#991079 Did NaruSaku only have a chance because Sasuke was away?

Posted by luans7 on 06 May 2024 - 07:30 PM

I was following a pairing thread on Twitter and saw several fans mocking  NaruSaku  because their relationship blossomed primarily due to Sasuke's absence.

Despite many NaruSaku fans hating Sasuke for being an obstacle to the couple and his return definitively crushing NS's chances.

Ironically, Sasuke was the character who helped NaruSaku the most. Not Sai, Yamato or Minato.

it was only during his absence that Sakura and Naruto started to grow closer, with the goal of bringing him back. The Promise of a Lifetime (POAL) was made, etc.

Along with his entire transformation into a major antagonist force trying to destroy the village, including trying to kill Sakura, which gave the NaruSaku fandom hope that Sakura would eventually abandon her feelings for him and fall for Naruto.

However, this wasn't meant to be. Sasuke returned to help during the war, was redeemed, apologized, and Sakura jumped into his arms, effectively ending NaruSaku.

Here's the question:

In a scenario where Sasuke stayed in the village and continued to develop his bond with Sakura without events like the Uchiha clan massacre, Orochimaru's cursed seal, Itachi's torture, or Tobi's revelation about the village and the Uchiha massacre,

Would Sakura have still developed some kind of bond with Naruto, with Sasuke closer to her like in Part 1? Or is NaruSaku entirely dependent on Sasuke's absence?

SasuSaku was a very strong couple in Part 1, while NS was almost nonexistent. It was only in Part 2 that NS started to gain traction in the story and by fandom due to Sasuke's absence and crimes.

Se Sasuke não tivesse ido para Orochimaru, tenho a sensação de que ele se tornaria cada vez mais uma versão ninja de Rukawa, e o final de Naruto seria semelhante ao de Slam Dunk.

I was watching videos of Minato and Kushina on TikTok, and I always see someone saying they are the best couple in the series and that their relationship is similar to Sakura and Naruto's. It seems like a good portion of the Naruto fandom regrets the final couples and their dynamics. :chuckle:  :chuckle:  :chuckle:  :chuckle:

I never understood why Kishimoto was the only mangaka who couldn't get the romantic pairing he wanted, despite others in the same circumstances having succeeded. Kubo is the best example of this: Bleach was on the same studio as Naruto, and the fans wanted the protagonist to end up with someone else, but Kubo went with the pairing he wanted even though it went against the wishes of most fans.

I thought about the reason and noticed that, between the years 2000 and 2010, female characters in shoujo who had pink hair or a transformation that turned their hair pink usually ended up with a black-haired character. The best examples of this are Tokyo Mew Mew and Shugo Chara!, both of which aired on TV Tokyo.

I remembered that TV Tokyo changed the pairing dynamic of Blue Dragon, which in the game was practically a retelling of Naruto-Sakura-Sasuke, with hints of a Naruto and Sakura pairing. In the anime, the protagonist got a Hinata 2.0, the rival ended up with a random girl, and the heroine ended up with a Sai-like character who appeared in the second half. I have a feeling that if TV Tokyo did Slam Dunk, they would put Haruko with Rukawa and we wouldn't have the Haruko and Hanamichi wedding poster. And if they did a Kingdom Hearts adaptation, Kairi would end up with Riku.

Sakura vs Sasuke?

I think that one was handled really well. it gave us a chance to see Sakura take on Sasuke unlike the anime and the manga.

The manga did better in this regard; the only thing missing were panels comparing Naruto and Sasuke, and in the end, showing Sasuke thanking her and Naruto promising to bring Sasuke back, with her apologizing to Naruto, and an image of Naruto smiling

I guess they had some test audiences that gave it a bad review. So now they have entered crunch to try to fix it. Remember this is suppose to be something that shows the popularity of the Naruto IP to the executives; so they don't pull the plug. If people don't want to watch it due to...lets go something simple the animation is bad, that is a problem.

It could also be they have gotten reports of how unimpressive people were with Boruto part two or the Ninja storm games predicted numbers aren't as impressive as they hoped.

They didn't delay it to improve quality; it was just a marketing move because they didn't want to share the spotlight with the One Piece Live Action, the Shibuya Arc of JJK, and the final episodes of Bleach.

Those who live in countries where Saint Seiya was popular will understand what I'm about to say. Saint Seiya was the most popular anime in several countries, more popular than Dragon Ball for a while. However, at a certain point, it lost popularity, and Dragon Ball solidified itself as the most popular, with even Yu Yu Hakusho surpassing it. What I believe will happen with Naruto is that it will lose popularity in Western countries to One Piece, which will eventually become much more popular. Over time, Naruto will be forgotten, primarily due to the way Jump handles the franchise

I have the impression that Pierrot pays for bots to defend Boruto. This happens because recently there has been a discussion on Twitter that everything in the Boruto anime is canonical, and there are no fillers, based solely on the statements of the writers that everything is endorsed by Kishimoto, which supposedly makes all events canonical. They seem to ignore the fact that Pierrot conveniently erased elements from "The Last" when necessary. Additionally, there is a group of people that appears to be composed of bots, excessively defending the Uchiha family with questionable arguments, and even resorting to using novels that sometimes resemble fanfics.

When I visit the profiles of these individuals, it feels like I've entered a fantasy world, where Sasuke's personality seems to have come out of some generic shoujo anime. The majority of these profiles were created exactly in 2017, the year when the anime came to an end and the couple in question faced a lot of criticism.

That's good that newer authors are trying to break the old trope, but yeah you're right the way Naruto ended left me indifferent towards shipping because I can't be bothered in caring about something that could go nowhere like Naruto and Sakura. Sure they're a very extreme example but it's just the way that I felt afterwards.

But speaking of Oda in particular he is part of the old school and that's why I think he will either go down the traditional route, like his peers did, or if he doesn't want to do that he will just sidestep the pairings issue all together. If I am wrong about that that's cool though, so I'll be satisfied either way in regards to One Piece.

Oda is from the Akira school, so he does what he wants and, if possible, surprises the fans. Just look at his interviews to notice that.

Honestly, I think Naruto ended being a giant self-insert for Kishimoto. His self-insert is basically Sasuke and one of the reasons Sakura ended up with Sasuke was because Sakura is like his wife and him like Sasuke.. Sasuke leaving the village for extended periods of time while Sakura is home with the kid kinda mirrors his own life aka him being at work all the time and never got to go on his honeymoon or spend quaility time with his wife. So having Sakura get together with Naruto would be like his wife getting with another man. So his thing about Sakura being a horrible person if she moved on from Sakura was parrelleling his own life because if his wife left him because of his hectic work life she would be horrible.

I can GO ON about this but I feel like Kishimoto GOT Lucky with this series.

I totally disagree with this statement. I think Naruto resembles Kishimoto much more in this aspect. Everything he dreamed of about his life as a Mangaka was shattered when he became one and saw the responsibilities involved, just like what happened to Naruto when he became Hokage and had to work constantly, unable to spend enough time with his children. The frustrating ending of Naruto may be a way for Kishimoto to vent his own frustration as well.

Pierrot and Jump tried to intervene in Bleach, but Kubo fought with everyone and went ahead with the ships he wanted, even though they weren't the most popular ones. I would have been satisfied if Ichigo ended up with Rukia or Orihime, but I found his attitude incredible because he followed what he had planned instead of what the fans wanted. I may not agree with the author's choice, but I prefer him to do what he planned instead of catering to the fans' desires. On the other hand, Kishimoto chose to cater to the fans' and Pierrot's wishes and ended up destroying the work.

For you to believe that editors don't give advice regarding manga couples, you just need to look for old interviews of Akira, where he said that his first editor and current chief at Jump wanted Goku to end up with Bulma... Oda must be following the same path. Fans don't want him to make Luna happen, but he will do it in the end just because he wants to. That's something I admire much more than him doing what the fans desire.

Kishimoto wanted to convey the entire relationship he had with his wife to the characters of Naruto and Sakura; however, his editors did not allow it. The only way out he found was to express it through Minato and Kushina, which makes him feel so comfortable and happy when writing their story.

Okay here's a bit of fun. and this is optional. Not to mention I know this is not actual data But...

Anyone want to find anime couples similar to Naruto X Sakura and see what Hinata Hierophants' thoughts are on them? One meta (lol) example already brought up is Ryuji and Taiga from Toradora. Although Ryuji is not much like Naruto at all, but still. Gotta know how many actually love Asta X Noelle from Black Clover actually. (I certainly do) the dynamic is pretty similar, minus the Sasuke part of the love triangle.

Hanamichi- Haruko- Rukawa(Slam Dunk) = Naruto- Sakura- Sasuke
