I think you can compare it with the last. Since both of them use red threat of fate trope.

I can see why a lot of women loved the story.

Romance as cliche as it sounds is a genre that will always find an audience because everyone falls in love. Its not a cliche when its happening to you. Women tend to like stories that are romance and are more grounded in our reality where they can see themselves.

Its literally star crossed lovers, mixed with stunning japanese sceneries with rural and modern, likable characters that actually feel like real people, fantasy situations that give a lot of humor and perspectives, and a bit like Titanic with a sense of impending doom looming.

There you have it you have a blockbuster.

I would not be surprised if the americans do their own version except they replace taki with a white man.

And here we go.

I thought it was enjoyable. Had some laughs here and there. Just wouldn't call it one of the best animes of all time- that really is a reach.

I enjoyed the first half pretty well, but about the halfway mark I started losing interest. Basically I just kept going to finish it. I feel it would be nice to watch in a theater for the pretty animation; I might have tried to go see it if it were playing anywhere near me. But I feel it didn't have too much going for it beyond that? I never felt much connection to the characters to really care about them and the plot twist was weak.

It does have the Sleepless in Seatle element of falling in love with someone who you've never met face to face vibe to it, maybe that's why the movie is popular, Romance movies suck nowadays, nothing comes close to the classics of the 80's and 90's.

I wouldn't mind a Western Version, they may even do a better job in making the Male MC be more memorable.

Just thought I'd share a little something I ran into after writing the latest chapter of my book:

tumblr_ojqxe14GOu1v1156jo1_1280.gif

Imagine if Mitsuha had pink hair and green eyes and Taki had blonde hair and blue eyes idk something about that would've been just made me laugh on the inside going well we found NS in a certain way... Still I think the execution of the romance was handled well, and I respect everyone's thoughts on it..  Like my grandpa always said  everyone has their own opinions cause that's reality and it's certainly true.

Still think the movie is beautiful, but it's not perfect. No matter how good a movie is there is always gonna be flaws, and this one certainly has it too.

If I had a bluray player, I'd buy it. The animation is just too splendid to not want to purchase the blu ray.

I definitely do agree that this would have worked better as a TV anime than a movie. There was so much to explore- but the budget for that beautiful animation would have run out.

I just generally have a limit when it comes to suspension of disbelief and general tolerance to plotholes, and Your Name exceeded that pretty much. Such an enjoyable anime, but at the same time my friend and I couldn't help but laugh at the stupidity of certain things. I hated the characters, especially the main character. Underdeveloped and overall cliche. Seen that a thousand times on other animes, and everyone else has, too. The time-travel stuff/ time-disparity was riggled with plotholes. Neither of them has NOT noticed that they have not lived in the same time frame this entire friggin time?! Bawawahahah, I can't, man, I can't. They didn't even try to call each other (and if they had, this entire anime would have fallen apart). A forced romance story that tries to tell us that these two were destined to save the town and are meant for each other when they haven't even really met the other (excluding the physical body swap). They don't even explain the body swap (why do all her other relatives do the body swap? For what purpose? Only her and him make sense). I laughed so hard when he wrote on her hand "I love you" instead of his name. If that is supposed to be romantic, I don't know. He DOEN'T EVEN KNOW HER. I liked the first half of the movie a lot more and had wished that they expanded on that. Definitely would have helped their characters. Lastly, I hated how the relationship b/w the dad and the daughter has not been solved or anything.

Your Name blinds people with gorgeous animation. This movie wouldn't work if the animation sucked ass.

Makoto Shinkai has done better star-crossed lover stories.

I sound like a hater, but it was a pretty enjoyable movie, but I don't understand why people compare Spirited Away with Your Name (they have nothing to do with each other in terms of story).

Anyways, I'm still gonna watch Your Name in the theater when it comes out in the US b/c I want to support the cinematic anime distribution here, and b/c I curious to see what it would look like on the big screen.

Edit: Summer Wars was a fun movie. The family dynamics was the best part about it.

I've seen this movie a week ago and I'm also a bit disappointed considering all the hype this movie was getting. I thought this movie would blow my mind, but it's nothing I've seen before. It's cheesy and cliche because the romance was forced. Somehow they fall in love with each other through the body swap in their dreams, but they never actually meet each other until near the end of the movie. The body swap wasn't  a bad idea, I thought it was a cool idea and unique. It gave them the chance to get to know each other a little bit by experience and living the other person's life through the body swap. The story is good, but, I feel that there still isn't enough development between them in the movie. They live happily ever after just like that even after getting their memories erased. It probably would've ended a bit better and more realistic if they didn't end up together just like 5 Centimeters per second. What are the chances of them meeting again after getting their memories erased? Is it because they were destined to be together and love conquers all? Ok man gimme a break. I'm aware it's only a 2hr movie, but I expected far more for something as hyped as this movie. It probably would've been better if it was made into a series, but we'll never know. The visuals and music were superb, but still wasn't enough to blow me away. It's not a bad movie at all, I gave it a 7/10. I just expected more from it.

It's about the same time in the UK, (Not sure I want to pay £25 for it though) I was hoping they'd announce the 4K Blu Ray for western release as well (I'd pay £25 for that). I don't own a 4K TV yet, but I do have a Xbox One S, (probably will buy the One X as well) and I am planning on buying a 4K TV sometime over the next 12 months, and I really want to watch this in 4K with HDR.

Definitely a 4K experience for Your Name would just be absolutely beautiful to see.

I'm looking forward to it....

Plus I was at my local bookstore earlier today and they were giving these away for free, and there was like more than 20 of them so I decided to get one for myself:
