I was never a fan of the "keep someone in line" thing, as if Sakura is a police officer on duty rather than a supportive wife. It would have been better because to me, they have better chemistry. Naruto and Sakura interact well with each other, and yes--we'd get some of the scary mom/tsundere tropes that have been similar Kushina, but "women are gentler with the man they love" so I think she would have been a combination of strict and loving.

The Naruto who married Hinata is not the same Naruto as the rest of the manga. Plain and simple.
I don't think Sakura be a wife who 'kept him in line' — lol, she'd never been able to do it before, marriage would be no different! — but because she's simply not that kind of wife. Instead she'd keep him happy and grounded, and not let him slide into working too hard for an outdated system. She would encourage him to do things his own way, and to break with the past and the status quo to get it done. She would remind him to stay true to himself.
Hinata is such a non-entity, and the only focus of her future has been winning Naruto's love and keeping her family happy. Hinata may encourage him to do whatever makes him happy, but she would also be perfectly satisfied with doing things the way they'd always been done and not upsetting the status quo.
As a mom, I don't think Sakura would be crazy strict like Shikamaru worried about. Instead I think she would be the active mom, doing things with her kids and getting just as messy and dirty and involved as they would. How could a mother of Naruto's children be anything less?! She would not be sitting in the house knitting. And she absolutely would not be in the house dusting.
But the Sakura who married Sasuke is also not the same Sakura as the rest of the manga. So there you go.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did you mean to say "not the same Sakura as the rest of the manga" there?

Fare thee well, Albert, my friend."

Sakura wouldn't keep Naruto in line, she would challenge him. She always challenged him and gave him a reason to be better, get stronger, and persevere. Yes, those were inherent parts of Naruto's character, but I like to think Sakura helped bring those out. She'd do the same thing in a relationship. It's so unlike SS and NH. With SS, you always see Sakura being weaker, submissive, and the same insecure 12-year old we see in Part I. Naruto would lift her up and give her the confidence to flourish. With NH, Hinata would be all too willing to go along with whatever Naruto wanted.
That's just a fraction of the reasons why those pairings are so unsatisfying.

I said this years ago, if Naruto ended up marrying Hinata without her getting a major confidence upgrade, Naruto's life would be a mess, he'd eat Ramen all the time, end up overworking, let his kids run riot and make a complete mess of his life, turns out I wasn't that far off. The reason Naruto needs someone like Sakura is because she's got a sound head on her, she won't let him do anything stupid, She would make sure he got things done effiently, that he'd eat healthy, not get distracted by work, she'd be able to help him with his Hokage duties being a Apprentice to the Fifth Hokage. She wouldn't let him get neglect her and their kids, if that happened she'd storm into the tower and drag him out.
Naruto always goes with his heart first and thinks later, Sakura is brains first then heart, as Iruka (and this site) said Heaven and Earth, They were the Ying and the Yang, where one was lacking the other made up for.

It's so much "keeping him in line" as it is being there to catch him when he stumbles. But yeah, Sakura would definitely have none of that "I don't have time for my son" crap. Granted, that would never even come up as an issue if we were looking at the real Naruto.
Behold! Akame ga Kill's True Canon Pairing!

It's not a matter of who would keep Naruto in line better. It's a matter of who Naruto will listen to and respect more...which has always been Sakura.

I hear that, Tricksie, plus the fact that Naruto was essentially guilt tripped into loving Hinata thanks to that Genjutsu in The Last and all, as well as ignoring the canon history Naruto and Sakura have togrther. Besides, I could imagine too that Sakura would be very active as a mom, especially with Naruto being the dad.

You act different around different people. I personally think she's the more active type and would've been happier helping Naruto with his Hokage duties instead of being stuck in Sasuke's lair making him sandwiches.
