Why do Sakura and Hinata's stated feelings always get preference over Naruto's?

05 February 2023 - 01:28 AM

In a discussion in another thread here, the point was made that Hinata had stated her love for Naruto and Sakura had stated her love for Sasuke, so Kishimoto had no choice but to let Hinata get with Naruto and Sakura with Sasuke. The user who made this argument is entitled to his opinion, but I have seen this argument made so many times over the years, that I figured it warranted its own thread. Every single time people bring this up, they never appear to acknowledge Naruto's own stated feelings. What I'm not getting is why the feelings of a glorified side character and a so-called "Kiba level character( Kishimoto said it, not me) are given greater preference/respect than the feelings of the MAIN CHARACTER? For pete's sake, this is the TITLE CHARACTER we are talking about. This manga isn't called Hinata. This manga isn't called Sakura. This manga is called NARUTO. It would be one thing if Naruto's feelings for Sakura were strictly played for gags as we see with Asta liking Sister Lily in Black Clover, but that's not the case here. There are various occasions where Naruto's feelings for Sakura are not only taken seriously, but to further demonstrate his virtue, his nindo and his determination. I fail to see why Naruto's stated love for Sakura is simply treated like an afterthought by a lot of fans (and I'm not just talking about the people with pairing goggles on 24/7 or intellectually dishonest hacks at studio pierrot).
