I don't think it's a slap in the face at all.

If Sakura is raising Salada when she is not actually her daughter, it's likely that she is doing so voluntarily.  A Sasuke/Karin child would not have a stable place to live; they are both technically exiled criminals.  Sending her to live in Konoha is a kindness in that case.

Not a slap in the face in terms of Sakura's kindness or her volunteering to care for a potential rival's child with her (obviously, in this case) old crush. I think Sakura would certainly do that.

No, a slap in the face in the way that it would mean that Sakura is shown 1. not as a medic, 2. not as a kunoichi, 3. not with her own child. It would be taking everything away from Sakura that she'd worked for and instead making her a nanny.

If it were to be the case, then showing Sakura caring for someone else's child is really a low blow, saying she's not with Naruto and she's clearly not with Sasuke either. If it were Karin's love child with Sasuke, that Sakura cares for, then we would know absolutely zero about the course of her life. I think her character already got the shaft by Kishimoto, but that situation would be an even bigger one.

It's bad enough that the child doesn't even look like Sakura. At all. (It's a visual emphasis on how important Sasuke is to this story that Sakura's child looks like the reestablishment of the Uchiha clan, not cute little pink-haired kids who will never be quite like the crazy Uchihas of old.)

But it's neither here nor there: I think these are their kids, the way its presented (albeit clumsily) in the manga. It doesn't make sense to for it to happen any other way. And the only true confirmation we have of this is because of the Sasuke/Sakura moment in the chapter before. That leads me to believe that Sasuke is with Sakura, thus Naruto is with Hinata. And it sucks all over again.

edit: I would love to see a thread about Naruto and Sakura's children. There's an adorable pic on slextrem's tumblr of a blond haired, green-eyed boy that looks I think I'm going to adopt into my headcanon NS family!

Just because Sakura doesn't let her house get dirty, doesn't mean she isn't the best medic in the village guys, you all act like if you clean house your not a ninja. As I recall Minato was cooking and cleaning while wearing a apron in the RTN movie, Kushina I'm sure kept her house clean while still going on missions with Minato.

Let's not assume Sakura is somehow not a fighter anymore, cleaning house doesn't mean a thing like that, it just means she isn't s slob like part 1 Naruto xD

There's nothing wrong with it. At all.

It's just that there are so many other ways that Sakura could have been shown — coming in from a doctor's office where she's a pediatrician, working at a hospital, even being a med-nin instructor at the school.

Of course just because she's shown cleaning doesn't mean it automatically negates everything else. But Kishimoto chose to tell her final story this way, and I'm saying there were lots of different scenes he could have put in the background that tell a more powerful and dynamic story about Sakura's life choices.

At least we know she has a home.

Hinata may live in that graveyard for all we know...!

(Just had an awful realization — Naruto probably lives in the hyuuga compound. Ugh. This is all like a terrible fanfic made real.)

It has more to do with the fact that her hair is longer, she has longer fingernails, and is wearing lip gloss and make up om. In other words she's all dressed up, but is doing housework in the middle of a work day. It's hinted at very strongly that she is just a housewife. No other female active ninja has those "girlish" traits. Or so I was told. I haven't now nor will I ever read 699 or 700.

Of course, but the epilogue is supposed to show us where the characters are now, how they've progressed, if they've achieved their goals, the extent of their character development, etc. If Sakura is head medic, the epilogue should have indicated that somehow.

she isn't wearing any makeup....honestly, there is no shame in cleaning a house!

Ya'll need to knock it off.

Edit: and yes I agree that she should have been shown in a hospital, but I think it was fine showing her cleaning, it's just as bad as seeing minato wear pink apron and clean/cook yes? Does that make him less of a man? Of course not!

So this doesn't make Sakura less of a strong willed woman! (She just makes bad romantic choices...assuming that SS is canon anyway ....which I still don't buy)

Never said there was. It's a choice, and in real life something no one has any right to judge others for.

But this is fiction and there are directions set up that we expected to see leading somewhere. It just feels like the ending trashes her character development. She was a badass kunoichi and one of the very best medical ninja, and what she ended up getting just seems anti-climatic. It's not at all where her previous development had been leading us.

I suppose if one is satisfied with Sakura's portrayal in the last two chapters, that's fine. I'm simply not, and can't see myself ever being satisfied with it. To me it's only one of many problems I have with the ending.

i think people's disappointment is better directed at 699 rather than seeing her cleaning a house. wanting to ditch everything for sasuke is far worse than seeing her dusting. it doesn't really faze me tbh.

You misunderstand. I don't give a crap about seeing her clean--I clean my house, and I don't see it as a necessarily girly thing. Men clean house, too. It's simply a part of life.

I just wanted to something more out of her development is all. Even just mentioning about ending her shift at the hospital or something and adding that to the scene of her cleaning would have been better.

What I don't like about her portrayal in 699 and 700 is that, if we are to believe in the character development we were shown, is that her development became all about winning her childhood crush's love and having his child. (Again, based on what these chapters show.) To me, that completely regresses the development we've been shown for her, since her crush on Sasuke was only ever portrayed as childish fangirlism. (Unlike Naruto's crush on Sakura, which the manga does a good job portraying as turning into something more selfless and less childish over time.) Especially since we see her character become so much more than simply a fangirl by the end of part one.

The appeal of Sakura as a character is her overcoming her weakness and dependence on her teammates--and it just seems like the last two chapters discarded the character development that the previous chapters had been building up.
