And even if it goes in that direction, It would be an exponentially more tolerable and understandable situation than Naruto's obsessive need to "save" Sasuke for two reasons:
 

1) Asta and Yuno are actually best friends, not "rivals that are begrudgingly learning to accept and respect one another, making tentative steps towards a friendship".  Unlike Kishimoto, Tabata has never tried to force feed a contrived narrative because he demonstrated, rather than just told us, that the two of them were best friends through their frequent interactions and shared history together. Tabata never had to convince us of their bond because we could see it for ourselves.  However, If Naruto didn't explicitly state that Sasuke was his best friend, would we ever have assumed that they had that kind of relationship based upon their past behavior?  No, we wouldn't.  We would just label them as strictly rivals.

 

2) If Yuno turns against Asta, it's because he is either being brainwashed or possessed because we've seen that Yuno is a righteous and loyal individual.   Sasuke's decisions to betray his village, murder his "best friend"and former teammate, destroy the Kages, etc were of his own volition.  Frankly, it's easier to empathize with a situation when the hero is trying to save a loved one who's clearly operating against his will than a protagonist that is forcibly trying to "save" someone who voluntarily betrayed them, attempted to murder them on several occasions, plotted to destroy their home,  tried to kill their lover, then plotted to take over the world, without showing any hesitation or remorse on his end at any point in time.

So, it seems like this chapter is told from  William's POV. During Licht's wedding to his soon-to-be human wife, Tetia, all attendants have their magic sealed away and they'e summarily killed off by swords of light magic, which is Licht's specialty. As William was dying, someone cast a reincarnation spell which resurrected him in a human body that was curiously similar to Licht's elf body and with Licht's slumbering soul inside him as well. However, we don't know if Licht was the one who cast the spell or not.

William blames humans for the destruction of the elven race and swears revenge, hence them being the main antagonists.

 

Light magic being used suggests that Licht destroyed his own people at his own wedding. For what reason? Who knows. Given that Licht used Sword Magic at the time while his human friend possessed Light, it implies that this was a cooperative effort. William's monologue also references an unspecified tragedy in Licht's past. The fact that William got brought back in a human body with Licht's soul is odd - Licht certainly seems to be evil but we're not sure why exactly.

 

Then, we have the three-leaf Clover Grimoire.  William identifies it as Licht's, but the design of it is completely different, and Licht's grimoire isexplicitly depicted with a four-leaf clover.

Obviously, this is an unreliable narrator of events and is deliberately fragmented to keep us guessing.

No, the original Litch had sword magic (Asta's book that somehow became a five clover), The Light magic was the Guy that became Litch's Brother-in-law (who is likely the first Mage Emperor), wind magic was the girl Litch married (so some connection to Yuno), and that is not Litch that one of his friends in the background of this chapter. He just grab the magic emperor's book when he was revived. It is likely the reason Asta has no mana is that he is the reincarnation of the true Litch who use up all his magic with the reincarnation spell.

*slaps forehead* I keep forgetting about the original Licht.  I keep getting him confused with Patry.

 

Also, If Asta is the reincarnation of Licht, Tetia may be Noelle's. After all, she created that tornado because she couldn't control her mana(which Noelle is known for). Not to mention that the scene of Licht catching her after dissipating the tornado directly parallels the scene where Asta held Noelle in his arms after her Cradle of the Sea Dragon spell went out of control.

Im...shocked to see a different swing on what could have been Sasuke 2.0 but this has a valid reason. Im intrigued.

Noelle didnt get infected because heroine is treated right.

It's not the same scenario as Sasuke because it is due to factors outside of Yuno's control. He became possessed because he had an affinity for mana that an elf can reincarnate into. Sasuke's actions in all of *throws up* Naruto was all his own choices and rejected any alternatives simply because he wanted everything "his way". Someone mentioned this on mangahelpers. If Yuno REALLLY was supposed to be compared to Sasuke then I guess Klaus, Luck, and everyone else reincarnated into elves is "Sasuke" then.

 

But anyways the story just got WAY BETTER so anyone that is calling Black Clover a ripoff of Naruto, Bleach and Fairy tail should READ this chapter. Sure it may not be an original idea in terms of fictional story telling in general but you can't say it is carbon copying those series anymore, can you?
