So, anyone here who has read this manga? It has a very kittened up story and it's very depressive. I could say that it's psychological and somewhat weird. 

If you haven't read it, you can give it a try and tell me what you think:

The story goes from Punpun's childhood to... the rest of his life. You will never see "his face". Punpun Onodera and his family are represented by some kind of "birds" and depending of what kind of "Punpun" is, his "face" changes.

Yeah, same here. I'm open to everything. It just takes a while to read and see everything on your list.

For some reason this manga reminds me a bit of the movie Boyhood. I haven't seen it yet, but it basically is a movie that tells the story of a boy growing up from childhood to adulthood. It was recorded over a span of 10 to 12 yrs.

Man TG  is really good, the hype was justified ( at least for me), Im avoiding the TG thread right now because of spoilers, but once im finished catching up I will appear there

 

I'm reading punpun first chapter now, he (and his family ) looks like something that should appear out of a witch's labyrinth in PMMM

Its really a unusual manga, I'll keep reading

Yes, you are not finish it?
It's depress able work but the author is known for some "happy ending".
The protagonist is pretty much us. I could relate with him, minus the girl obsession and the dysfunctional family thing.

If you're weak at heart this is not the series for you. I remember reading this when the first chapter came out (so maybe 6-7 years ago) and I can honestly say that this story has been a trip. I'm actually a huge seinen/slice of life reader more so than shounen, but shounens are the only ones that have fandoms lol. But I've read almost every dark seinen out there and this one is one of the most depressing. 

 

But honestly the story is absolutely amazing. It's beautiful even, but when I read the ending I was torn for an entire week. It was so good, yet so traumatizing. I won't spoil, but if you're into dark stories then this is a must read.  

 

Also the art is amazing. 

 

Edit: Also, the author is a trans woman, and one of the best mangakas in recent history.

I've just read the first chapter.

Can I just say how amazing the art is? The human's grins achieve that necessary effect of creepiness- apart from Aiko (I think that's the new girl's name) of course.

One question: Is punpun going to remain speechless throughout the manga?

This manga is definitely unique, but I think I will try to finish it; however, I won't speed or rush through it but will tackle only a few chapters each day. I don't think I can swallow such a mature and complex manga in a few days, lol.

Yes, it really depressing manga, but the ending is pretty much "happy end" for this kind of manga.

Yeah :) Once she decided that she was officially trans, that's when it changed. If she decides to have reassignment surgery, that's on her. But as of now she is officially a woman. I love all of her work too, even though I don't completely understand it sometimes haha. 

 

I wish there were more mangas like Goodnight Punpun. Another really good one I Am a Hero. :)
