I can't quite put any word on why I find myself watching this show and finishing it's predecessor, other than the fact that it's interesting. The random cuts to placeholder frames, and the slightly off-characters, I just can't take my eyes off of it. Could do without the brother/sister thing....

Question for anyone who's seen this through episode 5:

spoilery theory --Click here to view--
Anyone else think Hanekawa isn't being on the up and up with Araragi on how she got Senjogahara to let him go home in episode 3? Suddenly she seems to be shrouded in this antagonisty-mist. Did she plot Karen's sickness?

Just realized how many more stories there are in the monogatari series. My conjecture above was unfounded I guess. But I think it's what makes the series interesting. We get into the heads of the person telling the story, but everyone's intentions are hidden then discovered. And the way they talk about things is unwavering versus what they actually think. There's actually very little action when compared to what just goes on in their heads and what they observe. Which makes the people behind the animes even more good in my opinion. The scenery seems to have a hypnotic effect, luring one into the mindset of Koyomi or whoever is on hand as the observer in any given scene.

Yeah, I've always thought that the dialogue was brilliant. I think most of it is pulled directly from the novels, but there is likely some original stuff here and there.

The bits of fanservice here and there don't hurt, either.

Heheh, indeed. nosebleed8rx.gif Although again... I can do without the pedo fanservice.

About the dialogue, I believe you're right, but I believe the way the story is being presented superbly accentuates the original dialogue. The design of the scenery and the cuts that seem random but make sense. That's why although the dialogue may be from the light novels but the anime designers bring it to a new level. Honestly, someone lazy could've just done a straight forward presentation of them speaking with little cuts, and while the dialogue is already enjoyable, the way the animation is directed makes it more so. So I guess that was my point when I wrote "makes the people behind the animes even more good".

I think it's great that we get to know more about Koyomi's younger sisters. So I guess the first half of the series will be about Karen and the second one about Tsukihi?

Hm... I just watched episode seven. Looks like that's the end of the Karen Bee arc.... I hope they do the other parts to Nisemonogatari.

Thoughts on the episode:

DBZ MAX!!! cool.gif I like how genre-bendy the anime sometimes gets. This series is definitely more actiony than Bakemonogatari.

Secondly... ew. The siscon stuff. But laugh.gif at how he made sure she wouldn't run away but also... sweatdrop.gif sleep.gif headscratch.gif

Sorry for not spoiler tagging some of this before.

the good stuff --Click here to view--
Thirdly... EH?? <-- to Shinobu's request.

Fourthly.... NO! say it isn't so! Hitagi denied it, but the way it was animated rings of truth and she even half-admitted it. Edited for speculations: Did Kaiki also save her from being raped? I know in Bakemonogatari it was animated as her stabbing the dude but... what she says... NOOOOOOOOooooo!

Fifthly!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! What happened when the light flashed before Araragi went back home? omfg.gif omfg.gif omfg.gif zomg.gif

Those of you who have been following my posts know why I haven't made any comments on the last episode. But just watched episode 9. Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment... le sigh. Anyway, apart from the stuff I don't like, two new characters appear, posing just as much mystery as Kaiki. They know a little too much... and their request makes me think that they know Meme. Anyone else think so too? Anyone who's read the light novels, tell me nothing! tongue.gif

Poor Hanekawa, she's in love with someone who's placed her on such a high pedestal that he'll never be able to have the kinds of feelings for her that she does for him.

Episode 11, Tsukihi Phoenix ends. One thing that I have liked about this show, although I don't know if it exists in the light novels is that it's not always the one who wins the fight who is right. Nice ending.

Er... I forget but even though this is listed as the last episode, isn't there another part to Nisemonogatari in the light novel?

Nope, Nisemonogatari is over. They've already started work on Kizumonogatari.

The order for the light novels, and presumably any anime they continue to make, will be something like this:

Kizumonogatari (in production) - Prequel, when Koyomi meets Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade. (AKA Oshino Shinobu in Bakemonogatari and beyond) Pretty much all the titles in the series are a play on words, in a manner of speaking. Often Japanese words have more than one meaning in English, and Nisio Isin tries to play on that as much as possible. I mean, the guys name is a palindrome, for crying out loud.
Translation: kizumono - defective, or unvirtuous girl, monogatari - story
Chapters: 18. This lends credence to the idea that Kizumono will likely be an OVA.

Bakemonogatari (done) - A brief look at most of the girls.
Translation: bakemono - ghost, monster
Chapters: 41 between volumes 1 and 2. This took 15 episodes, a normal season has 12.

Nisemonogatari (done) - Karen and Tsukihi.
Translation: nisemono - impostor, fake
Chapters: 35 between volumes 1 and 2. This took 11 episodes.

next is Nekomonogatari (Black) and Nekomonigatari (White) - Tsubasa
Translation: neko - cat
Chapters: 79 between black and white volumes. I have no idea how they plan to do this in a season without cutting a helluva lot. Unless they want to make it 2 seasons.

Kabukimonogatari - Mayoi
Translation: kabuki - gate, drama
Chapters: 30

Hanamonogatari - Suruga
Translation: hana - flower, nose, end
Chapters: 32

Otorimonogatari - Nadeko
Translation: otori - decoy, lure (Yeah, Hitagi does NOT like Nadeko.)
Chapters: 24

Onimonogatari - Shinobu
Translation: oni - demon
Chapters: 33

Koimonogatari - Hitagi
Translation: koi - means a lot of things, but since this book revolves around Hitagi, it most likely means 'love, passion'
Chapters: 39

There are also three more light novels that have not been published yet, but have been confirmed. Rumor has it that they take place after Koyomi has graduated from high school.

Tsukimonogatari - Yotsugi (the shikigami that shinobu fought at the end of nisemonogatari)
Translation: tsukimono - attendant, accessory, devil possession

Owarimonogatari - No idea who this one is about, but it's titled 'Ougi Dark', which roughly translates into 'Dark Secrets' or 'Dark Mysteries'
Translation: owari - the end

Zokuowarimonogatari - This one supposedly focuses on Koyomi again.
Translation: zoku - race, group (combining zoku with owari can potentially either mean a race to the end, or the end of their group? just speculation at this point)

Wow! There's much more to come than! Thanks for the info Paradox! I saw somewhere that Tsubasa tiger was listed under Nisemonogatari, which is why I was confused. Have you read the translations of the light novels?

I'm super excited about Kizumonogatari!!!! More Killshot! More Meme! Araragi can win a fight again! tongue.gif

As I can only read and understand a handful of words/phrases in Japanese, unfortunately I have to wait for translation. So I've read all of Kizu, Bakemono, and Nise, and what's been translated so far of Neko and some of Kabuki. But that's it. I can say with confidence that Shaft definitely did the light novels justice.

Edit: Tsubasa Tiger is the subtitle of Nekomonogatari. All of the books have subtitles/chapters.

Kizu - Koyomi Vamp

Bakemono - Hitagi Crab, Mayoi Snail, Suruga Monkey, Nadeko Snake, Tsubasa Cat

Nise - Karen Bee, Tsukihi Phoenix

Neko - Tsubasa Family, Tsubasa Tiger

Kabuki - Mayoi Jiangshi

Hana - Suruga Devil

Otori - Nadeko Medusa

Oni - Shinobu Time

Koi - Hitagi End

Tsuki - Yotsugi Doll

Owari - Ougi Dark

Zokuowari - Koyomi Book
