#982978 The Great Naruto Discussion Thread

Posted by BlueStarSaber on 24 January 2021 - 04:39 AM

My problem with this is how just totally wrong it is. Not just opinion, but factually wrong.

I have so many interviews where Kishimoto expressing how Hinata was never in his headlights; how surprised he was that Hinata was popular and tried to make Sakura more popular by way of making her....more pretty? Whatever. He even said he avoided writing any kind of romance cause he was bad at it.

Point is, all the interviews have him talking about how SAKURA was the love interest, was the main heroine, and more....how he tried to push her.

It was only recently when Naruto the Last was released did he start saying Hinata was the main heroine, how NH was planned from the beginning, and how he pushed them together. It is not a coincidence an d even now he is still on the fence in interviews. It is everyone ELSE putting words in his mouth while Kishimoto remains ambiguous. It is almost like he doesn't know anything. Almost like someone else had to write it.

I never got the try to make Sakura more pretty to make her more liked by Kishimoto. Did he really not know why Sakura was disliked by certain fans and was misinformed why some disliked her by the editors and SP staff or does he really have that shallow view of women and what makes them popular? Because if he did know the reasons some fans disliked her was because:

  1. Her feelings for Sasuke as shallow and don't get why she would still love him after everything that he has personally done to her.
  2. She didn't much fighting or display of her abilities after her fight against Sasori and only got small action scenes afterwards, like when she took out pain's centipede summon.
  3. After the New team 7 arc her role became rather small in the following arcs and didn't get a major part again until the kage summit arc
  4. They are diehard NH shippers and view her as a threat to their ship, so they bash and hate her.

He could of solved these issues by:

  1. Get her to move on from her feelings for Sasuke and clearly show it, by ether show her questioning why she would still be in with him ay this point given what he has done or show more clearly that she is falling in love with Naruto.
  2. Give her more solo one on fights or even proper teams ups, like having her fight Sasuke in the Kage summit arc, take part in the battle against the seven swordsmen like in storm 3 rather than just heal wounded soldiers and play a more active role in Team 7's fights against Obito, Madara & Kaguya. Heck kishimoto wanted to make her more popular he should of looked at 3rd databook were it showed her fight against sasori was ranked 3rd best, only sasuke vs deidara and sasuke vs itachi was scored higher. This shows that enough would enjoy she her in action more.
  3. Have her involved more in arcs like the first half in the war and possibly show her developing her abilities and learning a bit more about stuff in the plot such as the history of the senju, Uzumaki & Uchiha clans, the white zetsus, learn why sasuke joined the akatsuki and get more involed with the jinjurki plotline and how she can help naruto as examples.
  4. If they hate her because she is a threat to their ship, there is no really helping them. He is just going to have to ignore them and focus on developing why Narusaku will happen and why NH & SS won't work and try to avoid any strong teases that these ships will happen at all.

I do wonder if one day Kishimoto will ever come clean of what happened with the ending of Naruto, though that may only happen if Boruto ever finishes and that it becomes clear to shonen jump that it's just not profitable to keep the NH/Boruto canon going

I kinda like that it remains clear that naruto's feeling for Sakura haven't change really, since the story was moving in that direction with more team 7 parraells shown like minikushi and team minato. Though I wish Kishimtoto made it more clear after the Kage summit and we might of avoided, to bad that filler where he says he is in love with sakura to that amazon ninja girl isn't canon.

to be honest, I'm in America and a lot of dudes where I'm from honestly believes that if a girl doesn't like you at first, then f*** 'em. They believe that putting the necessary energy into getting a girl to like you is a waste of time. I notice a lot of people have that same mindset, that if you love a girl and the girl doesn't magically love you back, then she isn't the "one for you" or you shouldn't waste your time. If you love a girl who doesn't immediately love you back and you're actually putting effort into trying to get her to return your feelings, then you're a "simp." I think that's ridiculous. If you love a girl, pursue them. That's how I look at it, and that's what Naruto does with Sakura-Chan. He pursues her, because he loves her and because in his heart, she's the apple of his eye and the one for him. Hinata likes him, but Naruto has his heart set on a woman that he literally looks at as a future wife, he imagines a future with her and has his heart and dreams set on her, any true Naruto fan would realize that instead projecting on him what they think is best for him, just because in real life, they don't have the courage or perseverance to go after the girl they want and don't have the energy to work their ass off to get her to look their way.

Besides, in terms of the romance subplot, killing her off will give them all of the excuses in the world, especially since they love to deny that Naruto loves Sakura-Chan.

"Naruto settled for Sakura only because Hinata wasn't around."

We need him to let her know that he doesn't return her feelings because he's in love with Sakura-Chan.

And I believe Hinata could be a decent character.

This kinda reminds me of this joke family guy did about the law of 80s movies

... which indicates that overall manga market for that period has improved.

In other words, the improvement of sales happens across the other titles as well, since improvement in Boruto sales alone is not enough to prevent Boruto series from getting its lowest volume debut ever.

The analogy is the water level at the river. When it goes up, all boats will also go up.

Ah so it's just more of manga sales in generally more than just boruto getting a boost because kishimoto is back writing the series

Well said, Blue! In all honesty, all of that is really good! I know one thing I would do also as a change is having Hiashi sacrificing himself for the sake of Neji and Hinata in the war, to come full circle from the abuse he gave them and to be a good father for once, allowing for changes to the Hyuga clan as well that needed to be done so that the past could be buried.

Yeah that's probably one change I make and possibly have Might Guy dying from the 8 gates. Also If I had to guess depending on hows it's paced this supposed arc would probably be around 30 to 60 chapters

Naruto wanted to become Hokage to gain everyone's acknowledgement, right? But by the end of the Pain fight, he had already gained the acknowledgment of the village, so I think the reason why Naruto would continue to want the Hokage role is to actually implement positive change, if I remember correctly. Like you said, wanting to change the cruel ninja world. I believe he would have needed the Hokage position in order to achieve that. It would have provide him with the necessary powers, privileges and connections to do it.

I do agree though, one of the major plot lines dropped aside from the romance plot was Naruto wanting to change the system. And how anyone can support this Hinata infested, untied plotlines BS (Naruto not doing sh** etc.). It was evident that wouldn't have happened in the war arc though. Given how disgustingly long the war arc was (literally almost as long as the entirety of part 1), if things had not gone sideways in the last arc, it's safe to say we probably would have gotten one final one to tie up the loose ends, basically Naruto wanting to change the system and possibly competing with Sasuke for the Hokage role/how to best address the system.

Perhaps after the war arc there would have been a short timeskip (one year) to help with the maturity of everyone. Perhaps the after effects of war would have helped with the plot line. If anyone else wants to chime in feel free to do so. I find it really upsetting how all of this was dropped. And people want to defend this ending despite all of this... lmao. How insulting.

My guess if there was to be one arc after the war things to be resolved would be:

The truth of the Uchiha clan massacre would have to be reveled; because there is no way that can remain covered up especially if Naruto wants to get sasuke pardoned for his crimes, since no one knows why he joined akatsuki first place. Plus that leads into Kohonha looking into it's past failures and what it needs to do to reform or they keep making enemies that want to destroy them, The kohona councilors will need to be removed due to their and Danzo' poor oversite. Concluding any remaining side characters plots and arcs, namely the hyuga and hinata's by having her stop try to chase after Naruto and sort out her clan. Memebers of team 7 getting their closing arcs namely Sakura's character arc gets properly resolved on her feelings for her team; mainly moving on from sasuke and realise Naruto is who she really loves, possibly have her unlock slug sage mode since that was teased in the war arc in terms of surpassing her master. If Kakashi becomes Hokage and if sasuke does not fully return to kohona have Naruto and Sakura continue Team 7 in Team yamato with Sai and Captain Yamato until Naruto and sakura finally become either jounin and be ready to lead their own team or fully getting into their future profession, head medic for Sakura & kage in Naruto's case

Taka getting properly resolved, with them staying by sasuke side not orochimaru's and have karin being a uzumaki brought up to Naruto and how that brides the uchiha vs senju/uzumaki clan divide together. The final fate of orochimaru and Kabuto; which would probably at least be the final end for Orochimaru, for Kabuto I can see him being alive but in prison for his crimes not running a orphanage, possibly doing medical work in there to help people rather than harm them. The other 5 nations and how they will keep the new alliance going. The fate of the tailed beasts, which should be freedom, but I can see them under the control of sasuke for the last fight before that happens. Then the final fight with Naruto and Sasuke, as Naruto's tries to prevent Sasuke's violent revolution which would likely just lead to another global war. With the epilogue being Naruto become Hokage surrounded by his friends and family old and new.

For a time skip after the war I think a few months would be better rather than a full years as that might imply more of a part 3.

For Naruto franchise, manga sales accounts for ~80% of the franchise estimated gross revenue (https://en.m.wikiped...edia_franchises).

Naruto franchise estimated revenue breakdown (a behemoth $10 billion franchise):
Manga magazine $6.53 billion
Manga volumes $1.637 billion
Licensed merchandise $1.27 billion
Video games $761 million
Home entertainment $254 million
Anime box office $147.1 million

Every franchise have their own money-generating channel, each channel has its own independent supply chain. For Naruto franchise, that engine has always been predominantly manga. It's no doubt, Naruto was one of the largest franchise SWJ has ever produced --before 2015.

As you can see from the breakdown, anime channels combined (home entertainment and box office movies) contributed to less than 5%.

It is known that anime doesn't generate that much revenue, but it is required for brand awareness.

Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise is worth $20 billion, twice of Naruto's worth. Yet its anime revenue has always below Naruto franchise according to TV Tokyo annual report. Its main revenue stream comes from merchandise. So, for this franchise, it's okay to perform mediocre on anime channel --good enough to advertise for its merchandise to be sold.

Naruto franchise has always been generating revenue through its manga sales. Which explains why before Boruto era, we got one movie per year for this franchise. They have enough to spend to make movies. It's very odd that the franchise didn't produce any movie after 2015, where the market was climbing up. In 2019, anime market value worth twice compared to 2009. One reason might be the producer don't have enough confidence that investing in a movie will yield a good enough return on manga sales.

in regards to the boruto Movie didn't it make 30 million? Most of which I'm sure was due to it be advertise as a naruto and sasuke movie with naruto's son as the lead, but I'm curious on how they ended up with a movie doing well like that then the series revenue's just dropped so fast afterwards. Was it that fans in Japan felt after seeing naruto and sasuke teaming up one last time they is no more point in continuing to support kishimoto or naruto given the way it ended or they saw just how bad the boruto manga was?

They're on my Tumblr pages, I have an old archive of interviews but yeah, Kishi said those things.

Problem is I have over 5000 Tumblr pages and with me becoming more active nowadays, it's even harder to search through everything...

But he said that, he also said something like Sakura is addicted to Sasuke and so many other weird things...

I still don't know how SS fans can say the relationship is healthy after that interview

Yep! From Bon Clay using his Devil Fruit powers on Nami, AND in the end of the Alabasta arc when Nami used her Happiness Punch on Luffy, Cobra, and Sanji.

Wasn't the Bon clay part only in the movie version or at least a more graphic version? Apparently Oda said the happiness punch reaction was because usopp is a bad influence on luffy in sbs 54 for when he was asked about how Nami effected him but boa hancock didn't, see here:

D: Hey, Oda. In volume 53, chapter 518, Hancock's "Mero Mero Mellow" had no effect on Luffy at all, but in volume 23, chapter 213, it looked like he had a reaction to Nami's "Happiness Punch". Why did he respond to Nami's naked body but no to Hancock's? Is Nami's body just that amazing? -Kazu

O: Wow, I got a lot of questions about this. Is this what you guys are paying attention to? Don't just read manga all day, go study some more!! Okay? Well, I say that, but I do nothing but draw manga. I noticed this when we were drawing it, but if Luffy had a nosebleed when he saw Hancock's body, I think you would all be like "Ehh!?". That's not the Luffy we know. I believe that Luffy reacted to Nami's naked body twice, in volumes 18 and 23, and both times it happened, Usopp was with him! He's the suspicious one! In other words, when Luffy is alone, his reaction is what it was with Hancock. He's interested, but he's not entranced by her. But when he's with Usopp, who's the same age, it's like a kid on a school trip: his bad side comes out!! Yeah, both sides of Luffy feel right to me, so the culprit is definitely Usopp!!

Granted it could be a recon on his part since I doubt he had Hancock and her powers planned when Luffy reacted to Nami's happiness punch. Though we may just have to wait and see the next time if the Luffy sees Nami in a similar situation without usopp around, granted he probably get daylights beaten out of him. XD

Anyway besides liking Luffy with Nami the other straw hat ships I like is Franky and Robin, especially this latest interaction in wano when he othered a ride to her

I can answer that for you. There are multiple instances of SP creating filler materials that Sakura is considered ugly. In addition to this, they severely messed up her canon designs and made her part 2 clothes unflattering (they literally changed the lengths) & figure-hiding and her hair awful. We all know Sakura looks great in the manga, but in the anime it's a different story. It is unflattering unfortunately.

Aside from their purposeful butchering of her character design, the first filler it was Konohamaru who called her such (I think it was specifically her forehead). I can't remember if he did so in the manga but what we do know is that in the source material he called Sakura a 'babe' or the equivalent of that when he asked if she was Naruto's girlfriend.

Another instance is Naruto calling Sakura ugly after he woke up or something. He was probably grogy but the point still stands that it is contradictory to the manga. I know, disgusting right? Then there's Sai, but Sai also called Ino ugly, and in Sakura's case she's regarded as beautiful in the manga. I believe that would have just been his own personal tastes. There might be more out there but this is all I remember from the anime.

I seriously f***ing hate Studio Perriot and their adaptation of Sakura. Not only did they fabricate and uplift Hinata who's a minor secondary character and is barely in the manga, they fabricated all of these lies that Sakura is ugly, Sakura is flat-chested, Sakura is a b*** etc. Etc. I cannot with this studio.

It's really easy to pinpoint who has and hasn't read the manga when you see all of the BS people spew. Extremely easy.

I believe Konohamaru did insult Sakura, but I believe the insults were her being a witch for hitting naruto and then wondered if she was even a female after getting a first hand experience of sakura's strength, he did however call her a hottie when he thought Naruto and her were going out. Though I don't know what translation the anime used in sub and can't recall the dub.

Also I'm arguing with a hinata fan when I replied using the hinata trips over a rock pic and the fan used a response that that naruto also tripped but I cant recall when he did that him ever doing that. https://twitter.com/...1906278402?s=19

#982389 Jeremy Bulloch has died

Posted by BlueStarSaber on 17 December 2020 - 10:44 PM

Jeremy Bulloch the man who portrayed bona fett in the original trilogy has died at age 75 today. This is due to health complications after living with Parkinson's disease for many years. The man will be missed but will be remembered for many years to come for portraying one of the most iconic star wars characters of all time.

I myself will miss him as I had the pleasure of meeting him one time at my comic book shop where he was signing autographs, sadly that will now be the only time I will have ever have met him.
