Well, I'm half way there in the anime, and then, it's manga time. It's been a while that I started watching anime or read anything else. I have watch/read a lot, but lately, especially in anime, there were lot of moe stuff or anything ecchi or overdone fanservice. So, I have heard about this anime and in NY, it has spread heavily. I'll bet it will be #1 cosplay at this year comic con, which is today. Lol. Anyway, so I decided to watch it. I thought I was going to get that Gurren Lagann syndrome, while I do like it a lot, but it is overrated, so I was a little afraid. In many respects, it probably is. That said...

 

I can't help but liking it a lot.

 

The one thing they did so well so far is to stick to theme of fear being main factor to these characters. Not only that but the sense of war is handled really well. In my other post in this forums, I mentioned that war should be handled in anime in fully controlled by the author him/herself. Granted nothing wrong with manga, but the focus must be adjusted. I will read from the beginning, so don't worry. That said seeing the animation being so good and music (got no comment), this is just perfect for me.

 

As I said, I like the war genre, so this is just great for me. I always like the opening, giving that war vibe and I admit, it gives me goosebumps, just seeing so many going all out. That's war, live or die.As for the gore, to be honest, it's the right amount of gore/blood. It's not being overdone and the one thing I like is that they don't rely on gore to make the atmosphere to feel like war/hell, rather the sense of fear from many characters and it's handled well. Not only that by go through many senses of what to fear and what to feel like the world ended in your eyes.

 

So, to me, I do believe it deserve all the praise. I won't hate anyone to not like it or watch/read it. I will respect that. I am only sharing my thoughts on the series and I am glad to check it out. I do think I will go back and start watching anime again. It's been a while, but I think it's time for nostalgic me to return. I will finish this first. To those who recommended me back in the other thread, I thanked you.

So, I'm ten chapters into this manga, and I'm completely hooked, I'm definitely drawn into this world and I really like it's dystopic quality. The Titans are the stuff of nightmares I have to say, so freaky, and it's violent and gruesome but not over the top. The art feels a bit crude at times and perhaps a bit uneven, but then other times it's just amazing and very visceral. My favorite character so far is Mikasa, I love seeing such strong female characters.

I wonder if it's canon. Irvin and Levi were so rude : (, but the thing that baffles me the most is that Hange should've recognized Ymir's name and suspected her. This is years before the events of the manga.

Just saw the ova, I really wonder what the mystery behind the titans and the basement is, in fact it's become very interesting with the recent manga stuff like how the ape titan can turn humans into titans.
