That was amazing, I'm really looking foward to it. BTW, wasn't the elder cat dubbed by the same guy who did Zeus in God of War?

Don't know, never really got into the whole God of War thing. I just want to know where Panthro was.

Actually, I don't think this version looks all that bad. The original would never have worked if it had been kept as campy as it was, or if the storyline followed exactly the same old one (simply because you couldn't seperate the two). The only thing is I didn't see Snarf anywhere; as silly as he was, he was central to the old story, and should be there (similar to how certain characters showed up in the He-Man remake even though they didn't quite fit in a serious take of the series).

Edit: Or Panthro, now that you mention it. A few others, too, might have been missing -- I was only focused on looking for Snarf.

Meh, never watched it when I was a kid--I'd always change the channel once the opening was over. Liked the song, wasn't interested in kitty-people jumping around with swords.

Might be bringing up an old discussion, but in answer to Jenskott's comments on age mattering: --Click here to view--
I really don't think it does. It sounds like the common example being used is that those who didn't watch the cheesy shows as children most likely won't enjoy them when they're older because they're viewing it from a different perspective, right?

Then what about people that watch it much later in life and do enjoy it? All of my female friends watched Sailor Moon religiously as a child while I watched DBZ. Once I graduated high school I sat down to watch SM and loved it. One of those same female friends recently got into DBZ with her boyfriend and she's more of a fanatic for it than I ever was as a kid.

So...I don't see how age factors into it at all. Granted, kids are more likely to watch whatever's in front of them when they're younger and still hold nostalgic feelings for it when they get older, but that doesn't mean they like the shows just because they're young.

//my two cents

I was never really big on Thundercats, back in the day Inspector Gadget and Heathcliff were my faves (my mom still teases me on how I had a crush on Penny!). That being said, I did see a few episodes on Toonami, and I thought for what they were they were pretty cool (I always dug the ending credits, with the guitar and trumpet and the growl at the end); just make anything with humanoid-feline features and I'm sold.

And everyone, please calm down about it being a remake. It might not be that good, but you don't have enough to go on how it may be bad. Every series, in terms of appealing to a new audience, has an expiration date, and while the main motive is to make money, I'm sure the writers behind the project were once fans who want to bring the show to a new generation. Not to mention, especially since the mid/late-nineties, writing for action cartoons has been taken more seriously (even for the more kiddish ones). With Young Justice currently airing (haven't seen it, but heard great things about it), and Legend of Korra and Ultimate Spider-Man coming up, I think we can look forward to a lot of great animated series in the future, and this will be no different.

You also have to remember nostalgia and your child-hood mentality does cloud your judgement. Back in the 80s, most cartoons were quite gimicky; as the 90s progressed cartoons of this genre generally had some fairly well-written stories, more compotent heroes and villians, more mature themes and more intense action.

Take the new TMNT for instance. Everyone complained when it first came out about how bad it was. However, most didn't seem to realize how bad the original cartoon was. Even when I was younger, it irritated me to no end how it was supposed to be "NINJA TURTLES", and the turtles hardly ever used ninja skills throughout the entire series; as I recall, one of them always had to grab some kind of demutagen ray. Not to mention how you could appearently defeat a ninja master by force-feeding him anchovies. I also really couldn't differentiate the turtles personalities. Sure, you had some faint hint about what each turtle was about, but each would randomly yell cowabunga and loose their s**t over pizza. The new one had much more intense and well-choreographed action, each turtle had a distinctive personality (especially Raphael) and when relying on other sources to defeat enemies, they usually aren't terribly out of place and not until the turtles put up the best fight they could.

So, watch a few episodes of the remake, then look back at the original now that you're 20+ years old. You'll have a much better perspective then.

Kushina, please, read again my former post. Especially this part:

QUOTE
And sometimes you watch an older show and you love it, in spite of you didn't watch it back when you were a child.

You are preaching the choir here. I very much enjoy old Japanese and American cartoons. I like some seventies shows way more than I could love any current series...

But I also am aware some there are some shows I remember fondly from my childhood but it is likely if I watched them nowadays I would ignore them. And I am very forgiving of flaws of older shows I used to watch whereas I am not so forgiving of current shows' flaws (and sometimes I watches current shows and I spot mistakes old shows didn't commit. Or thing older shows ACTUALLY did better).

Of course one person can enjoy things he/she didn't like or pay attention to when he/she was young, or older things. My older sister watched and loved Mazinger-Z and Battle of the Planets when she was a child. I hadn't been born yet when they were being broadcast, but when I got the episodes, I loved them more than my sister ever did. And I have showed my six-year old nephew episodes of those shows, and he likes them (but I am sure he won't love them so much like the shows he actually watches on TV, or how his mother did).

Buuuut another people don't and won't like those shows not matter what.

Mm... I am really not sure of what point I am trying doing here. I think I mean age IS a factor, but I agree it isn't the only factor, and people can appreciate older shows reagardless their age or childhood memories. And sometimes, if you tell an older show is better, it is NOT nostalgy talking and befuddling your judgement.

Regardless, we will see how the new Thundercat show will be. What a show is being made in 2011 doesn't automatically mean it will be better or worse than a show done in 1985 (I don't remember the exact year. I am sorry). Plotwriters can be just so good or so incompetent in the 10's as in the eighties.

Saw the pilot for the reboot today (Tivo-delayed; Actually, am seeing it as I start this post, but will be adding to the post as time goes on).

First reactions --Click here to view--
First impressions: I like the 'new atmosphere' of this reboot. Takes away some of the unintended cheese from the original. Not so sure about the idea that 'technology' is forgotten -- poor word choice more than a bad concept (after all, using a rock to sharpen another rock is technology, albeit primative technology).

Some of the voices make me think of other people. Lion-O, in particular, reminds me of Jaster Rogue from the video game Rogue Galaxy (same actor has done several other things I've seen, like in Batman Beyond (Terry\Batman) or Teen Titans (Control Freak) but he intoned more like the Jaster Rogue character than any of the other ones I remember him doing). Groon (wasn't he an ape-man in the original?), of course, reminds me of Lex Luthor from Justice League. Makes me have certain expectations for how these characters will develope.

Has Tigra always been a part of the royal family\Lion-O's brother? I don't remember that from the original....

I'm starting to wonder if Snarf is non-verbal in this version. I thought he spoke off-camera once, but later decided that was someone else.

Cheetara's hair makes her seem a little... um... 'dirtier' perhaps?

Wait, Mecha? Uh, WTF? There were some psuedo-sci-fi elements in the original, but I don't recall mecha-style power armor being a part of it. It's actually a very interesting moment, but it's not what I was expecting. Edit: Re-watched the trailer after the show. Forgot about this part being in the trailer; somehow, it didn't bother me as much at the time. Ah, well.

Boy, I love hearing that "Thundercats, HO!" (from the original voice actor, too, playing Lion-O's father) again. Sad they're killing him off right away, but that was expected. (Still hoping he'll return as a ghost, like Jaga did in the original, but probably not)

Calling himself evil? Then calling on "Ancient Spirits of Evil," huh? Well, I guess it's okay that it hasn't gotten rid of the whole 'their is a whole empire of people out there INTENTIONALLY serving Evil, WTF?' Unless they explain, later on, that Mum-Ra isn't thought to be evil by everyone (even if he does call upon the power of Evil) that's one bit of the cheese from the original I wish they'd removed, or at least toned down.

Wait, it ends there? Uh... wow. That was more sudden than I was expecting. Wily-Cat and Wily-Kit were introduced, but while we all know that they'll wind up being good guys, we haven't yet had an explanation for their presence in the pilot. The question of whether Panthro still lives remains open (this would be fine to leave to a future episode, mind, but combined with W-C and W-K's current lack of plot-relevence, it gives the impression of the show's being cut in the middle, to me).

So far, despite a few niggling complaints, I like it. I want to see how the story develops, going forward, however -- it didn't go far enough into the story to say for sure, yet.

Watched the first episodes today finally, and I have to say I loved it. I was a fan of the original series and I still remember having the old Lion-O toy. Either way, I'm actually really excited by this fresh new take on the Thundercats.
My opinion of the Thundercats Remake --Click here to view--

First things first, Thundara and Third Earth are the same place that is Third Earth is the planet and Thundara is a city a major city on Third Earth. Interesting switch. If anyone recalls, in the original the Thundercats were fleeing from their dying home planet of Thundara. They were under attack and eventually had to make the pilgrimage to Third Earth. A good part of the opening episodes were about them scrounging and taming the land eventually making their own Cat's Lair. The remake differs greatly from this they already have an established kingdom on Third Earth and the Thundarians were the ruling hierarchy.

Different, but I like different. This different feels good. I think they made the characters a bit more believable and in some cases likable. Lion-O despite being a Prince doesn't really come off as an complete arrogant a$$. Funny enough that role seems to be reserved for his adopted brother Tygra. (Another major change from the original series.) But the new Lion-O, is very approachable. He's part dreamer/part visionary. His personality is a stark contrast to the original version.

Not to mention, he's already grown! No boy-child that got was transported to adulthood through the time suspension capsule. Actually this is a difference I'm glad they did away with. It didn't make sense in the original series, especially since the Wildly Kittens weren't affected by the time change as well. And the original series never explained the fact anyway. Either way, another difference that I'm glad they decided to ignore.

I was reading on the Wiki site, that the producers of the remake wanted to give the newer show a more cinematic feel oppose to a basic Saturday morning cartoon. And I think they pulled the effect off with flying colors. For some reason I felt like it was more like watching an animated anthromorphic version of the Lord of the Rings.

Basically saying I'm looking forward to next Friday. ^^

I grew up with Thunder cats, I loved it in the 80's and this remake was wonderful. Their new designs were nice and fresh with a hint of their original costumes. Also I love that they look more cat like with their fur and the growling. The same sound effects for the sword of omens were there which was sweet! I was so thrilled that Lion-o's original voice played Claudis, it was epic to here Larry Kenney say hoooo!! Over all I'm super please with the remake and I see it being a instant hit with this new generation. My whole family sat down to watch the premiere, never did I think I'd watch a new breed of Thunder cats with my son over 25 years later biggrin.gif

Since most of us have seen the first, (technically first two episodes) and are eagerly awaiting Friday for the next installment, I was wondering if anyone had any predictions or anticipations of things they'd like to see in the series. From what I've read so far the series is only going to be about 13 episodes long. Honestly I'm gladden for that. I think syndication is what killed the He-Man reboot a few years ago. I think 13 episodes is nice, because we get a good sampling of the new show without it wearing out its welcome.

Plot predictions *spoilers* --Click here to view--
One thing I'm going to take a stab at, I don't think Panthro is dead. I'm thinking he's captured somewhere and will be revealed in later episodes. I'm very interested in seeing how the Thunderkittens will eventually join up with the group. I'm also going to put myself down for Lion-O/Cheetara shipping. Granted I know some people don't care about those things and just want to enjoy the show for what it is. But it makes it more fun for me. ^^

It seems like is going to follow along standard plot for the first season, so we'll have everyone team up and then try to find the Book of Omens. Followed by the end of the season where Lion-O fights this.

Maybe Spoiler/One of my Ringtones --Click here to view--

Does anyone like Snarf like talking? Or do you think they add it for kicks later on?

But yeah, we need the shipping, first series left that open. And the Best part of the episode you never had to deal with the wormhole aging that didn't make any sense with the Wileys.

I was actually pretty surprised by how young and smexy Cheetara was, since she was more of a 'motherly' figure to Lion-O in the original series. So, I am also rooting for sum smexy funtimez Lion-O/Cheetara action in this new series, especially since it looks like it's already headed that way =3

The action was pretty kickass as well! =D

Just got finished watching this week's episode. Have to say it was, Ehhhh...Ok. But didn't have such a strong impact as the series opener. I want to put on file by saying I think the Wilykittens are completely hilarious and adorable.

My two cents about this week's episode --Click here to view--
Lets see about this week's episode. Formulaic wise I understand partially some of the IC motivations by Lion-O, but it was honestly weird. I mean this week we see almost a complete opposite of the well-meaning, dreamer from the first episode. I figure he's got to be under immense pressure. I mean he just lost his entire kingdom, had his father murdered right in front of his eyes, learned that something that was closest thing to the devil on Third Earth has arisen and not to mention the kid's solely responsible for the future of the few remaining survivors of his people. Spelling it out like that, plus the fact he's still a teenager, it's an understandable drive for his rage. And the whole Moby kitten vehicle used to see how badly obsessive rage can cloud a person's mind was a nice way of demonstrating it to him.

But even still I had to say it was odd watching this week's episode. It was like Lion-O and Tygra switched roles. Lion-O was the rude arrogant one and Tygra was more sympathetic. I'm just glad Lion-O was able to pull his head out of his arse and see how bad things were going. I first knew there was something wrong when he completely dismissed the Wilykittens. A sidenote on that. Did anyone notice a bit of hero worship from Wilykat towards both Lion-O and Tygra? I mean it's understandable. Growing up in Thundara, to little children, being around the princes of your kingdom must be completely awe inspiring. It's kind of cute in a way. I like to see how the new Wilykittens interact with our heroes.

I think the most shinning moment in the episode is the knowledge that Jaga is both alive and apparently knew the location of the Book of Omens. I now have to wonder if he already knew the locations, why didn't he inform Claudius of it initially when Grune and Panthro went out searching for it. I'm guessing it has to do with some sort of destiny. That probably Thundara was supposed to fall or maybe Jaga knew Claudius wasn't the King that was supposed to receive the book. But now Mumm-Ra knows the location. So stormy weather is in store for our heroes. I understand that this episode was more about character motivations and development opposed to extending the plot. The most plot worthy moment in the episode was the events involving Jaga and meeting the Kittens.

I think one of the best cool moments of the episode was when Lion-O got swallowed up and then the next moment you see the sword of omens cascading down the monster's side with Lion-O emerging. I found myself shouting outloud at that part. Another interesting note, I've been watching the older episodes and one the things they note was that the Sword of Omens wasn't able to be used to commit murder. It's power was extended to self-defense and the defense of others. I make the comment because in this episode we see Lion-O chasing after and attacking the Sea-Monster wantonly. The original Sword of Omens wouldn't have played that. Anyway, just something I noted.

Last but not least. My Lion-O/Cheetara watch. Nothing promising this week. Honestly Cheetara didn't have much of a role except being shocked at Lion-O's behavior. Her and Tygra kind of took a backseat this episode. Hopefully now that our boy has his head back on straight, we'll see some progression.

Overall, decent episode but I hope they start picking things up a bit. They had really good momentum from the first episodes, I hope they haven't peaked there.
