I just thought that since there was a thread for the Solar New Year, there should be one for the Lunar one as well (based on the nationality poll, there are quite a lot of Chinese/Asians here)

With Chinese New Year only a week away, Chinatown is busy with preparations (obviously)

So the question is who here is ready for the Year of the Ox?

I would be if I lived there. Which I wish I did badly.

Well I take that back, if I did live there I'd probably be nowhere near ready.

Bah. I have school, and my sister and her bf are in Taiwan celebrating new years with my parents.

So I'm pretty much doing nothing to bring the new Ox year in. I'll definitely usher in the next Chinese new year though, as I'm saving money from my co-op job to go back to spend it with my parents.

LOL, even if you're in an asian neighborhood, mostly everybody's scrambling at the last minute (We're last minute people). It's like Thanksgiving season... @___@ or dare I say... Christmas shopping... but for the asian!

I'm Chinese but I'm not very informed about the New Year and stuff; I actually had to search up the date. sweatdrop.gif It's on the same day as Australia Day! My family's not big on celebrations; we just spend the day like any other. Not much preparations, I suppose, so we're ready to go! happy.gif

I thought its Gong Xi Fat Choi

and yeah, its at the same day as Australian day, give or take a few days and also at the same week as my B'day.

I don't do anything special either, maybe I'll take Lisa to the night market at Belmore Park tonight and have a bit of fun since I don't have night shift today.

If you want the words, it's 恭喜發財which is pronounced as "Gong Hay Fat Choy" in Cantonese and as "Gong Xi Fa Cai" in Mandarin. If you want to literally say "Happy New Year", you can say 新年快樂 which is pronounced as "Xin Nian Kuai Le" in Mandarin.

And PB... Xin Nian Yu Kuai? I'm not quite sure what that means, I might have to ask Cloud, especially since I can't actually tell which characters they stand for with only the pinyin.

I just looked it up. It's 新年愉快 and yu kuai is another way to say happy, delighted, cheerful, etc. So I'm assuming that it is also another way to say Happy New Year though I don't hear it that way much. Then again I'm Cantonese and all I hear is in Cantonese so I can't say much xD.

I just asked my dad and that's what he said too. And I asked him about cleaning up and stuff and he just dismissed it. Lazy bum. So we're good to go! Bring on the Chinese New Year! laugh.gif

XDD.

I'm gonna give my parents a call tomorrow, since it would be the 26th over in Taiwan and wish them a happy new year.
