I don't get why this stuff gets to you so much still, but I actually view it the exact same way. To me, the shonen aspects have no validity because Naruto's character ultimately failed without him even really putting up a fight or trying to be anything other than mediocre at best. So I don't really like the story or the world etc and I don't like talking about it. I pretty much only like this idea that Sakura really cared about Naruto and vice versa even though the manga ended up contradicting that
You have to understand that these people have to talk about it so that they can pretend like it's more than what it is. It has to be frustrating to get a pairing that I guess you wanted but then they get no moments whatsoever in canon material and for all intents and purposes aren't even together anymore.
Bold: Well, ignoring the fact that I spent a good ten years and hundreds of dollars on something that ended up being a garbage fest, it is mostly the fact that it feels like nobody actually writes good compelling stories anymore.
It is the same reason why Star Wars fans hate The Last Jedi and maybe even Force Awakens.
Or Ghostbusters fans of GB 2016
Or heck, even Pirates of the Carribbean fans who are going to be pissed if the rumor is true they are rebooting the franchise with an all female cast.
They took a great idea and they turned it on its head to suit something trivial. Whether that be a message of TW feminist propaganda or to push this fan fanatic idea of what can only be described as a fetish. And it keeps going. Instead of letting things be or making something new and interesting...they want to take those concepts and write horrible disgusting garbage plots, banking on the nostalgia factor, and then saying insulting that what they are doing is top tier writing.
"Rey is not a Mary Su."
"You hate the idea of women being Ghostbusters."
"You just didn't read/watched it properly"
Over and over again. Is that what this day and age is all about now? Politics and pandering? Seems to be that. Instead of challenging ideas, they rather try to make everyone happy by giving them exactly what they want...only to realize too late that if you try to please everyone...you end up pleasing no one. Worse still the reality is.....that even if people tell them exactly what they did wrong...why something didn't work...and explained to them in every sort of detail why what they are doing is just not working. THEY CONTINUE TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES AND THEN BLAME YOU SAYING YOU DIDN'T DO SOMETHING CORRECTLY.
Is that how you want all your stories to turn out?
Imagine Romeo and Juliet where in the end, after she pretends to die, Romeo just gets up and goes "Oh yeah, I was in love with Rosaline this whole time. Good thing Juliet is dead otherwise I never would have learned."
Why did NS get to the NH and SS fans so much? Why did people not liking Ghostbusters get to Kevin Fieg and Meghan MaCarthy so much? Why are so many people getting offended, upset, angry, and crying for blood because I say that Rey from Star Wars is a Mary Su? From what I am seeing. what is bothering me seems pretty tame. Heck, some people in this forum, you know who you are, are upset because some other people think Star Wars The Last Jedi was horrible. Ask them, why does it bother them so much?
The main reasons why for me, why it all bothers me, is because when people do stuff like this...they are trying to insult your intelligence and instead of society being like "Yeah, maybe they went a little overboard with it" they pat the other people on the head and call people like me, people who actually think, stupid and juvenile.
I fear the worse because it is starting to bleed into the things I like....like One-Punch Man which I am hoping One is NOT stupid enough to listen to these pairing fans and actually listen to the real fans who just want to read a story that makes sense. That the story never treats you like you are stupid.
What's worse? Me complaining about the decline of quality in writing practices and the process of cognitive story telling....or these other people who lose their humanity and have an existential crisis because their pairing choice in a manga is not what they expected it to be and accuse others of what they do themselves?
Second bold: It is not a matter of what I understand because I wholeheartedly get what they are doing or what they want to do, but do they understand what they are doing? Could they possibly understand that what they are doing is...just...wrong. It is wrong on so many levels and they live in this darkness that makes them make excuses. Especially when it is starting to affect how we as human beings are supposed to be. We call ourselves the superior species for our intelligence, but it looks to me it is more like we are the only species that revels in self-gratification. When we no longer accept that, we want to force others to gives us gratifications even for the most worthless and mediocre projects.
Saying "It is only a shounen" does not cut it anymore.
Is Shakespeare's plays only just stage plays?
Is Edgar Allen Poe only just a poet?
Is Stephen King only just a novelist?
Keep going and until you get to the point of "What is the point of anything then? Who cares about anyone or anything. Just do whatever makes you have fun. Nothing matters so why should you care?"
Well, I care. I care a lot, damn it. Someone has to hold on to common sense. Might as well be me.
Tornado loves Saitama? When was that ever shown?! I think she has interacted with him twice over the course of both that manga and the web comic. At first it was complete contempt over this lesser B class hero was showing up to this meeting, and then Christ Almighty Who The Hell Is This Guy!?! There has never been a you're so hot I want to have sex with you so bad. Saitama, I think see her as a little brat; maybe a bit scared of her due to what she did to Genos? But that is it.
At least with Blizzard they interact often enough to have interactions often enough that the audience does see growth between them. At first she see him as a random newbie rising high too fast that needs to be crushed, but quickly realized he is impossibly strong. So now she really wants him to become her subordinate, and even treats (or pretends to) him like one due to her inferiority complex with her sister; if she had a subordinate this strong then she must also be strong. Eventually because she hangs around him so often that she grows to understand him as a man; a man that would trick her into paying for his meal. Which lead her to become what Saitama sees her as a friend like genos that won't leave his house. You also have that speech he gave her when they first met, and how they will eventually effect her. And so on.
This is hard to explain, but apparently abuse means love to these people....until that abuse comes from a rival pairing...then it actually is abuse. I don't know. It is third dimensional Stockholm Syndrome.
Saitama merely sees Tornado as a child. He even ignores her. Apparently, this means he loves her. Like how Sasuke ignores Sakura. "What's with this silly lost child?"
Bold: Oh don't even bring that one up. You know how many GenosXSatiama fans are out here in America? They think it is just tops. Even when Saitama says he is not into dudes, they still vote for this. I even challenged this notion in a group of girls who, on random chat, talked about how they are sick of people trying to turn gay characters straight in manga, but then turn around and take a straight character and turn them gay.
This is more than just double standards...this is insanity.
Fubuki...seems more than that. She sees the respect and power Saitama holds from even top S class heroes and even has these moments where she says "Maybe I can join him..." Now it is not a romantic inclination nor will I claim anything from it, but if ONE wanted to start a pairing with SaitamaXFubuki, it would not be a bad foundation. I don't want pairings in One-Punch Man though. I've had enough OTPing in my life and not going to continue it. I just read the story how it is. All I am saying is if I had to choose a pairing that would have good chemistry, it would be Saitama and Fubuki. There is something about them that just seems to click.
I had a whole discussion of this with Serenity a while back. It is the one reason why Fubuki is what I consider a strong female character. It is not whether she has flaws, but rather what is she is willing to do to overcome them.
Now that I got that out of my system I'd like to ask, How? HOW???????? Do they care enough to explain, or are they running their mouths like brainless airheads?
To me, it is kind of them finding pairings like to their ideal SS relationship. The cool lonely guy who hides secret pain meeting a strong, but loving female who wants to change him. I don't know. Even in the web comics, there is nothing to support the idea. It is just what I hear.
It just baffles me how Naruto has influenced so many fans into brainwashing a pairing choice into their head. Are we sure the Infinite Tsukuyomi wasn't placed on us?
We have to accept that there are many fans in the anime community that only care about pairings...and nothing more.
