similar to the mother. With this one-shot there's no longer any way to deny it.

I just saw her as another character. A nice tragic one. She has the reason for not talking and yeah, it's tragic. She's scary though because you can actually die rather for comedy. Other than that, it was still good and well, hard to see it can last long, so one shot will just do. Yeah, I do think he's dead serious about parallel creates possibility.

When I think about it Saori actually reminds me of Konan. Quiet, but definitely not shy. It was pretty funny how she introduced herself to Mario with the finger. laugh.gif

She one of those dere types that aren't violent but distant. I remember now, a Kuudere.

Yeah, Konan is the perfect description to connect if we have to. Nevertheless, it's definitely not that similar to Naruto. Kishi probably wants to keep the same writing style but the tone and such will be different (deaths, no mercy, etc.). I enjoyed it.

Yeah it was really enjoyable. I like the the characters and the story was realistic. Though I'd say Mario's fate is ambiguous really.

yup, saori is long black hair conan who is mute. and the reason she look like hinata is her japanese black hair. if she is a caucasian you will see blond hair sakura.

oh and her hair stlye just like kushina

According to the interview, Kishi is definitely fond of those scenarios. But the problem is that he had to condense a 130-page rough draft into a 60-page something oneshot. So I think he decided to scrap that scenario. While it would've been cool to see a scenario like that, I think he wanted to focus more on the characterization which is Kishi's stronger point.

But that said, it looks to be a promising series for him when Naruto ends. It's really interesting to know that he could've very well become a seinen mangaka instead of shonen mangaka. Naruto really was his last bet. And look how that paid off. Fate really works in interesting ways.

Another thing that caught my attention is how his editor said he needed some more experience as a mangaka before writing seinen. This really speaks volumes if you look back at Pain arc. Pain arc was practically bordering on Seinen. And honestly, without that arc, I don't think we would ever know he had potential for Seinen. Those words of his editor really feels prophetic. And now with a big name to back him up and legit proof that he has talent for seinen, I think Kishi's future as a mangaka looks very promising. He could very well be the next Inoue who's successful in both genres.

And oh, good idea about the plot. I could see this being a series where Mario and Saori try to escape the gangster life by living as as a normal civilians with gang heads trying to kill them. I just hope Kishi doesn't add anymore love triangles arg.gif

Implying that it wasnt the chuunin exams that was way more seinen style than Pain's arc.
