The only reason The Last made so much is because of all the false advertising. Its the only canon movie movie of the franchise, it was told that this movie would tie all the loose ends etc, etc. This movie was supposed to be this 'Epic Grandfinale' that brings closure too all the characters and plot-points because it is called 'The Last'. It wouldn't have done half as well if not for the misleading title, advertising and the no refund policy. You just have to look at the movie's rating to see this. 8 out of the top 10 reviews give this movie 1/5 stars and each of those reviews has about 100 likes each.

And anyways even if this movie's collection surpasses Rtn's(I believe that it will) the question remains how much does it really help SP. Its gonna cost them in the long run.
But having said that ,as of right now this movie is going to bring them a lot of money. I'm sure its gonna do great in the west as well. So to see the damage that the movie caused to the franchise I think we'll have to see how the rest of the New Era project does.

The Last advertised NaruHina pretty clearly to me.  ^_^' That wasn't false. Most of the big sales and numbers came in after the premiere and not from the presale... And those people knew what the ending (pairing wise) and what the movie would be about... Where did you get a no refund policy from? Just curious.

Oi, I hate to say this, but the only reason RTN made more in dollars so far is because yen devalued against the US dollar ever sinceJapanese yen value decreased in the last two years. It's not worth as much in dollars anymore.  Dollars don't matter when it comes to box office numbers in Japan anyway, hence why it's Japan, where yen matters.  The Last has made more yen than RTN (in it's entire run) in less than a month.

Road To Ninja between July 28th and September 23rd : ¥ 1.46 billion

The Last between December 6th and December 28th (?): ¥1.49 billion

79 yen per dollar when RTN was out. Currently around 120 yen per dollar.

In Topic: So when did Kishi really decide to switch to NH?

Well, he said that he planned NH "quite a long time ago"/"very beginning stages of the story", but he didn't write anything for it for over 300 chapters after the Chuunin Exams arc. Even after he did, Naruto & Hinata weren't even close until two years after chapter 699 and several retcons and asspulls that came out of nowhere for the movie. His idea of making SS and NH compete with NaruSaku (after the Pain arc) was having Sakura continue to love Sasuke and forcing Neji's death just for the sake of NH.

If he would just admit that he f**cked up that would be a good start...

Which leads me to believe he did not "change" and NH was always the original pairing. NS was the one he thought about changing to but didn't.

The Last has surpassed RTN in the box office. Meh. Honestly if it wasn't successful I don't think America would be getting it. especially subtitled. We (never) rarely get this stuff. I don't think this has ever happened with Naruto before.

Guys, is it true that in the movie, Naruto & Sakura part ways or are they still close friends?

When Kishimoto said the movie was also about Naruto and Sakura parting ways, he meant it as a resolution to their relationship. Not that they aren't close or friends anymore. He was hoping the answer (what? that Naruto only liked Sakura cause of Sasuke? LOL) in the movie would give the people who didn't like the ending or were confused a peace of mind.

HAH!
