This is something that's been on my mind for a very long time and it all connects back to Sakura, and how most of the fanbase bashed her and still do this day because she was only viewed as a pathetic love interest with minimal spotlight in in terms of fights. At the same time, this is where I kinda started thinking of how other fanbases treat the main female character, and their stance when it comes to the representation of that particular main female character. I remember a particular character from a well known series that got a lot of haters in the beginning, but over time got huge praise and changed the perception of most haters.

You see unlike most people in the fanbase when she was introduced, I actually liked Ahsoka and the interaction she had with her master Anakin in The Clone  Wars Movie (I think that was the only redeeming part of the movie for me). I always kinda saw her as the Luke Skywalker of the clone wars in terms of potential and you know what years later comparing her to Luke Skywalker can be made clearly. It's also interesting to see the same people that initially hated Ahsoka would grow to love her overtime especailly with what she's offered in Star Wars Rebels.

What Main female characters do you guys know fans hated intially, but grew to love overtime?

I can't think of any. I would say Sakura but I never hated her in the first place.

I know Bulma was pretty hated. Not as large, but there were haters. Now, a lot of people I know really love her. This is only based on my experience though.

hmm.. i never watch avatar or it's continuation, but i think avatar's daughter is not as well liked as the original avatar, but still lots of fans were in till the end so they must have like her as the series progress on.

Eva Heinemann from Monster. When she was introduced she came off as a horrendous, selfish, arrogant, ignorant human being. Slowly and steadily, as the series progresses, the audience ever so gradually begins to understand and sympathize with her.

To be fair, this is totally on purpose from the author's point of view, but technically she fits the topic. And she's the first character which came to my mind that fit.

I can't say much since fan(boys & girls) has a set mind when dealing with hated character and unlikely they will change their mind because the "need always right" attitude. Unless the author is a genius who could make something like that, I don't think it will always happen.

@cloud mountain
Is she getting hate?
Naoki urasawa character usually well written characters.

Oh, she's incredibly well-written. But I've seen plenty of hate for Eva, and I think she fits the thread's title. Unless I'm misinterpreting something.

I'm not sure about the fandom hates but at first I disliked Lucy Lane from supergirl and princess gyeonghye from kdrama princess man.

Asuka from Evangelion. Her final battle made so many people like her and appreciate her character.

I remember seeing adds for the movie. Ashoka initially came across as a character that was designed to suck up to Millennial. I hate characters like that, but seeing the actual show, she is well developed and interesting character. It's unfortunate that such a great show was debuted by such a bad movie.

Asuka is definitely one for me. I'm still not a fan, but I am agree with Luna that I appreciate her much more than I did.

You're the cruel one :fu:

When I think about it, asuka is like sakura in the sense that she's in love with not the main character and she dislike the mc. And she's a kitten tsundere with red hair.
