Wow, they didn't screw over Kushina then; I am shocked that they didn't try and pull something like this since I feared they wouldn't even add her and just have a Hinata clone that would have died. But I am happy they do remember Kushina.

 

Yeah! I must admit being suprised to see Kushina in this one shot (wasn't expecting anything in fear of being disapointed) so seeing Kushina just feels even more precious   Also, while nothing is translated yet ( or at least, I didn't look further to see if people did try translate this lol) but it is quite nice to also have more of the Uzumaki background with Mito and young Kushina in a flashback.

 

As for an Hinata clone that would have died ( lol at this, sorry), while it would have been possible, I feel like this is something that SP would do, not really Kishimoto (unless he would have been forced somehow but since it has been long established that Hinata does sell well, doubt they would still try to push on Hinata)

 

I feel more convinced then ever that nh and ss was not what kishimoto wanted after that minato one shot spoilers

We had proof before (even if it wasn't all that clear for most of the time) but yeah, this one shot prouve even more that Kishimoto never wanted NH/SS.

 

So far, the only 2 panels I've seen that NH and SS try to compare with. One where kushina is behind a tree (kinda like younger Hinata stalking Naruto) and Minato acknoledge her presence ( probably say hello again, I have no translation on that lol). NH already jumped on this but while the pose for Kushina is somewhat copied, the meaning behind the scene is completely different. As for SS, there is a scene where Kushina hug Minato that on a bed (mostly in the hospital), kinda like the scene when Sakura hug Sasuke in the early manga. Again, it is somewhat copied but it doesn't feel the same as for one, Minato seem to smile at her hug and Kushina and him are most probably dating by now.

 

Again, from what I seen, there are still a lot more parallels toward NaruSaku. For example, there is one scene that show Kushina losing control over the kyubi, minato try to help but get attacked by a tail. This is similar to the scene when Naruto transformed into the 4 tails and Sakura get kicked out by one of the tails. There are other panels that show a clear parallels but this one I must admit surprised me as it is clear as crystal where Kishimoto got his insparation for this scene.

 

@Bail O' Lies : I can't tell how much Minakushi are in this  yet as I didn't see everything however from what I've seen, it is heavy on MinaKushi goodies.

Right. For some reason he is just comfortable writing Minato and Kushina.

Compare this one shot to how he wrote Sarada Gaiden (I think it was his worst performance as a writer) and the difference is astonishing.

Something just tells me Kishi's heart wasn't it during the 5 Kage Summit and the 4th Great Ninja War Arc. 

 

 

I also say that because I remember for Volume 53 there was a lot of heart and passion for the Kushina flashback and the handling of Naruto finally control of Kurama! 

 

 

and being able to write the story the way he wanted to for the one shot.... like you can see the passion and dedication he put into the material here.

 

 

 

It's also one of those things where I feel he's not handcuffed about what the story will be here!

 I wish, and if we're rewriting part 2... lets not pick and chose at which point in the series.

 

 

In my opinion start part 2 over all the way from the beginning... a blank slate that is set two-three years after the events of Naruto leaving the village.

 

 

 

 

One of my scrapped ideas for a Naruto write... actually involved Naruto returning to the village with Jiraiya  with complete amnesia so he wouldn't remember anything from his past.

 

 

 

The reason I scrapped it was because i didn't really get far past the concept, but it would be something that I'd be interesting in diving into again at some point in the future.

Naruto having amnesia at the beginning of part 2 wouldn't work, that would only work if you want a part 3 time skip to explain why naruto has not been around with whatever is going on say like a war

The idea I had was that something happened throughout during the time skip, and that hed build his connections with his friends and family.


It would also keep the idea of Sasuke out of his mind and Jiraiya warns him about the Akatsuki and he actually learns on how to deal with improving his skill set. In a way it would focus on his own life more than attempting to save Sasuke.


I know Sakura would definitely be more at the forefront with Naruto in the state of amnesia, and I had a sense that Naruto going 4 tails wouldve been triggered if Sakura got severely hurt in the heat of battle.


Obviously he'd still be an idiot, but I could picture this bringing a more compassionate side of his towards Sakura. Since sasuke wouldnt be the one holding him back.

He could say "you're really pretty and so thoughtful for trying to help me remember my past!" I can also remember Sakura being the one to remind Naruto of his dream of wanting to become Hokage, and if you want her to remind him of the promise he made to her about Sasuke again then you can.

But it can be done in a way where instead of it being about his friendship with Sasuke, hes doing to it more so for Sakura's sake then his own.

 

 

Even if it means pushing aside his own feelings to do so, and maybe in Naruto's 4 tails state when he does accidentally attack Sakura.... you can have him like stay away and sakura finds it odd that he's avoiding her. 

 

 

Then you can have Naruto saying that "It's not because of sasuke that i lost control.... you're the last person I've ever wanted to hurt Sakura.  How can I live with myself knowing that i hurt the one person whose always trying to be there, and has meant a lot to me."

 

 

Something along those lines!

I still don't see him having amnesia working for part the beginning to part 2 because you will have to take an amount of time to explain all that. Given how part 1 we see him leaving with jiriaya to train then returns in part 2 after he has trained, its going to be like what the heck he has amnesia now for the audience to the audience and it will look stupid.

The only way I can see an amnesia story working of something happened at the end of a battle in one part of the story and skip a few years later and the character has a new identity and has to remember his old one over time, like Tokyo Ghoul

From reading it, you can tell he was very happy with being able to write MK, call back to events from Naruto, and generally did what he wanted.

 

While in the Gaiden, he hated SS (and nH) and it felt that in the last few chapters the editors became in charge of where the story went; so he stop caring.

It probably gave him some confidence back and proved that he was always right that he shouldn't have done the last minute switch.

 

Lucky. That "amnesia at the start of part two" is a terrible idea. After a time skip you want to assure that readers they are still dealing with the same character but older. A radical change will cause disconnect like Anakin in Episode 2 or Naruto in the Last. You are trying to deal with the chase after Sasuke by either getting rid of it or putting it on the back burner. When the correct answer is always just to resolve it sooner.

That's one of the reasons why I didn't really move forward with the idea in the first place.

I had the same reaction, this one shot was high top quality!

 

This writing was not applied by the end of Naruto most probably because he was tired of it all and it did show and not just about the pairrings but everything in general. He had to constantly fight with people working for him that didn't have the same vision with his fight editor and him as well and that pretty much told him their biased views instead of thinking on what would really matter most for the story in general.

 

On that part, I can't really blame Kishimoto for giving up to what these people wanted even if it still regretful that he did gave up.

 

Now, he had long break of writing and drawing so he was really more up to his game, so to speak.

 

If the people pushing him so much would have gave him the time to let's say, grief about his father's passing, maybe he might would have giving us something a little more worth reading in the end.

 

Overall, I'm glad to see him back, even if it's much later then I would have liked and even if it's ''thanks'' to a popularity vote and not because he could have done it in the original story. I guess we will take what we can and hope that if he comes back writing, he'll continue to write as good as that.

I had the exact same thought about this while I was reading through the one shot too! 

 

Especially when you take into account that his father passed away near the tail end of when we were getting close to wrapping up the 4th great ninja war arc, and it's like you said.  You can just tell Kishi's heart wasn't in the right place while I was at this stage in the story which is really unfortunate. 

 

 

I too also have the same hope when it comes to Kishi writing and drawing for it to be as top tier as this turned out!
