I always took it as something for her to be strong, and not let Sakura advance in life and Ino to be simply watching. They were rivals and best friends, and Asuma probably knew if Ino ever had insecurities when it came to their relationship. In my opinion, he wanted Ino to become a better ninja and reach her full potential. 'Losing' to Sakura isn't necessarily being inferior to her, but rather not letting her be the only one that's made something out of herself. Sakura has already advanced far into her abilities and has grown substantially from what she once was. Ino has lost in their rivalry by not growing as much and probably by not having the same confidence in her abilities as Sakura does.

In love is not over the same guy. They were love rivals before; fighting over Sasuke. Asuma does not want Ino to find somebody first, or to win in a love triangle. What I think he's trying to say is he doesn't want Ino to lose to Sakura in love by not finding it. It could even hint he foresees that Sakura has a love-life going on, and wants the same for Ino.

I find it more a fatherly want. Be strong and be happy in love. However, being her sensei he puts it in terms that she will understand while still treating her with the relationship of a sensei. They are ninja who fight one another, so I thought it would be a good comparison for him to make. Don't let your rival and friend get the best of everything. You can be just as successful in life too.

I definitely think that Asuma just didn't want Sakura to find love while Ino didn't.

My inner fanboy of crack pairs with Naruto and different girls says w00t.gif w00t.gif w00t.gif at the idea of Ino starting something with Naruto to make Sakura jealous. cool.gif

Nothing serious of course! Just to give Sakura a nudge in the right direction! NaruSaku 4 Lyfe! danarusakunp3.gif

I just figured it was his way of telling Ino to grow up and fall in love with reality and not a dream. Which is what I see Sasuke as, he's a dream, an image of the perfect man for teenage girls, strong, handsome, kinda broken, a bad boy, and mysterious.

Maybe once Ino falls for Shika or Cho, Sakura will also look beyond the outer shell and admit her feelings for Naruto...it could happen....And Kiba seeing Choji get the girl get the confidence to ask Hinata out only to be beaten to the punch by Shino..lol
