I'm actually glad that Hinata was chosen for that. Hinata was trolled there.

Hinata: "I won't let you lay a finger on Naruto!" 

Pein: "Okay, I'll lay one on you then"...BOOM.. One hit KO.

Hinata's foolishness -Naruto is devastated. He loses composure and almost ends up losing himself to Kyuubi.

This was against Pein remember.

 

What about Sakura? RtN-Similar scene, against a tougher opponent, Madara/Obito.

Sakura: "I won't let you have Naruto!"

Obito: " This girl stands no chance against me" 

Obito: " Damn! This girl is strong and ruined all my plans!"

Sakura manages to hold her own and buy Naruto time to regain his memory and fight as himself.

 

So, who got the better scene?

 

One more thing, I'm also glad it was Hinata there because her confession was done there. If she hadn't confessed there but instead done so near the end of the manga(especially after 615) not many NS fans would feel easy, I can tell you that.

Yeah, that's because part of what she was saying was a lie (the fact that she's completely over Sasuke and is consciously romantically in love with Naruto). Naruto's not an idiot, and he's certainly not going to accept someone's affection as a pity prize. He'd be more than happy to accept Sakura's love, if and when it's completely genuine. 
 
As for Sakura fighting Pain, well, in my opinion that situation was impossible because Sakura's not that stupid. Honestly, what good could she have done? First of all, she's a medic ninja and at the time was in high demand to heal people. What good would she do dead? Second of all, as much as she cares about Naruto, she has enough self-worth to not throw her life away meaninglessly. She obviously is willing to put herself in danger for other people, but suicide? No way.
 
Hinata, on the other hand, was just blinded by her emotion and worry at the moment and jumped right in without thinking things through and was swept aside immediately. Not the most well thought out plan. Also, so much of her self-worth is tied to Naruto that she would be more than willing to throw her life away for him, which, IMO, is a little sad. Yes, the person you love should be extremely important to you, but your entire self shouldn't be based on their approval. If both of you are comfortable in your own skin, the relationship is that much more like to work out.
 
 However, I agree that if it HAD been Sakura instead of Hinata, Naruto would have reacted even stronger because his bond with her is deeper and she's the girl that he loves. But, considering the circumstances, it had to be Hinata to do it. Besides, Kishi wanted to get the confession out of the way. Woo.

I feel the same way. I also agree that it may be realization that Hinata loves him but if that were the case shouldn't sakura be happy that someone loves her "friend"? (if ever it's just that)

Maybe the realization was of the fact that someone loves Naruto more than her and that person doesn't hesitate to show it. She realizes can't hold back and maybe that's why hugged him infront of Hinata to send a message- Naruto is mine
