For a while now, I had been planning on rewriting everything from chapter 693 to chapter 700. Had planned to release all the chapters at once. I had managed to rewrite 693 and 694 and was working on 695 today until I stumbled across Kishimoto's interview about him only making NaruSaku moments to mislead readers. Now I can't seem to write anything whatsoever. I don't want to promote this series in any fashion whatsoever. Honestly, I'm so disgusted right now that I never want to have anything to do with this series again. I had planned on referencing the various NaruSaku moments, resolvin their relationship, making Sasuke's redemption make sense, tying up all loose ends and bringing everything full circle as well as touching up on all the themes of this manga. But to see crap like that said . . . I just don't care anymore.

Is anyone else feeling this way?

Tbh LadyGT's After The War, and writing my own take on 699 help motivates me to write NaruSaku. Even watching Road to Ninja helps motivate me as well. It'll take more then Kishi's words to put me down.

I feel ya, 100% Right now I'm pretty much done with Naruto in general. At first I was upset that NS wasn't canon but then things just started getting worse, and worse, and worse. Now everything that comes out of Kishi's mouth is one insult after another. He's really destroyed Naruto and Sakura for me and he doesn't care, nor does he care that people like us fell for his "trick" that was their development. Now part of me just doesn't care, and I don't feel bad about not caring. I actually feel free, like I can devote my time to other things I love. I've looked over my notes that I have for my NS fanfic but nothing comes to mind, because right now, at this very moment, I feel nothing, no anger, happiness, or even bitterness, towards NS, I just feel empty. I never write when I'm feeling like that, because people will be able to tell, and I don't want to upload something just for the sake of uploading.

I said I'd finish what I started with my fic, and I meant what I said, but I'm in no hurry to get back to working on it. Keep in mind I still ship NS, they are still my OTP, but right now the fandom is so toxic, and I don't want to surround myself in that. I went ahead and started writing another fanfic, one that's not Naruto related and I loved every minute of it. I haven't felt so excited about a story in a long time :3 I think you should take a break and try something else if anything. you might see that you'll feel better afterwards. I hope this helps :D

I'm working on an ending fix, starting from the end of the battle, but honestly I've had the hardest time with Sasuke. In the manga, he has one moment of change, with Naruto on the battlefield, and then he's back to being his awful careless self. So when I started writing it, I realized that would be something that I'd have to address. How does he move forward? How is his character resolved? It's been a pain.

My other fics are so in my head though, once I start to reread them I forget about the stupid manga and how wrong it was, and I see the ending of my fanfic and how right it will be for the characters. So really, it's been a little bit of a relief to know that there are other versions of Naruto and Sakura, where they love each other and will have a happy ending, and it's guaranteed. It's not Kishimoto's story, so he can't screw it up.

This is why I sought to start with chapter 693. Sasuke's change makes no sense. It's utter bullsh-t. In order to make his change make sense, you not only have rewrite the ending, you have to rewrite the fight too and the prelude to said fight. The way I had intended to do it (which I'm happy to point out since I've given up on finishing this fic), it was going to involve bringing this series themes full circle.

During my version of the fight, Sasuke has an overwhelming advantage (rinnegan + the power of all nine tailed beast, Susanoo'o with Itachi's sword of totsuka and yata mirror, etc) and has more or less prepared well enough to shut down everything in Naruto's arsenal. A fight Naruto should by all means lose (and comes awfully close multiple times), but doesn't after a long hard fought battle tactical battle. What gives him the edge this time is him remebering what true strength is (the willingness protect those you care about). Something he's only able to remember after Sakura gives him the ultimate pep talk, makes him remember his promise and rightfully calls him out for all that earlier nonsense about him and Sasuke having to die together (seriously, how the hell is he keeping his promise by acknowleding he will die if they fight again? One of the most OOC moments in this manga). He comes realize that he lost the previous fight because he got too caught up in wanting to save Sasuke for himself as oppossed to the people who give him strength in the first place (i.e. Sakura.) Long story short, Naruto beats Sasuke by the skin of his teeth (none of that blowing each other's arms off stuff, but a clear definitive win on Naruto's part), proceeds dragging him back to the leaf village like he said he would. On the way back, after talking with naruto, Sasuke comes to understand why he lost despite having an overwhelming advantage. Naruto had the strength of everyone he wanted to protect coursing throughout him (during the fight, I'd probably even have him seeing faint images of Sakura and Kakashi lifting Naruto up when it looked like he had been beaten) whereas Sasuke fought alone. Naruto has bonds; Sasuke has nothing. Sasuke concedes realizing that his way is weaker than Naruto's; that he can't make the world a better place on alone. Him losing the fight in spite of his advantages is the ultimate proof of that.

With this sort of resolution, I think it's okay for him to return to his old careless self, but not quite in the way we see in the manga. Rather, first off, no amount of asspull talking from Kakashi and Naruto is going to get Sasuke off scott free for his crimes. Rather, the way I see it, the reformed Sasuke decides to leave the village after Sakura has healed him and after him and Naruto have undone the infinite tsukiyomi. But not for some meaningless self-exile, but for a much greater ambition. Regardless of him losing the fight with Naruto, he's still serious about wanting to change the world; as of now, he's simply agreed to amend his methods. The way I see it, this involves him going under the radar, starting his own vigilante organization (with Taka as the base), perhaps serving to accomplish the goals Naruto cannot accomplish as hokage.

To be honest, I can't even like the new Naruto and Sakura. I don't even like NaruSaku when I see them as adults. The Naruto and Sakura I loved are gone, and it's disappointing.

@throughwithlove - I really like your idea. Yes, I totally agree it makes sense for Sasuke to realize he lost the fight with Naruto because he was following the wrong ideals. And a lot of the elements you have are the same as mine, so we're totally thinking along the same lines about Sasuke return/redemption. Yes, I don't see him getting off scottfree either - he needs to have some collateral damage by neutralizing some of his skills, etc. It sounds good and — not to pressure you! — but if you ever decide to finish it I'd love to read it!

Yes, I don't like them either. I don't recognize their former selves in these new characters. It's like they are from an entirely different series. I was just thinking, even the wedding photo - it looks nothing like I would have ever imagined for Naruto. I thought the first sketches of Sakura were pretty. But they have completely marginalized her in the movie, even by taking down the colors of her hair and outfits to neutral, background colors.

For right now this is my problem, I can't help but think of their older versions when I think NS. I know that once the hype for the movie is gone I'll feel better because I love my versions of Naruto and Sakura, and all the other ones that fellow fanfic authors have created :3

In the manga, he has one moment of change, with Naruto on the battlefield, and then he's back to being his awful careless self. So when I started writing it, I realized that would be something that I'd have to address. How does he move forward? How is his character resolved? It's been a pain.

The way I figure it, Tricks, it's about him realizing his ideals are not best for the world, and they're also born not out of his beliefs alone, but also anger at what happened to Itachi, as well as his jealousy and hatred toward Itachi, Naruto, and the world itself, showing deep down he didn't understand he wasn't the only person on Earth to suffer. I like to think if I resolve it, I'd have it that he comes to realize how after losing to Naruto not just in ideals, but in spirit, that he realizes he's no better than Madara, which is what would lead him to travel the globe with Taka to try to right the many wrongs he did, as a kind of penance.

I like to think that's what the resolve of Sasuke's story must be that he realizes he's been motivated by nothing but the darkness in one's heart; bitterness, hatred, anger, jealousy... and that he needs to let go of that and realize he isn't the only person to suffer pain and loss and to not lash out at others acting as if he doesn't understand their pain.

That's why I think the biggest thing for Sasuke is to try to gain a sense of empathy, the one thing he's always lacked in life after the massacre just because it wasn't about Itachi killing the clan and their parents, but also the fact Sasuke wanted to surpass him since he hated that Itachi got such recognition from their dad, while he had none of it until Itachi had almost been exposed for his mission to keep an eye on the Uchiha. Plus letting go of his ego is another big step. I know in my fanfic, Naruto: The Demon Within, he's gonna be learning some empathy to slowly turn himself into a protector, not an avenger, as well as having to repent for many sins he commits before he finds his path away from the darkness and to the dawn.

I don't think it's true that Kishi's intention was to mislead the readers all along. All of his interviews are contradicting, so don't take his word for it.

Kishi created Naruto, but we fans must take care of the characters because Kishi don't! We can give Naruto, Sakura, Team 7, and even Taka the ending they deserve. I for myself won't let Kishi ruin them. You should join the Shinachiku squad on tumblr! :) We're a fine gang.

Why do people NOT ship these two? I just don't get it.

Probably cause they hate Sakura. When she's probably the most developed female character in the whole show.

I respect Hinata, but Sakura deserves some too.
