i wanted to make this thread to talk about the recent avatar comics imo they serve as an ok gap not great between the original and lok ive felt that some characters lost big development especially ursa but what are your thoughts?

Yeah, the avatar comics really fill in the gaps - in some surprising ways. Like how Ursa came to be with the Firelord in an arranged sort of way (if I remember correctly) and not a love match among nobles (like Zuko and Mei). Reminded me of how surprising the plot twist was around Kushina being a jinchuriki.

 

Would love to see more official works from that series/universe, even if it's just online.

I think smoke and shadow was judg released. I just checked randomly now and it seems part 1 came out yesterday. I hope I can find it online somewhere.

yes it was hopefully ursa can redeem herself from the search cuz she chose to forget her children because ozai made her life hell

I've really enjoyed them so far. They fill in gaps and capture the spirit of the series. Also, plenty of Aang Katara to go around. 

 

Honestly, I kinda wish it could be animated.

yeah its a better love story then nh but then again any love story is better then them except for sasusaku

they actually were gonna make the search comic into an animated movie if bryke didn't get the green light to do 3 more korra arcs

OK, there is some weird ship switching in these books. Are they considered canon, or just idk, semi-canon? I thought Meiko would go back together because at the end of B3 it was clear how much they treasured eachother. Now they're just a casual ex-couple. In this comic, Mei even suspected Zuko was turning into his father for a second. Even though he let Azula get out, it was OOC that Ty Lee thought they'd be more to it, but not Mei.. Mei who now has some filler boyfriend? And something is fishy about Zuko, and --- Suki. wth. I wonder how this goes, but I liked the simplicity of the pairings in ATLA. Now the ships have all just switched around, which is just weird. I hope Bryke had no hand in this.

 

The conflict is nice tho tho. At least the idea of it. It was to be expected, and I like how Mei's dad is not completely evil. I wonder what those 'spirits' are, if they are spirits at all.

thoughts

I like how the story is going. The whole new Ozai supporters are good. It's good that Mai's father isn't 100% evil. I also liked that Aang and others weren't around, which showed that Zuko can take care of things on his own. Now on some points!

1. I laughed how the enemies (especially Mai's father) kept calling Zuko a weakling. Yet he took them all down with a single move. All blazing while doing it.

2. It seams Mai has moved on from Zuko (by the end of this chapter at least). Her letting her father go. It seams they are building towards Zuko vs Mai in the future imo.

3. Zuko's little sister was really great. It's nice that they get along so great. It's also normal that she has some trust issues with Ursa since she changed her face.

4. For some reason Ursa's hands are cold. This was referenced several time in this chapter.

5. It seams Ursa has some major problems with returning to her old home. Imo in one moment she reminded me of Azula.

6. It's nice that both Ursa and Zuko are worried about Azula. With Zuko saying, she'll be fine. She is a survivor.

7. Iroh was great as always!

8. The new spirits seams really interesting. It seams they support Ozai's way over Zuko's when it comes to ruling.

9. For some reason Zuko's little sister used Azula's nickname for Zuko "Zuzu". And said she wasn't afraid, because Zuzu would keep everybody safe.

10. Romance! For some reason Zuko and Mai are no ex. Mai has a new boyfriend. And there were some Zuko/Suki hints. Have no idea why. I just hope this series want become about romance. Ugh....

 

That's at the top of my head. If I remember something else, I'll post my opinion! xd

I'm not crazy about all the shipping stuff either. I *think* this stuff is canon and has been approved by Bryke. I'm not sure how I feel about it. One thing I like about ATLA is that romance isn't the focal point. That's definitely part of why I'm hesitant to watch LOK so I hope it remains only a part of this comic. *shrug* I like Iroh, but it's too much Fire Nation

yeah plus zuko and mai are gonna be together again soon but my favorite part was this page right here btw i told grey delisle that her group is better then the akatsuki lol

I'm glad the next comics are getting away from Zuko's family drama.
