I always feel over worked. I want to become an author, but I write fanfictions and some times I don't update right away, rather it's taking a break, busy, or lazy. I begin to feel burdened. But I try most every day to write on one or more fanfictions. Second off, I don't like Teen Titans any more and I have a fanfiction of it on ff.net, that's not done. laugh.gif I have hardly any passion left for the show, which makes it hard to write.

Here's another idea, if your trying to write a story that has a lot of romance and drama, try watching the Eureka 7 series. biggrin.gif

But I don't like pacing myself...
I like being spontaneous!
I like blurring that line of forced creativity and mental breakdown!
I li--*dies*

...That's probably the reason I haven't finished a fic/chapter in a long while.

^That's what happened to me! I wrote like 9 chapters in about 1-2 weeks and when I started the sequel I wrote about 4 in a week and stopped for a few days, got the next 3 chapters up and then it ultimately slowed down. To where I would update every few months. laugh.gif My fans have grown impatient, but I also don't care for Teen Titans any more, which makes it harder to write.

I've been working on the same chapter for almost a week... the document is always open so whenever I'm waiting for a webpage to load I write a line or two, something I just sit down and write for a hour without knowing or somedays go by without a word added...like today soo far...I'm still in the middle of a sentence...

I'm with desaix here, find some really light stories that can lighten your mood. For the rare instances that I want to get over something I have some decent length, teeth rotting sweet, WAFF-y stories that have little to no drama and instead focus on being fun. If reading is not your thing you can also think about watching something. I can't suggest anything of US origin since I do not watch television, but in the anime department something like Angelic Layer, Fancy Lala, Happy Lesson, Ouran High School Host Club. Anything episodic or without much of a plot really.

Music is also nice as some have suggested, but I find that it is less soothing than the above method. Nevertheless I have a few tracks (Mostly game/anime OSTs, movie soundtracks, and various trance tracks).

go to my thread -- the one about the favorite stories. tons of good stories you can browse through there.
search a story called The Dream Machine. nothing like good old humor.

after re-reading a couple of favorite fics on FF.net, I have to wonder how depressing it is for authors of really good, original stories to see only a handful of reviews while a 1,000 word grammatically inferior piece that just happens to mention SasuSaku or NaruHina (or even NaruSaku) has like ten or twenty times as many...I'd feel a bit down if I were an author (and cared about such things)

Depends on the reviews. If you have a review that says, "Hey, awesome story," while those are nice to get, they do not help the writer. Critiquing a writer's work is a little more involved. Point out what parts you liked in the story as well as the parts you didn't like. The best way to do this is print out the story and add your remarks as you read. That way it's fresh in your mind as you read.

10 of that type of review is worth a 1000 awesome story reviews.

i agree. also, some catagories may be more popular than others. for instance, garden of sanctuary is a good fic. but just becaue it is tragedy, it doesn't have that many reviews. but the story is no doubt a masterpiece.

Why even concern yourself over reviews. The majority of them are from kids who feel the need to say "Awesome" or the like to every story, even if it's not particularly good. This is the fanboy factor which I'm sure people on this board are just as guilty of. It is nothing more than supporters of a certain pairing, or cliche (High School fics anyone) espousing their their ideals. For this reason ff.net doesn't even have a review count filer. I would prefer to not have a single review than a thousand of those.

What really gets me though is the whole concern over popularity. Sure I can go to my stats page and see that my story's been accessed so many times, and reviewed so many times, but that's not what keeps me writing. If you write, for god's sake do it for yourself. None of us are professionals (Well, the majority certainly aren't), we don't write for money, there are no publishers breathing down our back, yet for some reason we act like we have all those problems and more. By forcing yourself to write stuff for others you are taking much enjoyment out of the activity.

Very true; you expanded on what my initial message was very well.
