I don't think it helped, what if it wasn't the original laptop that had my iTunes and iPod? I have Windows Vista by the way, if anyone's curious

Just go to http://podtopc.com/
The software's freeware and it lets you transfer music and videos (There is a seperate program on the same site for photos.) back to your hard drive irrespective if its the original pc.
Take it from a guy that's owned an ipod for multiple generations of the device..... it works
One thing though...... Make sure you shut off the ipods automatic sync feature first if you want to transfer the files to a different pc. otherwise it will erase all your files when itunes pops up....
