Cardiothoracic surgeon Oh Yeon joo's (Han Hyo-joo) father mysteriously goes missing while writing the last chapter of his webtoon "W". Yeon joo goes to his office and is shocked to see a scene of the dying Kang Chul (Lee Jong-suk), the main character of W, on her father's computer. While reading a note left behind by her father, a hand from the monitor pulled her in and she finds herself on the rooftop of a building next to a bleeding man. She manages to save him and realizes that the person she saved was Kang Chul. Yeon joo later discovers that she can only leave the webtoon based on Kang Chul's change in feelings. When that happens, the words 'to be continued' will appear and she will teleport back to the real world.
I recently watched this drama and the similarities to Naruto SHOOK me.
The Romance.
Kang Chul -Main Character in the W World(manga)
Yoon So Hee - Female Lead and Kang Chul's best friend in the W World(manga)
Oh Yeon-Joo - Female Lead in the real world(side character in W World)
So basically Kang Chul and Yoon So Hee were suppose to get together but circumstances brought Yeon-Joo to the W world and her interactions with the main character were what I would say impactful. Everytime she go to the world her and Kang Chul's interactions made them fall for each other.
However, what was most interesting was the commentary. Every time Yeon-Joo go to the world the manga drew itself so basically without knowing at first she was part of the manga in the real world and people were shocked at the change in plot from action/crime to full blown romance novel. Everytime Yeon-Joo go backs to the real world you get certain comments from characters.
In this case you can easily say:
Kang Chul - Naruto
Yoon So-Hee - Sakura
Oh Yeon-Joo - Hinata
But in actuality it's
Yoon So-Hee-Hinata
Oh Yeon-Joo - Sakura
99% of the males in the show and most females loved Yoon So-Hee because she was pretty, had big breasts and she obviously had a crush on Kang Chul(which HE knew but never acted on it).
However, Yeon-Joo was hated every time she appeared in the manga the Yeon-Joo's co-worker who read the manga made comment about him hating Yeon-Joo in the manga and that Kang-Chul should end up with his best friend and the girl who always had a crush on him.
Yeon-Joo replied and said that why couldn't her character end up with Kang-Chu and that he never responded to Yoon So-Hee's crush so he shouldn't be together with her. (note that none of the people in the real world knows she's experiencing the manga when she goes into it. They assume its her father drawing all of it) and he said that So-Hee looked better and had bigger breasts. Yeon-Joo didn't have large breasts at all.
The commentaries on the manga were interesting and of course Yeon-Joo ended up with Kang-Chul but the similarities were soo eerie I had to post it. The show is really good and you should give it a try.
