I was looking around the boards and noticed that there was a lot of discussion about the quality of fics and I remember seeing one of these recommendation threads around, but it is lost to me. The Great Heaven and Earth Fanfiction Listing is a place where any fic is posted about its new "hot off the press" status or "updated" status and maybe a little discussion about it from time to time. Here, I wish to provide a list of stories with enough information that a reader could (hopefully) skip the pages of fanfiction that you must dig through in order to find your "gems". Any NaruSaku story may be listed here from fanfiction.net, anywhere, so long as you try to follow the format below. Also, please do not recommend 18+ stories unless it is in the adult recommendation list. The link is provided at the end of the post. Note: You must have admin/mod permission to enter.
List/link your favorite NaruSaku stories here, with an explanation of why you believe the story is good. It would also be nice if you list the Genres, whether the story is complete/incomplete, on-going/hiatus/discontinued, one-shot/multi-chapter, rating, AU/Narutoverse, and maybe a little warning if there is any (please nothing spoilerish, otherwise please put in spoiler tags).
Oh, and as a side note: If you would like to withdraw a recommendation, please state so in a new post with the story you wish to withdraw and the reason for doing so.
I'll start off with our dear old friend, Nes Mikel's Garden of Sanctuary.
Title: Garden of Sanctuary
Author: Nes Mikel
Genre: Tragedy/Romance; AU
Rating: T
Status: Complete, one-shot
Summary: AU: Oneshot. An alternate ending to Naruto. The Heavens describe the Garden a peaceful paradise. The Hells describe the Garden a baneful prison. In here... which is it? (This is Nes' official ff.net summary btw)
Reason of recommendation: This story has practically become a staple of NaruSaku fanfiction. It contains not only great writing almost if not completely free of grammatical errors, but a enjoyable plot that leaves readers hanging at the end and wanting for more. And we got more! With two sequels! A must read if you're a NaruSaku fan and don't mind tragedies.
Warnings: A box of tissues recommended if you're prone to crying or very emotional.
Here's the format for those who are lazy to type it up yourselves, and to keep everything more uniform looking. Oh, I included all the choice options for the lazy folks, so just delete what isn't your choice. I highly recommend using this format as it makes it easier on me, who has to go back and fill in all the blanks!
Shameless plug, but here is the link to a Fanfiction.net C2 for NaruSaku that a few fellow members and I have been working on. We look for quality fics and then vote by majority rule for if it gets added to the C2. It includes most of the stories listed in this thread.
Due to the confusion of a story being recommended multiple times, I've combined them all in spoiler tags. These will be sorted in alphabetical order for easier scrolling.
Title: Ten Days
Author: SakuNaruLover
Genre: Romance/Humor
Rating: T
Status: Complete
Summary: The rookie genin get ten days of summer vacation. Can Naruto finally convince Sakura to love him? This is an entry for the The Great Heaven & Earth FanficFanart Contest III, Summertime Edition. The keyword is: summer vacation. NaruSaku, SakuNaru
Reason of recommendation: A very cute and fluffy fic dealing with the buildup of a relationship between Naruto and Sakura. This is the fic that made me become a NaruSaku fan.
Warnings: None
Title: Trail of Freedom
Author: Terra of Genesis
Genre: Action/Adventure/Romance
Rating: M
Status: Ongoing
Summary: AU: Naruto sets out on his greatest journey to achieve what he longs for most, freedom from the past which heavily weighs on his shoulders. But he will have to suffer a huge fall, before being reborn as the hero he was destined to become.
Reason for recommendation: A big, long, beautifully narrated epic. Usually you don't see a lot of them in Naruto fanfiction. I find interesting the changes the author brings in the Naruto world, and here Naruto is powerful, but not unbelievablingly so, and without losing his endearing traits.
Title: Triage: Finding Home
Author: Amber-Endorphin
Genre: Romance/Angst
Rating: T
Status: Complete
Summary: 'Home is Where the Heart is...' Even the doormat mocked her! And he, well he knew all along that you could live in a place forever, and it still wouldnt be home. Rated for mild swearing.
Reason of recommendation: Solid one-shot about the difference between a house and a home, an idea that works very well within the Naruto universe. Go read it!
Title: Twelve days of Christmas
Author: Ms. Soupy
Genre: Romance/General
Rating: T
Status: Complete
Summary: Sakura is depressed about being alone for the holidays, that is until she starts receiving gifts from her 'true love'. Will she figure out this gifters identity or will it turn out to be a horrible trick?
Reason of recommendation: A trully touching story. Sakura is receiving gifts at christmas from a mystery gifter who seems to know her better then she knows herself. well she figure it out before the 12th and final gift comes? Read and find out
Title: The Twelve of Two
Author: silentknight021
Genre: Romance/Angst
Rating: T
Status: In progress (7 chapters)
Summary: An abrupt confession by Naruto sets the stage for a twelve hour timespan between Sakura and himself. As they learn more about each other, Sakura begins to understand what was always there while Naruto comes to a decision. NaruSaku, Slight OOC
Reason of recommendation: The story, if you didn't see the link earlier, is about Naruto and Sakura sometime after Sasuke's betrayal, as Naruto comforts a down Sakura, and she wants to understand more of how he can be so kind to her, as well as Naruto's wanting to let go perhaps... but it also shows Sakura in one of the best ways I've ever seen.
Title: Walk Away From Me
Author: InoFan
Genre: Romance/Angst
Rating: T
Status: 4 chapters, complete
Summary: NaruSaku. Everything to everyone, Naruto thinks that he can never be what he really wants to one important person.
Reason of recommendation: This story shows a side of Naruto and Sakura that I like. The closeness of their friendship morphing into something more is very well portrayed.
Title: Witchblade Sakura
Author: Kanius
Genre: Supernatural/Horror/Romance; AU from first Shippuden Arc
Rating: M
Status: In-progress
Summary: Dark Sakura. NaruSaku. Haruno Sakura is told of an ancient artifact by Chiyo. This mysterious item, called the Witchblade, seeks a new wielder: Sakura. It's up to her to use it in the fight against the Akatsuki and Orochimaru.
Reason of recommendation: This is EXCELLENT. Usually I stay away from crossovers, but it's brilliantly written, with gripping plot twists, and you don't need reading the Witchblade comic or knowing its characters for understanding the story. The battle scenes are awesome and the NaruSaku moments are great. Sakura is spot-on (at last someone depicts her early treatment of Naruto right like it was, without overexaggerating it), and her OOC moments are perfectly justified.
Warnings: Strong violence.
Title: You're Never Alone
Author:SakuNaruLover
Genre: Romance/Humor
Rating: T
Status: One-shot
Summary: Sakura should be happy. Sasuke has returned to the village, Orochimaru has been killed and Akatsuki has been stopped for now. And it's her birthday as well. So why was she feeling like that...?
keyword: secret
Reason of recommendation: Their relationship in this fic is touching, and there is a scene which had me cracking up for quite a while.
Warnings: None
