So i just found out that someone stole one of my stories and posted it in another forum. Now as an author that really burns me up on the inside to kno that someone else is taking credit for my work. At first i really wasn't too upset about it but then once i went to the site and saw he had stolen it word for word, AND a few people gave reviews saying how much they liked it....well, that was it--i just flew off the handles at that point rawr.gif

Anyway, the purpose of this was partly to vent a little but also to get a little discussion going....

Has anyone ever had their work stolen? And whether or not it has happened to you, how do you feel about people who do that sort of stuff?

Dun worry, report abuse for that fic. Another guy, Vesvius B got the same thing happened and his reviewers absolutely flamed the other guy.

Tell it in your next chap or sth, and report it. We're here for you. XD

That kind of thing is idiotic and inexcusable. I hope you reported the moron to the forum admins?

It's not happened to me personally (since I, y'know, haven't put out anything worth stealing) but I've seen it several times over - and I just don't get it. We're not getting paid for this, so what... a fanfic thief wants to be an attention whore? Go post some e-drama on your LiveJournal instead.

So, yeah. Report the loser, especially if you have proof that you posted your stories somewhere else before the thief did.

Yeah, this happened a while back to me, about three weeks ago actually. I just confronted him about it. He apologized and was going to leave several sites, but decided not to, due to support from his site-friends. But was so unintelligent he linked it directly to my fanfiction.net version, where I just posted a page saying it wasn't 'him' (I knew his name) who wrote the fanfic. Bad luck though, I really hate people who take the sweat and hard work of others as their own accomplishments. Laziness and pathetic.

Well, first i confronted him about...sort of. I wrote a response to the story saying that i was the author and he stole it from me, and i told him to remove it. So if he removes it on his own i won't put any more thought into it. But if he doesn't, then i'll alert the admins

What a miserable little jerk. Fanfic stealing is wrong, but not even trying to make it look like you wrote it (as has happened to you, chaozu_tao, and to Desaix) is just laziness.

I have seen concepts stolen several times i also seen after i posted a story that there was a story that popped up with a very similar starting plot but it quickly went in a different direction. but if i ever read a story that was almost word for word the same i would confront the person.

I have also done a little bit of judo and kick boxing.

I also love reading. It is my favorite past time hobby next to all the others listed above. Due to the large amount of materials that I have read I have a lot of trouble writing my own fanfic since the ideas to make it different keeps coming to mind. I haven't submitted a single fanfic but I am writing an ongoing fic regarding Naruto which I hope to put online for others to read.

I also like watching anime and reading manga and have been a fan since day one. (except for the fillers part ... But I still watched each and everyone)

I have always liked Naruto and Sakura's pairing and I say make them a cannon couple --> this part is exclusively for Kishimoto-san.

Let's see, what else could I put down...um, I love reading, writing, and biking too. Comedy movies are the best...um yeah. Kind of a weak interests section, but whatever.

Ah, yes, I guess I should mention that my stories are also able to be viewed on fanfiction.net. You can find me under the name Denim88 on there too.

Yeah, I had this happen a few months ago with one of my stories. Actually, two of mine; the first one and it's sequel. I noticed that they did say it wasn't their work though, so I wasn't too upset about it. However, they didn't post any chapters for a long time, and haven't been on the site for awhile.

That really bugs me though when people who don't even do the work steal it and claim it as their own. I don't know how they find it an accomplisment on their part; I wonder if they even read the fic or reply to the readers' questions...I imagine not likely, since they don't know what will happen next with the story until it's posted... dry.gif

Gimme a break, 'kay?

I've had this happen to me before too. It is a very frustrating experience. My story "Caught" was stolen and posted on ff.net (despite it being against the TOS on ff.net since it was a very smutty story). I didn't see it though, it was gone before I could check the link someone emailed me. It was caught by fans right away so I never even saw it. He deleted it and then have the nerve to PM me and tell me that he posted it to figure out who the author was. His note was, of course, grammatically horrid and chocked full of spelling errors. It made me laugh. Who knows, maybe it is the same jerk who is still stealing stories.
