So, riffing off the current question on the Naruto Agree/Disagree thread, would Boruto have been better if set in the future? Well I took that little idea and fleshed it out a bit. What if Boruto was set 90 years in the future? (like Legend of Korra after ATLA) And the Konoha and story of Naruto we all knew had been dramatically changed over time? So much so that the ninja way of life has been completely wiped away, the city is thoroughly modernized, and Naruto's was the dedicated administrator who single-handedly one the war and ushered in an age of change?

But all the while he was hiding a terrible secret from his past, waiting till the time was right to pass it on....

Boruto - Set in the future

(great little warm-up creative writing exercise - I'll post more if anyone's interested)

It would have made perfect sense if it was based in the far future, but this is the problem of a series when the right owners don't have confident they could make the series stand up without the original protagonist.

I'd have it set in a future where the need for Ninja is dying, and Boruto as the great grandson of Naruto either idolises him or feels contempt as his family still train in the Ninja ways that is no longer considered a neccesity of society. The Bijuu's are no longer sealed inside humans instead have hidden themselves away from humans have become myths. Then a new force arrives, using new tech to control the weaker beasts and looking for the remaining beasts to take over the world, and Boruto along with decendants of say Shikamaru, and Sasuke go on a journey to find Kurama and the other myths.

It could be a story of reviving a old art, rediscovering techniques, yet at the same time not be as tied down to the old hero. The first Boruto chapter makes no sense, technology doesn't make sense, the way Jutsu's are weaponised is idiotic for the time that has passed. The mere fact that there is a new threat dispite both Naruto and Sasuke both being alive is stupid. But as I said, this isn't happening because the Publishers don't have the guts to base the series in a time frame where they would not be able to rely on their old hero if things go down south.

You know, that brings up something I always kind of thought was interesting. In the Forest of Death in the early days of Naruto, Naruto throws a Kunai knife at a giant centipede, says it's just a centipede, and Sakura proceeds to say it's the size of a bus.

Other than the first movie, The land of Snow, I don't remember ever seeing any vehicles...

Smooth, silky-like writing. Storyteller's sharp-tongue flow.

Come on, post the rest!
