If you can't fight with them verbally, you have to do it physically XD
Let's just say I got into a bigger fight than usual and I ended up telling him in the end: "And this is why SS fails..."

Unfortunately for us, "Naruto" is the story of Sakura redeem Sasuke. In here, Naruto is actually the third wheel. He is not the main character to his own story. He's the character in love triangle shoujos who loves the main girl and just wants her to be happy. Its interesting to note that the chinese name of the Naruto series is "火影忍者" basically directly translated into Fire Shadow NInja, or Hokage Ninja, so not even "Naruto". Sigh. This is one of those feelings where you lose an argument, you understand the proper perspective, but you also understand the kittentiness of it.

So I have not taken any classess on Japan or on Japanese culture, so excuse me on this, but is this the kind of culture they have? Women falling in love and staying in love? Is that what is expected? I know there are plenty of strong females in other Mangas but I'm trying to think of a female that has declared her feelings at the beginning and then given up on them at the end. Or maybe it's a culture in the shonen world. I don't know. I'm trying to work through all of this in my head.
i don't have to be japanese.. hell i don't even have to be a woman to know that's utter bullsh**. the japanese are not aliens.

i think 鸣人 (naruto's name in chinese) doesn't sound very attractive so they used 火影忍者

I don't know. In general, I tend to be pretty dissapointed with Japanese romance. I played through Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Xillia thinking I was going to see a good romance between the male and female leads, but got nothing in the former and a massive let down in the latter (despite there being no non-plot-contrived reason for Jude and Milla NOT to get together). Same goes for JRPGs in general, although I was impressed with Tidus x Yuna in FFX.
In most shounen series, the mangaka doesn't know what he's doing as far as the romance subplot goes, thus usually gives an open ended ending (Soul Eater, Kekkaishi and Prince of Tennis are good examples). And now I see why. Kishimoto went against trend and gave us canon pairings and wow, he did such a sh*tty job doing that that I wish he had never done it at all. Had I known he was this bad at romance, I would have preferred he go the One Piece route and not include any at all (not even ship-teasing).
It's like Kishimoto has never even talked to a woman before, much less consumated a relationship with one. I'd love to know what his wife thinks of that comment about Sakura being a terrible person for falling in love with Naruto. Or maybe we'd had it all wrong and his relationship with his wife is more or less SasuSaku (his wife being a mindless fangirl). I guess that in Kishi's mind, that would make him Sasuke, which explains the amount to which Kishi has obsessed over this character. Sasuke is really just a self-insert wish-fulfillment character after all.

Sakura redeem Sasuke? she had small part in it, the one who did most of the redeeming was NarutoUnfortunately for us, "Naruto" is the story of Sakura redeem Sasuke. I'm not saying that they are aliens, but that some times values are different in other cultures.
sorry for the rude response, but the woman idea was so absurd that i couldn't help myself. ino, rin (unfortunately), and tsunade (arguably) are some examples of women who moved on.

And whoever was saying gossip girl and buffy don't represent the US I would actually argue that they do... in a way. Not that everyone falls in line with those shows, but what we, in pop culture, place value on.

If you actually want to see a romance story that was made for kids and parents in the US your best bet is Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. It's 1990's glory, although by the end of the 4th season it gets to be a bit silly. The first season is all about a love triangle between Lex Luthor, Lois Lane, and Clark Kent.
Smallville is similar but it drags on for so long that you might as well just watch the final few seasons.
Modern wise I'm not sure what I'd look at, the US is kind of in a dark place culturally. Walking Dead is probably the biggest pop culture cable show at the moment, and that's a straight our post apocalyptic story with little romance, although there are people that want Carol and Daryl to bone really bad.

This irritates me. We understand those themes. We just think the presentation and execution sucked. I get the forgiveness theme. I get that it came at the expense of everyone's credibility.
Accountability? What the hell is that?
I hear that, Nate. It just is sad Kishimoto-sensei didn't have as much follow through as his idol, Akira Toriyama-sensei.
Ummm.... I'll have to get back to you on the accountability issue though.

You wanna know the funny thing about this? Somehow, Sakura crying on the battlefield, getting her ass kicked all the time, always needing to be saved doesn't make her terrible, but falling out of love with a dude she fell in love with for no reason whatsoever does. Not a sane one this Kishimoto fellow is.

Kishi thought that if he give the fans what they want(to be realistic NH and SS put together are bigger fandoms than ours) and automatically making more money he believed that everyone will be happy.I do not think he realized what message he sends with theat stupid end.no author will deliberate send a mesaje like theat.I believe that he was the too naive and did not think of the repercussions.

Naruto manga represents Japanese culture as much as Buffy the vampire slayer represents United States.
Oh and those sh*tty Japanese romance represents Japanese love life as much as Gossip Girl represents all the love in US.
Dammit.
I was reading up on that to better understand my neighbors. You mean to tell me they aren't undead or hunt the undead? Well, there went years of research.
