Just came across a very interesting rumour. smile.gif

Rumour: Namco vs Capcom, Capcom vs Namco in development

QUOTE (Kotaku)
Those aren't two interpretations of the same piece of news; if Game Informer are to be believed, then two fighting games are currently in development, both pitting the stars of Namco against the stars of Capcom.

Note these are fighting games, not a continuation of the old Namco x Cappcom RPG title that appeared on the previous hardware generation. Why two games? Simple: each company makes one! Capcom would be developing Capcom vs Namco, built on the Street Fighter IV engine, while Namco will develop Namco vs Capcom, which will run on the Tekken 6 engine.

As fighting game fans are already no doubt coming to grips with, this would mean two significantly different games, Street Fighter IV's 2D arenas contrasted nicely with Tekken's more three-dimensional combat.

GI say that Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono is handling Capcom's side of the deal, while it's expected Namco Bandai's Katsuhiro Harada will be in charge of the opposing project.

If this information is good - and there have certainly been strong hints to suggest it is - then the two games' debut trailers will be shown this weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con.

I think this sounds like an awesome idea, especially if both Capcom and Namco can include characters that aren't from fighting games. Mega Man vs KOS-MOS, anyone? biggrin.gif

We'll find out if this is true by the weekend.

Thinking about it, if I were to get one of those games, I'd definitely go for Capcom's version as I like its 2.5D gameplay. smile.gif

I approve. Namco has some of the best IPs I've played.

This should make for an interesting game.

I'm shocked of hearing this. (Though I wanna play NamcoXCapcom... why the hell they didn't release it in the West?!!)

This will be interesting to see: Street Fighter, Megaman and Darkstalkers characters against Tekken, Soul Calibur and Pac-Man!

I have my prediction list ready:

Capcom:

- Ryu
- Chun-Li
- Morrigan
- Megaman

Namco:

- Jin
- Kazuya
- Yoshimitsu
- Siegfried
- Mitsurugi
- Taki
- Nina
- Pac-Man

It does sound pretty interesting, especially the possibility of two games. Hopefully we get some more info soon if true.

Actually, my local magazine said it's not really worth it.

Tekken X Street Fighter was also confirmed, so the 2 games thing is true. Looking forward to them.

And I caught the screenshots of that too. wink.gif Damn it, I thought Nina's rival is Cammy because they're both assassins but they're going by popular and whom came first (actually Nina came in with Michelle when the series started... Namco, please bring Michelle back whatthefuck.gif ! As much as I love Julia, Momma Chang should be in here!)

I would refuse to get a game with such a roster. I will not play any Street Fighter game that does not include Dan Hibiki, nor any Tekken game that does not include Panda. tongue.gif

(I'm actually serious about that. Except for in the Soul Caliber series, I have only ever liked playing the joke characters in fighting games, so if they aren't in this game I won't play it....)

Incidentally, in that trailer... is that supposed to be Akuma, or Kazuya, or some wierd hybrid of the both of them?

You haven't experienced the full cofusion of modern gender relations until you've heard an angry group of women yelling, "We want tentacles!" at an all-night Hentai-fest.

Well, now the roster is just SF and Tekken characters. The trailer... that's Kazuya's Devil powers, guessing Ryu sensed something bad when the moment Kazuya knocked Dan away like a fly.

Well, surely Cammy is hot and good enough for the roster too. sad.gif

Changed the topic title.

Now I'm curious how Capcom and Namco going to pull these 2 games for the gameplay.

Now I can see Tekken characters like Kazuya pull off his Demon Uppercut with the Shoryuken control for the SF version. (His command is back+LP+RK in Tekken, I believe... I don't play him as much)

However, the Street Fighter characters, this one a toughie because we had already seen Capcom's problem back with Arika for the SF EX series. And plus all of the normals for the SF characters now will expanded to Tekken's command list territory (each character from that series has at least over 50 commands of moves). Some SF characters like Zangief can fit, so he can be suitable against King, but what about characters such as Ryu and Chun-Li with the fireball commands?

The game might have to incorporate a new free-flow special system like the upcoming MK9 is suppose to have, on creating new special attacks that can be chained.

I don't know if Capcom or Namco will do that. We're going to have one crossover game with SF gameplay focus (Capcom) and the other is Tekken gameplay focus (Namco). Both have Tag-team, which I caught in the screenshots, though, I think that's the SF version, seen here:

When Namco going to show their version, not sure.

Cool, so the tag team is similar to Marvel vs. Capcom 3?
