It's like Kushina married Fugaku Uchiha.

Oh my god, please stop writing such things. I think i lost half my brain picturing that scenario

Speculation, it was never stated in the story

They hate them really. Just look at Naruto's early life and Gaara's too

Yes, it's speculations but it's based around logical assumptions. Like that if people knew that Kushina was a jinchuuriki they definitely would have mentioned it somehow as they had no compunctions to talk 'freely' about Naruto ('His name is Uzumaki, do you think it's that Uzumaki? Like her? [Insert random speculations about demons, foxes and instability of seals or something]') or that it wouldn't make sense from a military perspective to make the information on an important asset available to the public. And even if Kushina's identity as Jinchuuriki was known, the Kyuubi hadn't harmed Konoha yet so the people had no negative attachment to it.

Oh and i read the manga  . People fear what they don't understand and people hate what they fear. In the 'grand' picture it doesn't matter if the people know the difference between Jinchuuriki and their Bijuu. They don't understand the intricacies and so they fear them, they don' want them near them, their children, friends, house, village and lifes. They simply want them gone and they'll do whatever it takes to do, only because Jinchuuriki are a war asset they can't do anything really 'harmfull' (lol) to the hosts. So they have to make due with simply 'letting the Jinchuuriki know' that they're not welcome.

And the reason they hate Gaara was because he killed people but he was protected as an important village asset and because the Ichibi had already killed many people before it was sealed into Gaara.

The issue of hating/fearing Jinchuuriki can be summarised in one word: Ouroboros

Biju gets sealed -> Host loses control and Biju gets free -> Biju rampages and kills people -> Biju gets sealed -> Host gets discriminated and is not trusted -> Host loses control and Biju gets free -> Biju rampages and kills people -> Biju gets sealed -> you know the drill.

Taken From Viz Media:

A gate to another dimension has burst open, and from it emerge gigantic invincible creatures that threaten all of humanity. Earth's only defense is a mysterious group of warriors who have co-opted the alien technology in order to fight back!

A very interesting manga  that, in my opinion, has actually the potential to become SJ's new main 'action manga'. While the main character is seriously weak he at least growths at a realistic rate and is not the typical dumb, loud and annoying hero-character that has grand aspirations and gets god-given powers.

Another plus is the world building that comes at a steady pace and doesn't dump too much on the reader too fast or too little too slow...and the set-up of the so-called 'Neighborhood' has the promise of many new and interesting settings so we can expect variety in locations, enemies and powers.

And pretty much anything unnormal, like the energy source 'trion' or that 90% of the cast are teenagers or young adults, is either flat out told or can be explained through the context of timelines, interactions or battles.

Romance hasn't been a issue at all so far and the atmosphere of the chapters doesn't make it look like it will become one in the forseeable future so nobody has to fear some kind of shipping war. Which has become a plus for me as i don't have to fear that there's some big-breasted, meek girl that steals the show...hell as far as i remember there were no big breasted girls in this manga!

Now, the biggest plus of the manga are definitely the battles. Even though most (notable) enemies have unique behaviors and powers the battles are always decided through tactics, never through pure brute force. Superior enemies have to be brought down with higher numbers, quick thinking and flawless strategy and even in the situation of a battle between two equals one always triumphs through analyzing the enemy and deciding on a correct strategy instead of naruto-eque 'surprise mothakittena!' power-ups or setu-ups with no forwarning (i.e. Naruto's shadowclones in rock-henge at the end of the Pein fight).

The only negative points i have so far are the (a bit) too weak MC and that we only have 100 chapters (with only 96 translated ones).

This manga definitely has huge potential and i really hope that SJ/Shueisha/Ashihara Daisuke don't kitten this one up...

#799659 Getting back into writing

Posted by Decius23 on 12 April 2015 - 11:27 AM

AUs and 'what ifs'? Good, we could use those on ff.net.

As an avid reader of Naruto-fanfics (read: Total fanfiction junkie) i've got some tips.

If there are some unclear things then please ask me to clarify, i'm just stating what comes to my mind...

General Tips:

  • Consistent use of time (if you use the past tense as you normal tense then stay in the past tense)
  • A few typos or grammar mistakes are ok but not too many
  • Stay the hell away from obvious mistakes (they're and their for example)
  • A good chapter should have a minimum length of 3k words, the optimum lies between 5k and 10k words
  • Don't tell, show. Naruto doesn't 'fight Sasuke', he 'kicked Sasuke in the face'
  • If you don't update for a while then update your profile, if you stop writing then update your profile and your stories.

Story Tips:

  • Don't change the characterization of character without also explaining the reasons (Sasuke became a sadist in the academy? Explain the whys somewhere in the story).
  • If you introduce a crossover element then change it so that it fits into the Naruto-universe. Don't call Spiderman 'Spiderman', give him and his powers japanese names and an appropriate backstory (for example as an experiment of Orochimaru)
  • Plan out the rough outline for your story, including start, 'highpoint' and ending, before you start to write
  • If you do a divergence story (a story which diverges from canon from a single point) then watch out for how the divergence point changes the characters (if the point is an attack on Naruto then you can't have him act like nothing happened but how exactly did this change Naruto? And what of other characters?)
  • If it's an AU story then make sure that your ideas fit into the universe or change the universe entirely (modern skyscrapers don't fit into the universe but you can change the universe into a modern, 21st century version)
  • Never give a character a power-up and the complete knowledge on how to use it at the same time (ex.: Giving Naruto a kekkei genkai. Giving him 'Hyoton' and the knowledge on how to use it is dumb)
  • Avoid giving out power-ups as much as possible

A few good examples of AU stories (what came to my mind):

  • 'Naruto: Soldiers of Fortune' from 'Kenchi618 - Perfect example on how you translate the Naruto-universe into a 21st century theme without butchering important points
  • 'Will of Foxfire' from 'Quill of Molliemon' - Excellent example on how mixing something new (demons and supernatural) into the universe while having basically the same universe as canon
  • 'Training for the Job' from 'desaix' - complete revamp of canon with politics and backstories when important information was missing (identity of Minato and Kushina, the Uzumaki clan etc,)
  • 'Whirlpool Country' from 'paradox jast' - diverging from canon after Asuma's death. Changes on maturity of Naruto without letting the reasons unexplained

I just wrote what came to my mind, so if i have more i'll add it to the list...

#794684 How would you feel about a reboot?

Posted by Decius23 on 04 April 2015 - 12:13 PM

I would like to see Kishi rollback the time and create a alternate timeline from the end of pains arc, because I think for many of us this was the point where the story really started to diverge from the point it was originally intended, the writing style, the involvement of Hinata all happened from this arc, think before this point Hinata was only involved with the Neji arc, after that she was forced more on us, and Sakura's role also started to become more questionable, her confidence was higher, her decisions her more decisive and not involve Sasuke, and her popularity was at a all time high. I also think the series lost allot of fans after the arc, you could tell the series lost it's focus, and many fans only stuck with it because they'd been with Naruto for so long. I would like to read the end that was originally planned for this, even if it didn't involve god teir enemies. The war ruined one of the biggest phrases from the manga 'It's the job of the new generation to surpass the previous generation' the war showed us the new gen is weak compared to the past.

If Kishi makes a reboot sometime in the future (pfff, yeah right), i'd like it more if it happens directly after the chuunin exams. More realism, more politics, genetics of bloodlines, more history (like the clans), more violence, etc. Basically a far more mature series. I mean, why the kitten is the daimyo this old, frail and stupid weed who looks like he doesn't have food? Why isn't he a real battle tested samurai-lord? Why doesn't he have children (or we didn't see some)? And why the heck didn't the war involve the minor villages? Why didn't 'Madara' manipulate them into fighting against the five great nations?

So much wasted potential through trying to keep the manga for the younger audience...

As I said about Star Wars, it's part of the movie industry, an industry that is known to change and rewrite, the book series were canon because Lucas Arts said they were, now that it's changed hands and they want to expand it, the rest can be destroyed because for allot of fans of the series the universe doesn't exist outside canon, it's not part of the movies so it's OK to not exist for them. And if they do deside to nuke episode 1-3 they'd need a complete reboot of series and create a fork in the timeline that would split the universe, like the Star Trek Universe, everything that happened in the universe happened already but for the new reboot to be also considered canon, they created a fork in the timeline that left the original universe as it was and created a whole new timeline for the new one.

Actually, for a lot of StarWars fans the Timothy Zahn books ('The Thrawn Triology' and 'The Caamas Crisis Triology') are still considered canon and many hope that Warner Bros. and Lucas Arts make 'The Thrawn Triology' into the new movies.

#794650 Sakura Hiden

Posted by Decius23 on 04 April 2015 - 09:53 AM

Sorry but she can't defeat base mode Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi. They are all way to fast for her and much smarter.

Erm, no?

The only one to be much faster than Sakura are Kakshi and Sasuke, Naruto is only slightly faster.

The only one to be more intelligent is Kakashi (and only slightly), both Naruto and Sasuke are not as smart as Sakura.

Additionaly, Sakura is a combat-medic, which means that she's way better at dodging than both Naruto and Sasuke. For Sasuke to be better he would need to activate his Sharingan (and we couldn't call him 'basemode' then).

While she wouldn't be able to defeat either of Sasuke or Kakshi because of their Ninjutsu capabillity or speed she would have a very high chance to beat Naruto - in 'base mode' as you would say.

@decius
Why promise of a life time is a worst decision?

Because the Promise together with his own, erm, 'infatuation' with Sasuke put the issue of 'bringing Sasuke back' to the forefront. Beeing Hokage (which is Naruto's goal like killing Itachi is Sasuke's) basically means putting the needs of the village over his own but Naruto's (kitten) argument is "how can i become Hokage when i can't even save a friend". Which is both extremely narrowminded, dumb and hypocritical.

They don't look really happy (well, besides Burrito's 'look i'm so cool' face) in any pics, manga-panels or sketches. Even Hinata, the 'Byakugan Princess' (hurgh) doesn't look happy in the last chapter, and don't get me started on the wedding scene at the end of 'the Last'. And Boruto will somehow fix all this? How? Going back into the past to warn his father that he is making a mistake and thus practically erasing himself from the universe? Yeah right.

I honestly don't know why i am/was even upset/sad/whatever about how the manga ended. My enjoyment of Naruto came from fanfiction anyway, the only scenes in the manga that were of any interest for me were the Kushina/Naruto scenes and the end pairings. The war-arc was so crappy that anything else didn't matter anyway but Kishimoto still managed to upset me with the ending. So...congratulations??

*Sigh* that is what could have happened but noooo, not with mister Kishi-ihavenoideawhatimdoing-moto:

Don't worry, it's NaruSaku

Wow, i just found a good note in a fanfiction story that really hits my nerve with all the trash that hits FFN lately (thank you Kishi for the kitten war-arc and the ending :goodjob: ):

When canon immitates fanfiction and fanfiction immitates canon immitating fanfiction, it's fanception except we've all been let down.

I don't mean a redo, as in publishing something that wipes out the ending that's already there.

More like a "secret" book that is released without much fanfare, but that opens up the storyline as if it is just a dream. Something that has an open end, like "The Gutsy Ninja," but that strongly hints of a future where Naruto and Sakura get together, as well as Sasuke/Karin. Something that might pick up where "The True End" chapter left off.

But to do it would have required more 'hints' about something not being quite right, and a stronger emphasis on the dream jutsu possibly taking hold.

It surprises me that they didn't go this route, because it would have kept the most fans still connected to the series, and still willing to shell out money. By slamming the door on NS and then going back and saying that all the build up was a lie, they alienated a HUGE chunk of their fanbase and lost thousands of dollars in future sales.

Keeping them all on the hook for a secret alternative ending would have kept the NS fans still in the fold and still willing to shell out money.

Since that's what drove the manga in the end — money, not creativity — I'm surprised they didn't try to keep the maximum amount of fans around for the longest period of time.

From all that i've seen so far, it seems as if Kishimoto is a relative traditional Japanese (he often emphasises loyalty even if it's detriminal to people in question, showing mothers as nothing more than housewives instead of something like pouring over Jutsu scrolls, etc. and japanese students at my university often say that this theme of 'loyalty' is rather big in traditional households) who tried to be a bit progressive as seen in his depictions of Kushina, Tsunade and Sakura as strong women or alluding to a very traditional Hinata trying to change herself/to realize herself instead of giving in to her clans (traditional) worldview.

The major factor in, hm, hindering Kishimoto's growth as manga writer and even in his own character growth seems to be his workenvironment, especially his later editors and his contacts at Studio Pierot who by and large are all very traditional in their view on things (especially on women - and yes i'm fully aware that i just equaled women with things, you know why, yes?) and are even Otaku to boot. In hindsight it's too easy to see that the rather refreshing first Part of the Manga had no chance to continue like that in part two.

The only chance i see for Kishimoto to ever come back and either rewrite the ending or even draw a complete retake on Naruto would be firstly to let him have some time away from the Naruto franchise, like drawing a complete new manga and secondly, he needs to get away from both Shueisha and Studio Pierot.

He needs people who help him write the story he wants and offer advise when it seems as if he starts to loose himself in details or non-issues, not help him to have the story 'conform' to an outdated, objectifying worldview that directly conflicts with large parts of his early chapters (Shinobi are people who endure to achive their goals? Did Naruto not want to change exactly that? But in the end it's still the same as always with impending wars and sacrifising his personal time for the village/greater good. And don't get me started on the whole 'prophecy' kitten! 'In the name of Emperor Showa you are destinied to fight for Jap...erm i mean in the name of the Rikudo Sennin you are destinied to fight for the peace of the Elemental Nations!' Hmph).

I honestly don't know how many times I yelled bullsh** at my screen seeing The Last. It half asses everything, and I mean everything we know about the characters we love, and the scene that really got my gears grinding was Sakura's speech to Naruto about Hinata and her feelings not changing. The real Sakura would never say kitten like that, and the real Naruto would never be hung up on Hinata. To say this movie is like a bad episode of Sailor Moon would be an insult to that series even though this film ripped off some many things from it, and didn't even do them right.

Yeah, i just read Part 1 of the manga for old times sake and you guys remember the scene directly before Kabuto makes his entrance during the Chunin Exams? In the introductions for team 8 it says for Hinata: "Kurenai Team #8, Hyuuga Hinata: A weido who looks away when i look at her. A shy and dark girl".

And then i found that pic which really shows what i thought in regards to 'The Last bullsh**' and the relation to Hinata's introduction:
